The Garmin Approach R10 portable golf launch monitor uses radar to analyze several metrics like your club path, launch angle, ball speed, and estimated distances and direction. It does not use GPS, but based on its placement to the ground, it will be able to provide shot data without GPS data or elevation information. The accuracy for the radar metrics are outlined below.

Great content, love watching the reviews. I have recently obtained an R10 and am really getting into the E6 Connect practice and courses. I had several questions about the regular E6 license as opposed to the limited one that comes with the R10:
1. I like to "fly-through" the holes before playing a course to get familiar with the layout. With the limited license the only way I can see to do this is to "pick-up" on each hole and advance through the 18 holes. The problem with that is that it logs this as a round ( I think a 12 on each hole!) on the e6 portal even though thankfully it will not register on the handicap calculation. Can you do this more effectively on the normal license? My portal page is now littered with all of these useless "fly-through" rounds. It would be nice if E6 could allow non-handicap rounds to be deleted.
2. On the normal license can you log the shots taken while playing a course so you can review your shots?
I'm definitely think of doing the normal license because E6 is a lot of fun and I can tell it is helping my game. It is so much better to actually play a virtual course that just robotically firing shots down the practice range!

Great video, I noticed that e6 auto selected a club on most shots and you had multiple shots where you clubbed down from the e6 club, e.g. on driving range you were 1 club down from the auto selected and 2nd hole you thought you were hitting PW but it had 9I selected, could that explain the distance difference?

Does the distances have anything to do with selecting the club? I noticed on the 186 par 3 it had you using a 4 iron and you flew it probably what you would have hit your 4 iron. So I am just wondering if you have to select the proper club every time where they do not measure spin?

This is genuinely a perfect example for me. I just want something decently accurate to use as a simulator. For that price and that accuracy, I am sold. Not planning to use it as a training tool, but think it would be iffy in that regard.

Love the content you put out! I do have a question with the Garman r10. Living in Colorado the elevation change makes a big difference in club distances. Is elevation a customizable setting with the r10?
You can set the elevation inside of the e6 software I am showing here. I'm not sure the Garman GPS course software has that ability. This iOS Version I am showing in this video is included with the unit.

Hi, enjoy your videos! After using the R10 on both the original Garmin Driving Range, and now the E6 Range, do you find the E6 algorithm for simulating ball flight more accurate?
I see similar data other than e6 might have some boosted distances most likely due to low spin numbers.

It should not make any difference as it is taking the data points from R10 so the club selection is not impacting the data.
How are you projecting the picture? Are you casting it or running from an HDMI?
What size screen do you recommend?
Any issues with draining the iPad/iPhone battery with E6? (Or hometee hero). Also how did you project it? Mirror screen or lightning to hdmi cable?

Noticed those extra 10 yards you were getting was because it autoselected clubs but you were using a different one. ie, on the range you were hitting 9i but it had 8i selected, and in that second hole you were hitting pw but it had 9i selected which is why it overshot.
Aaron, club selection does not matter. R10 is reading the ball. If club selection mattered then it would be a full calculation and not using ball data.
There are a few shots where the screen is showing a different iron selected that what you say....did I miss something as to why? Thank you for the insight tho, really liking your reviews!
That is just e6 autocaddie. The club selection makes no difference for the R10 in E6, if you select the club in E6 it will track your stats online so that would be one thing if you want to do that. I honestly never change the club on any launch monitor unless putting off the fringe, and R10 does not do putting.

On your pitching wedge shot that went long you had 9i selected on e6 ... if you don't change those clubs in e6 it will read longer regardless of the SIM you're using
Not true, e6 uses the ball data from the launch monitor to come up with the Carry algorithm.

Great video! In regard to some of your complaints of the distances not seeming accurate, in most cases the club E6 suggested in the lower left was different then what you were striking. At our local golf sim who uses e6 told us that if we use a different club then what's listed to make sure you change it as it will effect the accuracy.
If it's trugolf then it can because it's not getting all the data and heavily relies on the algorithm. This is 100% the launch monitor carry data that is not right. Nothing to do with club selection. If you have it on 4 iron or 9 iron it doesn't matter as the carry data is coming from R10.

That is within their recommended distance that say 6-8ft unit to ball and 8ft ball to net/screen. You should be fine.

I am looking into getting a simulation setup in my garage, of course was comparing this launch monitor with Skytrak. What does the setup look like to connect the ipad pro to your projector? Is it as simple as some sort of long HDMI cord?
I was also under the impression that the R10 would not cover the full screen of a projection screen...but it appears that is not the case from this video, which is a plus!

Can you comment on how well it measures poor shots? You hit pretty good shots each time in this video and I'm wondering if the unit is forgiving, or if it's accurate on poor shots. I mean like a slice or hook, chunk or bladed ball.
yes it measures all of those very well.

I have just over 10ft ball to screen. My screen is 8' tall and 12' wide. 16:10 format. I use the Apple hdmi dongle to go hdmi to projector.

Hi Miles, I talk about this in the video. The iOS version is set for graphics, you are using the same software as everyone and no matter the devices the images are going to look the same other than resolution of the screen and/or smoothness of the movement. The PC version has higher level of graphics, very noticeable. I actually have a comparison video in the channel.

How many players can play a course at the same time on this version of E6? And does that number change for the paid subscription? I’m looking for iOS software that can have up to 8 players at a time, not sure if there’s anything out there that ticks this box though. Thanks.
Just got mine and ran E6... I'm finding that anything from the toe area absolutely crushes my launch that it reads. Hit a somewhat toey 5i and it said it launched 9* and went 150 yards...I know that shot goes much further IRL. Could it be a set up issue?
Is there any way they can really get a somewhat accurate side spin number for the Garmin if they either don’t measure spin or measure the location of the hit on the club face. Assuming the same club path and face angle, a toe hit is going to produce completely different spin to a heal hit. The Garmin will be ok for center hits and I’m assuming the algorithm can only assume a center hit. Shot tracking is going to be way off the closer one get to the edge of the clubface due to gearing.
Not sure yet. It's all about the calculations they are doing. Right now there seems to be some opposite spin misses. If they can at least Eliminate those I think it will be an ok margin of error for $599
Does E6 work with Andriod devices?
Would love to see a similar test for Home Tee Hero. In my garage setup I feel E6 reads very believably for most shots with the occasional short/long reading. Home tee hero seems to be reading everything a good bit short with the occasional shot that I feel is accurate.
That is my plan, just doing one at a time rather than a marathon video :) Viewers seem to like that better and a little easier for me :) Yeah E6 for sure has some alg boost which could be some lower spin or just the alg in general from what I have experience with other monitors. As long as you’re logged in when playing, you can go to your E6 online portal using a web browser

Apple usb-c/lighting to hdmi dongle. Apple sells it in their store. Works great. Just run hdmi to a projector and even allows sound thru the projector if it has a Speaker. Thanks for watching

Unfortunately the Michigan weather took a hard turn and I have not been able to test this unit outdoor yet so I just can't speak on that yet.

Looking at this and the Rhapsodo LM. The Rap is more accurate (within 1%), but the Garmin has the simulator which is what I am looking for. How do you hook it up to the projector or get it to show on a big screen that?
I haven't confirmed that 1% and I think that is claim is based on outdoor. Rapsodo does not provide spin axis it's a big difference between the two.
I just snagged the R10 myself and absolutely love it. The pro bono e6 courses that come with it are great but I wish there was a way we could buy individual courses for my iPad/r10. $300 or $600 annually is unreasonable and unaffordable. I would love to buy a single course on its own or even if there was a monthly fee option would make it so much better. Does anybody know if you can share an e6 account to keep costs down? For example split the $600 annual subscription with a couple buddies to keep the price down?
You can contact them and they do have a few premium courses for individual sale like Pebble Beach and Oakmont etc.

No it does not. E6 receives the data from the Garmin and that data is directly inserted into the E6 algorithm for the shot ignoring club selection. The only case club selection really matters if you are using a device that has putting and you want to putt off a fringe so it reads correctly. It also matters if you want to track the data for each club in the cloud. I do not really pay attention to that club selection in E6. Thanks for watching!

Could a metal dot help with the side spin accuracy?
It shouldn't as I mentioned in the video. They are not reading spin they are calculating from other data so dot shouldn't do anything and hence why they don't recommend it.

Regarding R10 spin pick up...
It has been said that NOW the garmin does pick up spin .....
and when it does he read out is NOT in italics. When in italics, it is a algo calculation. When in regular font, it has actually caught the spin. Have you heard this?
Correct, but see my latest videos covering this with RCT balls. It is “reading” spin but they have not said if it is actually measured or not. But do understand it does not read or measure spin axis.
Thanks for the video. I'm a bit confused with how club selection works here with regards to the club selected in the software and the club that is hit. I.e. 3rd shot on hole one a sand wedge was selected in E6 and you hit your 58. Does the game know you're hitting a 58? Would the ball have gone the same distance in the game if you have hit your 7 iron? This might be a question that's applicable to all golf sim software, not just R10/E6. Sorry if this is a newbie question and I'm not understanding something obvious.
Club Selection makes no difference. The ball data is getting sent to the software and the club selection plays no impact. Thanks for watching

They will transfer the license for a small fee. I’m not sure exactly what it is but I’m sure you can call and ask.

Well technically you get a subscription license but there are a few different types of license only and subscription. There is iOS and PC that can come in permanent licenses or yearly subscription. The major difference is the need for subscription for online play.
Do you have ipad hard wired to projector or just air play or screen mirroring.
I run a hdmi dongle direct hdmi cable to projector.
How is the video being sent to the screen? What kind of screen is it? Is the screen the same thing the ball is hitting?
In this video I am using my iPad Pro 11" with the Apple USB-C to HDMI dongle that then runs HDMI cable to my projector. This is a screen build from years ago not available for retail sale, but yes the ball directly hits the screen. It is a 3 layer fabric with memory foam behind it.
With the distance seeming a bit long on most clubs, wondering if it can be adjusted within e6 Connect? I run e6 with Tittle X right now and am looking at upgrading. When I use e6 there is a Boost of -10% to +10% in the software. Is this a setting that is universal within e6 or does it not exist when using R10? Seems like a quick fix.
That boost is only available for the E6/TruGolf systems not the launch monitors that connect to E6 like R10, Mevo+, SkyTrak etc. They use boost because it's an odd microphone system that has to be calibrated and adjusted. These distances are based on the Launch Monitors data being sent to E6. When I got R10 it included the base iOS which has 5 free courses. My unit came with a license to activate it. You are saying yours did not? Keep in mind this is iOS only.

I am a little lost with the connection setup.
I currently have my R10 thru the iphone and the image is on a flat screen tv, via HDMI. Must I use a PC or laptop with E6? GSPRo? Or is an internet connection from an iphone all that is required? Thnks
E6 has an iOS version for iPhone actually. Then you can use PC as well connecting with your phone still then to PC using network connections

R10 it's going to be your best choice under 1000.

What's the best way to run any of these simulator software for a non-iPad owner? Will the E6 or any of the other run on an Android Phone or Tablet? If not what's a minimum price PC that will work go for?
PC is the best alternative and is better graphics than iOS too. You need a GTX 1070 or above. Try for a 2070 or above if you can.
Are the free 5 courses available on PC, I thought these were limited to ios

Your numbers so far off could be to do with your app thinks you’re hitting a 8i when you’re hitting a 9i cause you never selected the correct club. More user error that unit error
Club selection doesn’t matter as it is reading the ball.
Do you think R10 + E6 is more accurate than R10 + Garmin App Modes?
Not from what I have seen so far. E6 tends to actually have some boosted Carry and same spin axis concerns on some shots.

i have tried 2 Pc's but the R10 will not connect - how did you get yours to work? I tried via bluetooth (won't connect) and via ip address also didnt work. E6 can see the R10 but not connect. the PC can see the R10 bluetooth but cannot connect either. thanks
I'm actually using an iPad here. I think you need the right port number put in the setting.
@@GolfSimulatorVideos thanks for getting back to me. after some frustration figured it out - PC and garmin app on phone need to be on the same wifi... this part is important. also i should note: had to try to get the r10 bluetooth to connect to the PC first - this took about 50 tries
