I really appreciate this review! My spouse and I booked Air France premium economy (also on the A350) between Detroit and Paris for 35K Flying Blue points as well, and I wasn't sure if it was worth it or not. It seems like we made a good choice for our flight next year!
I switched to AF a couple of years ago on my usual long haul and so far I’m very pleased with them. Their Business Class product is very good, service and food excellent. Having to make a stopover at CDG instead of a direct flight has been no problem and considering the saving in cost it’s a no brainer.
Flew Af PE in April from SF to Paris, round trip. Had exit row seats with no one in front of us. Seats were of the “shell” design so they don’t actually recline, only change positions within the shell. Nice amenity kits as in the video. Two meals were served on china dishes, and a nice tray of small sandwiches was offered in between. The flight attendants were efficient but not friendly, and we only saw them during meal times. The temperature of the cabin was chilly but bearable. Overall the pricey $600 upgrade was worth it for the legroom and more comfortable seat for a 10 1/2 hour flight.
Thank you for taking the time and effort and expense to rate these carriers on their premium economy service. Helps the rest of use make educated choices. Wishing both a happy holiday and a fabulous New Year 👍🙏😎🤪
Hey Dan. I actually just took Af’s premium economy from Paris to Dallas about a month ago. I’m sorry but it was awful. The seat itself was not too bad, although I still felt cramped in it, and no foot rest to be able to sleep properly. And the crew? Very nice, for as long as you left your seat to go to the back galley and ask for drinks there. Calla bells were not answered. In a 10.30 hr flight, they came ONCE, just once with drinks of water throughout the cabin . Unlike on ba when crew are in the cabin at least once every 30 minutes at least to browse through, see if everyone is all right, if there are no suspicious smells in the cabin (fire prevention), but they are still there every 30 minutes. Here on AF? Just that one time, and I didn’t sleep all flight that’s how I know. It was freezing in the cabin, told the crew, no one did anything about it. You should have seen the passengers in economy and premium economy, we were all like under double blankets, extra sweaters, extra clothes, and winter hats on our hands. Pathetic. It was a 787, modern airplane, all it takes is crank up the temperature by one degree. I won’t fly with them again. I’ll give my money to Singapore Airlines.

Hello Dan, you say that premium economy is "the cabin taking the world by storm." But it's taken over 30 (thirty) years for that to happen. VS and BR instigated this class around 1992. BA followed in year 2000. Why did it take the others so long to catch up ?
The issue with the recline is also elsewhere: if someone in front of you fully reclines, on a day flight for example, you cannot use the table tray, forget to open your laptop, or put an iPad upright.
@@battalion99: I beg to differ. You pay for Premium Eonomy in large part because of the generous recline. Therefore, those who badmouth travelers wanting to utilize that function, are the terrible ones.

12:22 Many European Airlines have Tail Cameras on the Airbus A350, but the reason they are not on the inflight entertainment is that airlines have to pay extra for these. On top of that, the pilots need the tail camera more than passengers (on many large aircraft for taxiing). Meaning they still have tail cameras, but only the pilots can use them.

Honestly, I don't mind the small meal with the amount of light bites they give you. Sometimes, especially in biz, I feel like the portions are too big and I don't have the stomach to try all of the meals and snacks provided without blowing up my stomach. Anyway, great review!
I prefer premium economy on the slimmer widebody planes like the 767, 787, A330 & A340 which offers slightly better aisle access with 2-2-2 or 2-3-2 seating.
Can you tell me if the seat on row 12 of Air France's Premium Economy fully recline back like the rest in Premium Economy? Many people said that because it's the last row, it does not fully recline like the others. Thank you.
I would like to see the Premium Comfort of KLM. I am flying premium economy in December 2024. I know they are a lot like Air Frances premium economy/comfort, so this should suffice until then.
Wow - thanks for this! We're scheduled to fly Air France Premium Economy LAX-CDG in May! It will be our first time flying non-cattle-class. (Anne has been bumped to First Class way back in the day, but we've only flown econ together)
Note that from LAX, AF will more likely than not be flying a "4P" (i.e. has La Premiere) configured 777, which has quite possibly the worst premium economy seat in the world, especially for a redeye (the seat doesn't recline)... that configuration will start being phased out of the fleet next year.
You really need try the JAL premium economy. The seats go forward with the recline and there's a hard backing behind them, so nothing the person in front or behind you does can ever bother you. I dream of flying on it but alas, I never have to go east asia.
last time I went on premium economy in airfrance last January, there was specific headphones WITH noise cancelling. Nothing in terms of sound quality and reduction compared to the usual Bose or JBL, but I've never had such good headphones from an airline. That being said, as you would guess they are connected to the seat so that you don't take them with you.
Just a note regarding 2G. Yes, its far to connect, but its probably the best terminal on CDG. No long cues to drop luggage or security control… basically, you are almost always quickly through. Lounge is also nice (just do not be there for a morning rush hour). And flying again tommorow PE on A350. Day flight, 7 hours, do not plan to sleep… no need to upgrade to business
CDG really sucks if you have a connection there. No signage to point you in the right direction. I've even asked airport personnel there for guidance and have been pointed in the wrong and opposite direction. The only positive is that at least you get your steps in between flights.
Just flew economy on Aer Lingus from DUB to ORD, I now feel even more like I rode on the Greyhound bus of the sky. 😂 No wifi, broken screen, no space in the overhead bins, no legroom whatsoever, visible dirt in the lavatory. Food that has been downgraded to barely recognizable over the years, served on a sticky tray that appeared to have been improvised from a part of something else? (hard to describe how weird this was.) Don't get me started on the state of affairs at ORD. I love fantasizing about luxury flying- and my standard at this point would be exceeded by maybe some hope of a centimeter more of legroom.
I dunno if it's possible but try out the older version of premium economy on air france! It's designed almost like a first class seat on a trainline with the encased sofa! a bit awkward to recline but other than that I was blown away especially for the overall value
13:17 Air France serves different food in Premium Economy and Economy. The menu is not the same, and Premium Economy has metal cutlery and a real glass.
I've taken this product and it's pretty nice. I was one a trip where we took Delta Premium Select from US --> EU and Air France Premium Economy from EU --> US. It was a pretty close race, but I slightly preferred Delta's product due to the lavatory situation.
Completely agree with the comments on pricing for P/Economy products, if it is only a little under Business class (as Qantas is at the moment) it is not worth it. However, if the price is somewhere mid range between Economy and Business then go for it. Qantas P/Economy, back in the 2000s, was worth the $$ as it was mid range between the then Economy and Business Class products; I did two trips to Europe from Australia on QF in Premium Economy at that time. Now, pricing (as of this week) for QF P/Economy Melbourne-Singapore return is only 400-500 AUD below the cost for a QF Business Class seat; not worth it and I booked Business Class as I will not suffer the current QF International Economy product as it is abysmal. I have not flown Air France since before Covid, I might give it a try now.
I am in Prague now for the holidays. I flew Miami to Paris (CDG) and Paris to Prague. I was originally booked in Air France business (because I got a great deal) but with some delays, my connecting flight was actually on Czech Airlines (I was impressed). That Air France 777-300 was definitely an older model but I think the business class was their newer layout (1-2-1). The flight crew were awesome. I will say that the aircraft itself showed its age. The middle business class seat had 2 huge strips of duct tape holding a section of it together. The power supply on my seat was broken. Oh well. Flight crew - awesome Food - Excellent Seat - Comfortable but I’m only 5’7” and my feet felt weird in the footwell. Would I do it again? Yes! In fact, I’m flying home in AF business too.
Pretty sure Singapore Airlines would trump AF... The option to "Book the Cook" on Singapore Airlines for premium economy makes for an enjoyable flight... - Pork cheek teriyaki with rice - Rosemary beef brisket - Pancakes with maple syrup and scrambled eggs 🤗🤗
So alot better than my premium economy flight with them pretty much exactly a year ago for a 14 hour flight. Got a tiny dinner right after takeoff, and didn't get any service again until right before landing. I even tried to call the flight attendants with the button, but they apparently time out after an hour. No one showed up the three times I tried the button. I was exhausted and spent most of the flight both thirsty and hungry.
Glad you had a decent trip. We travelled on AF Premium Economy on the 777 to Singapore. It was the very worst of flights. Old seating was broken outbound and return, service was terrible, constantly ignoring call bells. Lights off, forcing everyone to sleep even when it was daytime at Singapore and Paris. GF food was delivered frozen and only potato chips offered instead. Worst experience ever.
Virgin Atlantic Premium economy was pretty good, not sure about cash price but 13,000 points for an upgrade one way from Europe to America seemed good value if 1p per point ...for extra space and some fizz
Very timely video. I am looking to do a Business Class flight on KLM to Amsterdam in the fall, then considering Premium Economy return on Air France from Paris if I don't have enough points for Business by then.
Great review ! It was very important that you showed how uncomfortable it was when the person in front of you reclines all the way. I would not do Air France premium economy unless I get a bulkhead seat, as you suggest. It’s not a great deal more money to get business class so if I can’t get a bulkhead seat in premium economy, I’m either going to save the money and suffer in economy or pay more for business class.
That was a nice report. Happy Holidays to you and Oscar. I flew from Paris to Florence in Air France business because I wanted to use their lounge. Tres elegant! Then from Florence to London City in British Air business. Have to say that the food and personal service was better on British. Of course my very nice cabin attendant was from Paris.
Just flew premium economy On AF’s refurbished 777-300 . Seats are the same but they upgraded the headphones and we now have some really nice ones in premium economy, noise cancelling that are integrated within the seat like business class.
@@marieaudreyduchamp8839 not wrong, i meant that the premium eco seats on the refurbished 777 are the same as the A350 which is reviewed in the video : Recaro PL3530 :)
Air France economy to Hong kong from Paris recently. Horrible experience, seat was hard and I kept shifting due to the pain that set in after about 3 hours. Will avoid and spend extra on a different airline next time, I don’t remember having that problem with the Chinese airlines…
Hey Dan, you should make a review of premium economy on KLM! For me it’s most of the times amazing experience but food is either hit a miss - sometimes a business class experience while sometimes I wasn’t able to finish 20% of the meal because it was just bad
Major issue with premium economy is that you almost never have it on the feeder connections. Yes, your expectations are fulfilled for the long flight. But than back again in economy for the next 1-4 hours
I have flown with KLM, Delta, and Air France Premium Comfort, and to me, Delta is the best. Great food, lots of service, a well-equipped amenity kit, and they have the same chairs as KLM. What I absolutely don't like from KLM is this amenity bag. Or they assume we go for camping after the flight! I love the chairs from Air France, more private, and their amenity kit is great. But the service is not really wow. What I don't like is the food (same as economy) and this breakfast box. Who has even thought about that?! Klm and Delta food is great! So, for me, Delta!
Loved this series but surprised you didn’t do virgin as they’ve had premium for so long and have that edgy personality you say you look for. I recently did premium return from Heathrow to Cape Town. The soft product and layout was very similar to this video but you got to share the 4 toilets in front with business class. Other things to note were pre departure drinks and hot cloths, a private premium gallery stocked with drinks and snacks you can get yourself and stretch your legs, very large meal service with cutlery etc. My one big downfall was the entertainment choice. I always remembered virgin being great but Vera barely had any known or latest films on there making watching something very difficult.
Hi Dan, good morning, well I would say congratulations to you, but the journey of more than six hours was great, but I couldn't help but thank the flight attendants, it was really good. Thank you.😊
hahaha...you are a true professional for passing up such an amazing business class upgrade offer! Thank you for sharing about Premium Economy, I am saving up for 2 Business class tickets to take my sister to Paris one day but this shows me what it would be like for getting the mid-range option. Also! Have you heard about Starlink being available on planes in the near future? When that happens we can finally say goodbye to crappy airplane wifi.

I flew on AF's Airbus 350 , Premium Economy, Paris to Osaka. I couldn’t fault it. Magnificent comfort and cabin crew.
This is standard behaviour by Air France crew unfortunately.
Hi Dan what camera do you use to make your videos nice and clear thanks
I love Qantas bulkead premium economy seats! was fantastic. Great food, personalised service, comfy seats... 10/10
Are you going to try the SAS A350 from Copenhagen to Stockholm this January? Sounds like a fun and unique experience :D
I’ve done a few premium economies now Dan and have to say, Qantas’ newly fitted a380/787 premium economy is top notch 👌
Very timely video. I am looking to do a Business Class flight on KLM to Amsterdam in the fall, then considering Premium Economy return on Air France from Paris if I don't have enough points for Business by then.
Merry Christmas Dan! Hope you had a Happy Channukah too!
Of course my very nice cabin attendant was from Paris.
you should've tried the new equivalent on KLM, heard mixed reviews on it
Thank you two for sharing this beautiful trip. Merry Christmas and Happy New Years!!😊😊😊
Do passengers sitting in the front row have access to entertainment ? I dont see any TV screen in front of them
Just flew premium economy On AF’s refurbished 777-300 . Seats are the same but they upgraded the headphones and we now have some really nice ones in premium economy, noise cancelling that are integrated within the seat like business class.
Wrong … the seats are NOT the same. 777 used to have a hard fixed back that makes all the difference !
@@marieaudreyduchamp8839 not wrong, i meant that the premium eco seats on the refurbished 777 are the same as the A350 which is reviewed in the video : Recaro PL3530 :)
CDG-AUH roundtrip in PE in the spring is just 500€ now😳
Merry Christmas Dan and Oscar, love the flight 😊😊
Great review! Love Air France despite baggage experience. My sentiments exactly regarding CDG.
What are your thoughts on singapore airlines a380 buisness class?
Merry Christmas 🎅 to you and your family. Thank you for sharing Best wishes Diane 😊😊
I feel that Air France most important issue is maintaining the equipment inside the plain for passenger
It's official! The people love Oskar featuring in Nonstop Dan videos 😂
🙏
Why doesn't AF have the issues with the A350 that are plaguing other carriers? Flew one from JFK to Qatar was very impressive.
The attack on Simon Cowell was a hilarious touch 😂
Air France economy to Hong kong from Paris recently. Horrible experience, seat was hard and I kept shifting due to the pain that set in after about 3 hours. Will avoid and spend extra on a different airline next time, I don’t remember having that problem with the Chinese airlines…
I love it that you had Oscar so inclusive in this.
Hey Dan, why don’t you try the KLM premium comfort class? I really enjoy it!
Great video. . . Once again. . . . . Happy holidays guys!
Hey Dan, you should make a review of premium economy on KLM! For me it’s most of the times amazing experience but food is either hit a miss - sometimes a business class experience while sometimes I wasn’t able to finish 20% of the meal because it was just bad
Thanks for the idea!
Major issue with premium economy is that you almost never have it on the feeder connections. Yes, your expectations are fulfilled for the long flight. But than back again in economy for the next 1-4 hours
Big O and Big D - another super video and I can't wait for what's in store for 2024. Joyeaux Noel!
Amazing video! Merry Christmas Dan!
Dan, when you’re talking with Oscar, so you usually speak swedish or english with each other?
Thank you.😊
Any plans to fly Zip Air?
hahaha...you are a true professional for passing up such an amazing business class upgrade offer!
Great content as always.
En mycket bra sammanfattning av flygningen! 👏
Nice vlog, good editing. And a good alternative to the asian Premium Economy seats.
