    Some people would say that being a foster parent is hard but in reality I'm sure it is a difficult job (and this is coming from a foster child) but you have an amazing system in place and you give everyone exactly what is good for them whilst keeping some time for yourself so thank you for all the work you do to help these young people (sorry if my comment didnt make much sense lol)

    Wow. Our dynamics are much different. I'm a full time engineer working remotely from home. Wife is full time mom. We homeschool our 2 bio sons. And we currently have 3 foster girls under 5. All sisters. About 10 days into being foster parents and I've spent most of my time in PCP office visits, 1 urgent care visit, and one ER visit. My mom wanted to give me away to the foster care and anything to do to get rid of me, cause I refuse to go to school in the morning, hide in the bathroom during school time, I been going to psychologists during school hours where I get picked up from school and I had small amount of medication for adhd, I failed 4th grade cause it was hard for me then I was homeschooled in 5th grade but then my mom she wanted to withdrawn me from homeschool because she wanted me to graduate without cheating in homeschool assignments and tests and she doesn’t care that students and teachers bully me and avoid me cause I am quiet and shy and have autism and avoid crowds and sitting alone in the classroom feeling scared of people and can’t make eye contact cause I just can’t cause of severe anxiety disorder that makes me refrain from socializing. What she told me was ‘If you hated me, then why didn’t you tell me from the beginning. I didn’t hate her I just hated school and want to drop out soon as possible and find other careers that doesn’t include with high school diploma or college diploma cause I know I will fail school and college cause I am scared of getting bullied cause I don’t have friends and mostly at home and have a boring life.

    • @gravitalis
      @gravitalis ปีที่แล้ว

      Yikes. Sounds like you're giving him a really hard time. There's nothing wrong with a kid staying up til 11pm.... kids shouldn't "go to bed" if they're not sleepy or tired. My parents never gave me a bedtime. They put me in extracurricular activities (gymnastics/tennis) which are pretty physically demanding, so I'd pretty much crash when I got home. Maybe take that approach instead, get him into soccer or track or ceramics, or some other activity he could do 3 times a week after school.

      Those are usually anxiety based. If you teach other coping behaviors and relieve the anxiety, they usually stop, unless they're more of an OCD thing instead of an anxiety one. Then I got no idea

      @@AlternateJelly one thing that has helped some people is fidgets, especially ones like stretchy squish balls where you can pull the little hair/tentacle things and fidget cubes, infinity cubes, and monkey noodles . I also personally find that I like my nails short for sensory reasons, so personally I keep my nails trimmed short enough that I don't have the desire to bite them. Nail polish might also help, if you like having fun polish on your nails (especially something like decals that I can't easily do again made me want to keep them in tact as long as possible). Another option is something you can have in your mouth instead, be it gum, skittles, etc.
      I only ever bit my nails, so I'm not sure how helpful any of these are, but these are things I've used over the years.

    Absolutely don't let a pigeon drive the bus, that would be almost as silly as giving a moose a muffin.

    A random thought… how does the system work when there’s a child with serious/intensive health requirements?

      Different foster homes have different levels of training so kids with health requirements are ideally placed with the person with the best training for the additional care they need.
