    I remember buying this monitor a week or 2 after this review went live. It has been a rock solid monitor and really one of the best I could ask for. No major delay, easy viewing and fits in my backpack nicely. My only complaint has been the over NITS while shooting. at times it does suck having a dimmer screen but overall a fantastic entry monitor. I will be upgrading to the LUT7 from Feelworld soon since I feel after 2 years it has served its purpose greatly.

    Hey!
    I just tried the F6 plus on my Canon M50 Mark II but I don’t have access to the camera settings on the F6 Plus monitor (such as dual pixal autofocus, ISO, f/ etc … all the Q menu basically)
    Fonctions I usually can access with the touch screen on my M50 Mark II.
    Is there something I can do?
    Or is there a way to have both screens in power so I can access them both, since when I'm powering the F6Plus my camera's screen turns black.
    Thanks !

    I only need to us this for photography stills so I need the ability to match the image on the back of my Canon EOS R. How does it perform in that area? Is it the same brightness as the LCD on the back of the camera?

    • @ScottDumas
      @ScottDumas  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I had good enough experience with it myself, but you can tweak the colors and contrast if you need to match it. I honestly can't say for sure how the brightness compares the the EOS-R LCD because I never paid too much attention to it (I don't remember what the brightness settings on my LCD actually are at the moment either). I want to say it's a little bit brighter but I'm really not sure.

    • @ScottDumas

      If the color looks different it could be for a couple reasons. If you're recording in LOG and the camera doesn't output the preview LUT, that could be why... but most likely the monitor just needs to be calibrated and you can adjust the RGB, contrast saturation etc in the menu to match what you see on your camera.

    • @ScottDumas

      If the card is formatted correctly it may be an issue with too large of a card size. I'm not sure about this one but sometimes things like firmware updates and simple things like adding luts actually can only work with smaller than 32gb cards, for example. Another guess could be if the file names are too long or contain any strange characters ...that didn't give me any issues but it could be worth trying to change if you don't find any other solution like a smaller sized properly formatted card.

    The current marketing is saying there IS waveform. Have you found this in new firmware etc? Also...500 nits is low...is this an issue for you with all the 2000 nit monitors coming out?

      Yeah the waveforms were just added very very recently. I haven't updated my firmware yet because I need to get access to a PC to correctly format my SD card haha. 500 nit is totally fine indoors of course so I only find it to be a limitation when filming in more challenging outdoor situations. The upside is that you get much better battery life than the 2000 nit monitors :) Also noticed the long press option after this video... will have to make an update once I get that firmware to show the waveforms and touch to customize options :)

    so applying the luts in the monitor shows you what you can do after uploading it to the pc?I hate filming with my D750 and the flat log is not good to play with in hitfilm express even with some luts I downloaded!

    • @ScottDumas
      @ScottDumas  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Having the lut in the monitor lets you preview how the footage will look. You can load whichever lut you typically use in post- makes it easier to judge things like exposure by eye sometimes and just have a better idea of what it will finally look like. It's good for other people watching too since they might not know about LOG footage, and it will also help with focus assist features like peaking since that's contrast based.

    • @Zenavesta
      @Zenavesta 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Also Been, remember that you are getting highly compressed files from the D750. The work that you want to be doing in post is going to be very (very) minima. I used to shoot the D750 for video (still use it for my portraiture work) before upgrading to the bmmcc and p4k, a hack I used to use was shooting CineFlat + a polariser (to add back some colour and contrast) exposing to the right ofc. Then is post, just massing with the exposure, saturation and some split toning, which is a perfect workflow for Nikons imo. Try it out and see if it works for you, maybe tweak it a bit to your liking. I think Nikon footage doesn't hold up well when placed under heavy post work, remember that's not what they are designed for. Photography first, film second. We have to play to its weaknesses not try to make it its strength

    I was set on the PortKeys BM5 for my Sony a6500 but it's confusing on what camera controls are compatible for Sony.
    With that said, do you think twice as much cost is worth it over this one? I guess the biggest drawback with this is the low number of nits....500 is very low.

    • @ScottDumas
      @ScottDumas  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      The portkeys overall does feel a bit more professional with things like waveforms and vectorscopes, plus an incredibly durable build quality. Super bright is nice too and SDI in/out can be very helpful for certain users and situations. Basically though, the BM5 is my favorite monitor but if you don't need all that, it's not worth the price for just the brightness alone.

      No worries! And not at all :) Again- your camera should be able to output a lower frame rate/resolution even while you're recording 4k/60 in camera. It's not a recorder so it doesn't make much of a difference if your HDMI output is not 60fps :) Almost all non-recorder monitors are the same anyway (only accepting up to 4k/30). Thanks for this review. It's great to see FeelWorld giving us this type of monitor at such a great price.
    I'm a little confused about the built-in LUTs. If the camera is recording in log, do the LUTs convert it to REC709 or REC2020? What do the SLog, LogC, etc LUTs do if the camera is already recording in log?
    Is the PortKeys M5 still your go-to monitor?

    • @ScottDumas
      @ScottDumas  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thanks so much for watching :) The monitor is Rec709 and what effect the LUT has will depend on what you load in there... SLog, LogC and other luts already built in are "standard" luts for that type of log footage. So, if you're filming in SLog, for example, you could use to SLog lut to preview what the footage would look like when using that or a similar lut applied in post.
      The BM5 is still probably my go to monitor, at least for the E2. It's super solid, fully loaded and very bright. About double this price though. I do love my 7" HCM-700 from OSEE as well though. Another incredibly solid monitor with absolutely everything thrown in there, dual battery slots and a pretty bright display.
      Something like this is great for the EOS-R, for example, since it mounts so conveniently on the hot shoe. I'm actually planning on using it on my EOS-R that I have recording these videos. There are lots of good monitors out there each with their own appeal for different situations, but this is just very quick and easy to use, which I appreciate.
