Great video, great car. I’ve had 2 Mini Cooper S’s and nothing beats the fun they provide on B roads. I also liked the tech, the BMW build quality and finish. Despite being 6’2” it was comfortable with the lounge leather seats and the sunroof did not detract from the headroom. When I retired and could no longer justify running two cars the Mini just became too impractical for all my needs. Settled on a BMW i3s which gives me 80% of the fun.
Stumbled across this video and loved it. Great technical review, great driving and those views - that sky!! Will take this road when next up in Cumbria in my Mini One
Love my Mini Cooper S Clubman but I also have a Mini Cooper S Sidewalk with a JCW tuning kit fitted and that is a blast. Both cars just make me smile when I am dribving them. Can't ask more than that !
Subscribed, never watched a Reg video before, great to see a decent review by a proper driver. JCW will be replacing my S convertible this year, interesting and informative commentary.Rather different from a typical journalist review.
What a lovely review! Mine’s coming this week (JCW convert), so that was a great drive, lovely roads, with just enough documentary input. Thanks for the buggy ride.
Great video. One thing about the driving modes is that I’m sure it changes the steering responsiveness. (Well it feels like it does in my wife’s Cooper). Great videos and recently found your channel. Have been thinking of doing my IAM for a while after 34 years driving and you have recently made me want to do that more. Thanks
Really enjoyed this one. Excellent roads, great car and a nice down to earth review. Looking forward to the advanced driving videos featuring this car.
I remember one of my early cars was a MG Montego Turbo and I loved it!! But torque steer was awful, on the correct camber of road you could overtake just using torque steer alone with no steering input at all, accelerate hard and it would go to the offside then let off the gas a bit once past and it would move back in!!! Possibly the bushes were a bit knackered too but it was great fun at the time 😂😂😂
Needs the exhaust sorting out hard i know on a rental car and newer legistations forced BMW to alter the exhaust over the likes of my 2015 Cooper S and the JCW'S Pro exhaust option was discontinued sad to say, great review and some nice roads and views over Shap,
I have the 2019 version white/silver with a red topping loaded with all the toys and yes it is a great car and so much fun, on the 2021 models with even more piano black added I don't think it was a good move, seems to be trim changes for changes sake. What I would like to see is an increase in power to say about 260/270 bhp to compete with the competitors hot hatches.
As someone who isn't normally a fan of Minis, this is one I can more than get along with. I must say that this is one of better optioned one's I've seen, the JCW is the right choice because I've heard that the GP models ride very harshly.
Great video Reg! Just ordered mine... can't wait for it. Exhaust sound, any pops and bangs? I heard that you won't get any till about 2,000/3,000 miles?
Love the vid, however surely rule 1 of reviewing a car would be to learn what it's properly pronounced lol. "...a John Mini Cooper Works Cooper S Mini Cooper Works" lmao
Hey I know you don't really like non-performance cars but can you please do a video about CVT and e-CVT transmissions and driving with hybrid vehicles?
I’m quite surprised what with you being an IAM examiner, ex cop etc that you drive over the speed limits. It shows you doing 66 in a national and then for the rest of the video it’s blurred out. Would you pass an associate for doing 6 mph over the limit?
@@leeandjancruise ha ha, I do enjoy it. But when someone examines advanced drivers and would fail them for doing what he did. Also why has reg not commented.
These things are built for small women, not only is the interior all shiny and shite quality the racings seats are made to accommodate no more than 9 stone I nearly burst the seats and I'm only 14 stone

Just ordered mine 1 week ago, with manual gearbox.... just can't wait to drive it!
My good lady has just picked up the JCW clubman. Though she hasn’t let me near it much, when I have sneaked off with it, it is absolutely fantastic.
Stumbled across this video and loved it. Great technical review, great driving and those views - that sky!!

Nice bit of blurring action going on there Reg 😉😂
Loved the video! I love minis, have a 2014 cooper and won't drive anything else! I understand that smile very well 🙂

Great video buddy, the only decent one I have found. I have a JCW arriving in 4 weeks so will follow in your footsteps. Keep up the great work 👍🏻
Got given a Cooper S courtesy car, 2 months later I have ordered the new JCW, never saw myself in a mini, but they kick ass!
22:22 is the perfect example of how well modern cars can slow from high speed while mid corner. No problem!
Absolutely! A prime example of how, even from a relatively high speed, you can stop in the distance you can see to be clear.
What a lovely review! Mine’s coming this week (JCW convert), so that was a great drive, lovely roads, with just enough documentary input. Thanks for the buggy ride.
I think you were missing the manual gear box, Reg! Nice car - congratulations! And as usual - thanks for the brilliant drive and beautiful roads!
He was driving a manual.
Thoroughly enjoyed that. Just ordered one today, same colour but with red roof, bit of a wait, early 23 but am ok with that

Thank you for the brilliant drive, very much enjoyed it!
Sounds like it has quite a lot of rev hang. Is that more helpful than it might be irritating?
It annoys me TBH as far as daily driving
Loved the cool twisty roads, the manual transmission and the sounds of those exhaust pipes.
Lucky to live in Kendal so drive these roads quite a lot :) Great to see you driving them and the lines you take

I was missing these old school Reg's videos, they're really enjoyable to watch. When are you coming up with a video on trail braking on the car?

Great video many thanks. Sure Mrs Local will be pleased with your dedicated efforts to run in her new car. Look forward to the upcoming series.
A few years ago I test drove a Cooper S, but with a JCW Kit on it; was impressed with it - regretted not buying it.
That noise he makes between every sentence with his tongue is bloody annoying
First time seen one of your vlogs. Excellent review! Have just subscribed 👍
Power to weight is frequently overlooked as a good guide to performance.
Good to see my test route :)

Just add an air intake
How is the standard audio system? I see you opted out for Harmon Kardon

It's a little bit more than a bobby basic model. The GP is a two seater and basically a fast road and track car.
@@leeandjancruise Yeah, basically my point. Too extreme for the roads in the UK.
Great video Reg! Just ordered mine... can't wait for it. Exhaust sound, any pops and bangs? I heard that you won't get any till about 2,000/3,000 miles?
If the engine wasn’t run in already, it is now 😀
Can you shot a video of the sound from outside?
I think the GoPro might have a faulty pixel or two - image was blurry just above the steering wheel....
Thanks. I'll take a look...
nice vid but btw why did you blur the speedo :)))
Nice drive Gov
Won't the smaller wheels reduce rather than improve the handling?
No
name of this color please ?
Very capable car from the outside it looks a bit chunky and lazy city wagon style but from the driver's seat it is a different story

Do not look at the speedo readings! Better judge whether it is safe or not. If safe - it is ok.
@@vladimirl8753 it’s really not ok if it’s illegal.

Moonwalk Grey! Not Moonstone
JCW never had fogs! The S does!
Each facelift is uglier than the last. Shame the front looks like can unhappy fish. Not quite as manic as I thought it would be.
