    The problem with LH crews is the inconsistency: Depending on the purser in charge, they will go out of their ways to provide a great experience for passengers, while other pursers kinda tell them to provide only the bare minimum.
    Usually, however, LH crews are always trying their best to make the most out of what their company lets them.

      I can only say that Lufthansa was a BLISS some years ago, in economy, after having the other star alliance members on my legs being incredibly disappointing.
      Specifically: I went from Hannover via Frankfurt to Osla, then Trondheim. On the way there, my Lufthansa flight was 15min delayed, causing me to miss my connecting flight and spending 8 hours in Oslo, falling sick to a bad cold due to ~Airport Vibes~. On the way back, i was really uncomfortable towards Oslo, with barely a Tea being given to me and no other pleasantries. Then, on the Lufthansa part, I had a spacious seat, very friendly crew and they were confused when I carefully asked if I could have a second drink and how much it would cost.
      Yes, I ended up not getting my money back, but the flight back with LH was absolutely great. Worth its money.

    Just did the A350 premium economy from Munich to Delhi in the bulkhead aisle seat on the right side. The recline was great, but as someone who is 5’8, I felt weirdly cramped due to the wall ahead instead of being able to slide under the seat in front of me. I was genuinely uncomfortable throughout trying to find a comfortable position.

    • @jaydawg2023
      @jaydawg2023 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      True! That's why I never pick a bulkhead seat in premium economy. I had a bulkhead seat on a domestic United flight in First Class (which is comparable to Premium Eco on intercontinental flights), and I hated the fact I couldnt stretch my legs

    • @karlnicholls1784

      Worse than that you have to stow your screens before landing ~20mins. No matter the airline. I have done LH premium economy many times DEN to FRA or MUC on the A340 or A350 and it’s pretty good tbh. ESP as both are around 10hrs or so. I do agree that the lack of screening from the economy seats does not feel special.

    • @manualflight

      Did they have foot rest for the bulkhead seat? I flew on Air Canada's premium economy 777. The bulkhead seats did not have a foot rest and I was falling out of the seat constantly mid flight.

      @@karlnicholls1784 Disagree, i had the screen up until the last minutes before touchdown on Singapore economy, and also on Thai businessclass. Be nice to the crew, no unnecessary questions, dont get talkative to the crew after a few shots, dont act Canadian in any way, no perfume (if youre a guy) - this is called being POLITE and will earn you some goodwill.

    Thanks for the video! I had a 9hr flight to Vancouver with LH from Munich in Eco and a premium eco flight back. They surprised me positively on both flights. Improved a lot since the pandemic. The hot towel surprised me a lot and the crew was great. We would also get drinks for the long flights and a bottle of water in economy. Dishes were yummy and we had even two meals on the flight (I think this happens on flights that are 9 hrs or longer).
    All in all maybe some way to go but on the right track IMO!

    Flew from YVR to FRA this last July on a Lufthansa 747-400 in Premium Economy. There we had one dedicated lavatory and galley located between Premium Economy and Business towards the front. The separation from plain Economy was a fixed bulkhead and curtains across the aisles. The seating was 2-4-2, though it was actually more like 2-2|2-2 with a double wide armrest in the middle. I would deduct some points for the awkward placement of the seat bracing that makes it difficult to impossible to store any carry-on under the seat in front of you, or to stretch your legs out comfortably under the seat in front of you.

    • @wa2582

    I just booked a Premium Economy flight on Lufthansa for May/June of 2024, from Saint Louis to Frankfurt. It was not just a couple hundred dollars/euros to upgrade from economy. You always seem to fall victim of what I call the “Lufthansa Effect”, which is that the crews treat non-German speaking pax WILDLY differently in comparison to the German-speaking ones. Probably a language barrier, I feel the LH Effect too when flying IB or TK.
    Although I’m not a native speaker, I live in Germany and I speak the language fluently. I’ve had the chance of running tests for the LH Effect multiple times. If I address a crew member in English, all I can get is “Chicken or pasta”. If I address a crew member in German, the crews tend to be so much more engaging and talkative and even funny! The difference in treatment is mind boggling.

    • @autumnm772
      @autumnm772 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      I can at least minimally confirm your test. We flew LH both times my high school took the German students to Germany. I was in German 3 the first time and just had basics for travel but inside the country. They were polite but very short with me despite a very feeble attempt at stringing words together. When I went again in 2019 after finishing a majority of German V (the highest level) and being conversationally fluent I had a way easier time and got better service. But I also noticed that the flight heading to Germany in 2019 had two of five flight attendants as Americans, whereas in 2017 the first time, none of the flight crew were Americans even on the flight back into the States.

    • @swerves
      @swerves ปีที่แล้ว +4

      I'm not a native speaker either, but unfortunately speaking German with the crew doesn't make up for the meager, paltry, and stingy offerings which started even before COVID and have even extended to sister airline Swiss...at least they stopped serving that penne with tomato sauce on every flight, but that second "meal" is sometimes just an otis spunkmeyer muffin and a cup of yogurt (on Swiss, it's a tiny croissant) and I have deplaned hangry many, many, many times. I've since switched to United to stay in Star Alliance but United food is now catching up and has taken a rapid decline recently as well :(

      @@swerves I will say at least Premium Economy Plus meals are not the sadness it has been. I flew last year in August from IAD-LHR and it was edible and enjoyable.

    • @mstrmren
      @mstrmren 11 หลายเดือนก่อน +3

      I think they just come across as that. I can assure you that most LH crew enjoys their job and their interactions with passengers. My best guess is that a lot of LH crew members (like most Germans) are very self aware about their accent and english profficiency which might lead them to avoid talking English as much as possible, if that makes sense. In General, American and south European "warm" culture is very different to the German culture. As a German, I really enjoy my visits to the US because in Germany most employees, especially in customer service act like you annoy them. You rarely get a smile from anyone.

    I just flew Lufthansa Premium Economy last week. I had a flight between Dublin and FRA and then FRA to Riyadh. I had never flown Lufthansa before despite having a friend of 30+ years that works cabin crew for them. I was not impressed by Lufthansa. It was mediocre at best, but for me the plus was my flight crew on each flight were quite joyous and accommodating. We'll see next month when I return to Dublin if I sing the same song. BTW the pumpkin curry meal was also served on my flight. Looked like a plate of sick but really was very tasty.

  • @ericensley1922
    @ericensley1922 ปีที่แล้ว +5

    This fits my experiences with LH. I tend to fly internationally from ORD, which means if going to Europe, you're likely on LH or UA to MUC or FRA. A few years ago the calculus changed and I've preferred flying UA to LH in all classes, Polaris to basic based on service, entertainment options, and customer service if something goes wrong for connections.
    The final straw for me was a MUC-ORD on a new a350 without ac vents--the cabin crew kept the cabin in the high 70s the entire flight and refused to lower it even after multiple people complained--drenched in sweat and stuffy is no way to arrive after a 9-10 hour flight.

      This happened to me last March '23 when I flew from ORD to MUC and had a window seat. I literally was burning up it was so hot. I had to keep switching seats with my wife who had an aisle seat. I really thought highly of LH before this trip but will never consider them again.

    I flew LH Premium Economy last May-June. We did have a wall divider between our section and Ecomomy on both flights-Poland-US-Poland. It was double the price of Economy for me. But it was worth it because I was much more comfortable physically. I am 68 years old now and appreciate being more physically comfortable. I don’t know if I can go back to Economy. Yes, I agree, the orange mint juice at the beginning of the flight is really tasty. I normally have good service on the plane. Some better than others.

    One drawback in all PE that I have seen until now is the tray table which is in the armrest. I never choose your proposal for bulkhead seat as in addition the flight entertainment is in the armrest as well.

    Last week I flew Lufthansa premium economy from Frankfurt to Singapore on a 747. The seat recline was barely more than economy and I slept very little due to the fact that I was in an exit row, and it was very cold near the door. The “blanket” provided resembled a threadbare tea towel and had no warmth. Fortunately I had brought extra socks and a pashmina with me which helped somewhat. I would not pay for this seat again. The meals were hot and tasty and I have no complaints there. The toilet situation is drastic. Two in front of premium economy and four in the tail. These created problems as the aisles are too narrow for a person to pass the carts, and carts spent a long time in the aisles, as that was the entire economy section.

    I appreciated what your mom said about passengers. I took a British Airways economy flight from Pittsburgh to London with return. The service from the flight attendants was much better than I expected. I latter learned BA flight attendants rate the Pittsburgh flight highly because of the passengers.

    Absolutely right! There are only tiny portions, that's the case in Y+ and also in C. The 2nd service is subterranean, these wraps are not edible. And the service between meals is virtually non-existent. What doesn't work at all are the toilets, which are shared with the Y and also the lack of separation from the Y cabin. Simply bad!

    The best seats in LH PremEco are the second row window seats. This is row 11/16 in A343 as example. The headrest, when reclined is aligned with the pillar between the windows. Other rows will have the window and this will make your head fall between seat and window. Bulkhead is not good because you can not stretch your legs and provides a cramped position.

    The fact that it is hard to get out of your seat with the person in front of you being in full recline [almost certain on a night flight] unless you are a skinny shape shifter, is a deal-breaker for me. And ONE toilet for every 43 passengers. Assuming a strict roster of a specific time for the bathroom, and a specific duration allowed in the bathroom -say 5 mins per person] it would take 3.58 hours for everyone to have a five minute bathroom break! If the average was 10 minutes that gets over than 7 hours-so even on an 8 hour flight there is dubious access, even with strict rostering. Without strict rostering, it is almost guarantied that you would would have to delay ablutions if you were unlucky.
    Military or police types, or cabin crew, have training and experience at getting their business done, a quick teeth clean, hair done, a shave, make-up, uniform detailing, etc, etc with a 5 minute time frame, and end up looking fresh and well turned out. Civilians? Not so much.
    The better seat is more comfortable, but over about 6 hours, the blood tends to pool in your lower abdomen unless you have access to a flat-bed.
    All the other points are just about the same, including a dubious level of service from the cabin-crew in this example. Different people want different things. I would prefer a flat bad seat on a long-haul, even if the in-flight meal was a ham sandwich and a bottle of water. But we are stuck with a business model and average consumer demands. And if you want a really posh meal, it is probably more cost-effective to go to a 5-star restaurant on the ground. But if you must eat 5-star on an aircraft, then enjoy. Not moralizing.
    Ironically, the people who would get the most benefit health-wise from a flat-bed seat are people with disabilities, seniors and pensioners, but unless they are fairly well-off they would not be able to afford more than one or two trips, and some pensioners, none.

    I fly Lufthansa frequently from SFO to FRA and I share your opinion almost fully. Premium economy in LH is worth it if it's a little bit more expensive than the standard economy. On my route, if I can snatch it for $200/5-10k points as an upgrade, I'll get it but otherwise I'd skip. Business on LH is atrocious, honestly Premium Economy on United is much better than Business on LH (bar the lie-down seat of course). I disagree though on the bulkhead seating in premium economy. I flew it once and honestly I didn't like it. The infotainment system in these seats is a hassle and weirdly there's not much to do with your feet despite generous legroom (on regular seats, you just put them under the seat in front of you)

    Yeah. I flew LH economy in the past. I was pretty happy with everything (I am 194 cm) but the portion size left to be desired. Had the Veal Gulash which was delicious but even my 90 year old granny could have eaten more. Luckily they packed extra and gave me anotjer full tray. On my flight back I packed Chinese take out in LA.
    That’s literally my only problem with them here. If they could just get us some more food.

      To be honest, I like Swiss airline’s better. The seat is much more comfortable and bigger, you’ll have more legroom as well. In addition they feed you more often and better meals. They even distribute toys for children. Everyone gets free earbuds, pillows and blankets. I just came back home from my European trip on Dec 29, 2023.

    I think many non germans are just not accustomed to german culture. The flight attendants might speak the bare minimum and not smile - because thats quite a normal thing in Germany. Sure, there are valid problems with Lufthansa... but this might not be one.

    I was a Senator with Lufthansa for 10 years. Then lost it all during Covid. Anyway already before Covid 2020, Lufthansa was going downhill very fast. 10 years ago it was one of the best in Europe, but now - forget about them. I have numerous times had my flight cancelled due to various strikes, and the staff are surely not happy working for LH and it shows.

    Interesting to see the evolution. Premium Eco is somewhat the same level of comfort as Business Class 25 years ago. It's filling the gap, left by a constantly downgraded economy class and an upgraded business class.

      @@NonstopDan There are two near the E Gates in Terminal 2 (Primeclass and Priority - near the Emirates lounge I think) and the Air France Lounge in the Schengen zone is also Priority Pass. I've been to them all in the past, though I'm a Lufthansa Senator nowadays so don't tend to bother.
      You nailed the Lufthansa PE review, by the way. I'm in FRA now waiting for my regular flight in PE flight to Luanda. Given the poor quality of Lufthansa Business, I think their PE is the sweet spot for them.
