Excellent presentation! We're receiving our Rivian R1S in June 2023. You provided us with extremely important information that I, for one, never would have thought about, when towing or jump-starting our new EV! You saved us from potentially damaging our vehicle through our own ignorance! Kudos to you for such a thorough explanation!
Excellent video Sir. You know your stuff and your presentation skills are up there with the best I have ever watched! I’ve done much public speaking myself over the years and your pace is perfect to hold your watchers attention. I don’t own a tow truck but I certainly look forward to watching more of your videos! Great job!
Awesome video! This was so much great info. I don’t tow, but I’m glad to see people like you guys are taking the time to understand EV platforms so jobs like these get done right
These EV platforms are extremely technical when it comes to their handling during breakdown events. We'll do whatever we can do to help Tow Truck drivers ensure a positive customer experience for the vehicle owner and auto manufacturer. Links to all our socials: linktr.ee/towtrucktech
Great great great that’s all I’m going to say. As a tow truck driver is hard to know about this new cars if is not for someone like you. Thanks for your help 🙌🏻
Thank you for the kind words Jose. Please share with anyone you know in the Towing Biz, as well as Towing Groups on social media, so we can spread awareness on these new vehicles. We’re going to keep after creating this content so if you guys want to see something drop us a message.
It needed a long form format and additional attention to some other issues in the name of awareness. Let me know when we need to address EDV, folks are struggling with that platform as well.
One of the best Ev/automotive video’s I have seen. Thank you. I think you are limiting your view hits with the title with the word tow. It’s not just for towing. Could appeal to a wide audience on title alone.
We've been discussing this since you commented and are going to make a few changes. Thank you for the constructive criticism. Links to all our socials: linktr.ee/towtrucktech
This is concerning. On my Kona EV, if the 12V batt is dead, I can use a portable jumper on the battery or in the car cigarette lighter socket. Why should you have to remove the back bumper access panel? Is the 12V batt hidden from the user?
Batteries are buried in the cowl. All entry to the vehicle is electronically actuated, no power - no entry. The jump leads at the back are the solution the OEM engineered into the vehicle. A more sensible solution would have been remote leads to open to front trunk and remote jump posts nearer the batteries.
Do you run a truck yourself? We have access to a few Polestars, waiting on participation from the OEM for technical and engineering concerns to put it together. Stay tuned!
Absolutely. The Control Arms are on a lower plane, similar to that of the winch on the carrier deck. Going high to the Tow Hooks would compress the front suspension as the truck nears the winch during loading, something that is best avoided. As well, not all models have the front tow hooks. As a prototype the platform had a Tow Eyelet which was subsequently removed when this unfavorable high connection point was brought to attention. Links to all our socials: linktr.ee/towtrucktech
It does have a spare. It looks like a space saver, however as you inflate it it unrolls itself into decent size. "Rivian Dad" did a video on it. Since all Rivians have a built in air compressor, that spare doesn't need to be inflated.
Have said this a few times with all EVs. They need an easily accessible place to cut the power from the 12V to do a hard reboot when crazy things happen. And also an easy place to access the 12V for jumping. Those two flimsy cables in the back will not hold up. Can imagine trying to plug a jumper cable to each and having it rip in half.
The jump leads in the back are robust enough to hold up. That being said, having remote jump posts up front, nearer that batteries, would make a whole lot more sense and eliminate complications.
@@c0dych1ef Oh you absolutely can. From the user manual, "Push up the drive stalk to put the vehicle in Neutral. The vehicle can roll freely in Neutral after you release the brake."
ON THE R1S IT HAS A CLASS IV RECEIVER HITCH RATED FOR 7,700 POUNDS, THE VEHICLE WEIGHS 7,068 POUNDS THEREFORE IF FOR WHATEVER REASON SUCH AS A NON RESPONSIVE COMPUTER IM NOT SURE I WOULD RECOMMEND TRYING TO SKATE AND SLIDE THE VEHICLE ONTO A ROLLBACK WHILE PULLING FROM ITS HITCH. AT THE VERY LEAST IT WOULD MAKE ME NERVOUS.
@@zackaryscott1265 - for Towing and Roadside purposes use the lower control arms, they are closer to the same plane as the winch and as the vehicle is drawn onto the bed your not unnecessarily pulling down on the front vehicle as you would be with the hooks. This is one of those rare occasions the OEM has actually validated the control arms for loading. As well, the Tow Hooks are not a standard item on all R1S or R1T’s.

Delighted to see this information is well received by vehicle owners as well.
As a flatbed tow truck operator, this was very informative. Thank you!

Amazing video! Great for tow truck drivers but really is information that every Rivian owner should know. Thank you!
Completely agree!

This is all a great video for owner’s like myself who want to know how their vehicle should be towed.
Hopefully the need never arises.
Very informative video. Thanks for doing all the research to give us the Cliff notes on the vehicle.
Bunch of smart folks at Rivian answered a lot of questions to make this possible.
Amazing video. Shocked to see this quality out of a channel with fewer than 500 subscribers at the time of posting! Here's to many more
Glad to see you making cool videos! You are the master. Looking forward to more. - Two dogs, a girl, and a horse
We’ve had a lot of help in Normal and Irvine with engineering, makes it easy to turn out quality content.
Great info and thanks for taking the time to do this video. 👍
Appreciate the feedback!
We have more coming, stay tuned.

Thank you. Very informative and extremely well presented.
You are very informed, sir. Thank you for sharing.
Thank you for the feedback.
Excellent video! VERY informative for anyone who owns one or needs to tow one. Great job!
Thank you for all the information along the way, it’s been a journey.
Great video on topics rarely discussed! Thank you
Good video. I learned a lot. I had no clue on many of the aspects presented.
Thank you for taking the time to drop us line with positive feedback.

Thanks for this I’m downloading this on to my YT app in the off chance I need to get towed from middle of nowhere.
This look incredibly familiar, but incredibly different at the same time 😂💙😂

The size of the 6-piston caliper! The beef of all the forged aluminum suspension parts is amazing.
Great info for all owners in case the tow company hasn't had exposure to the info.
Very well stated, thank you!

I was a little surprised you focused on the front control arm for a bridle connection instead of the tow hooks through the bumper. Can you elaborate?

Great video. One question... do you need to worry about tire change mode if the vehicle's on a lift?
Going up on a lift in the manner we had it in the video, no need to worry about Tire Change Mode. Thank you for asking!
Excellent info!
Thank you Jim!
If the 12v is dead it seems it wouldnt go back into park after 15m. I wonder if it has a steering lock at all or if it always can be steered?
Good vid, just missed the second 12v under the hood that may also need a jump.
Newer models only have one battery in case you can't find the second one.
Did this vehicle have the spare tire with it? Curious about the weight you measured and whether it would be less/more.
No spare in this unit, it’s not going to accommodate a full size like in the R1T, maybe a space saver.
It does have a spare. It looks like a space saver, however as you inflate it it unrolls itself into decent size. "Rivian Dad" did a video on it. Since all Rivians have a built in air compressor, that spare doesn't need to be inflated.
The vredestein r1s spare is optional. Not everyone will have it. In fact most won't. You get slime. The wheels are compatible with older Dodge 20s.
Omg this is an excellent video and I love this truck however definitely to techi for me.
These are great videos! Can you please do one for a Tesla Model Y? And a Cybertruck one in the future. 😂
Had a few requests for Teslas. Have a contact over there need to get him to pull the trigger on info and vehicles. Stay tuned!
Never seen a black one I love the color
It’s a good looking truck.

Why couldn't you put the vehicle in neutral by using the shifter?
This is an EV with four independent electric motors driving their respective wheels; there is no transmission to “shift” into neutral.
@@obfuscurity I know you can put Rivians into neutral by holding the stock up. Why can't he put it in neutral though?
@@c0dych1ef Oh you absolutely can. From the user manual, "Push up the drive stalk to put the vehicle in Neutral. The vehicle can roll freely in Neutral after you release the
brake."
As soon as you open the door the vehicle will apply the Electronic Park Brake (EPB) as a default safety measure to prevent a rollaway.

Does GM have any definitive timeline on that vehicle yet?
It literally has two tow hooks on the front end.
Yes, it does have two hooks on the front.
