Thank you for this! There is so much false information on the internet about funding undergrad medicine as a second degree. It initially put me off even applying however, I am now an offer holder. My new university is a 1 hour 40 min commute on the train, so I'm trying my best to pass my driving as it's just a 40 min car journey. Covid has been quite advantageous as the first semester will be online thank God 🙌
I’m in the exact same position thanks for this video! The BMA Charities grant and the sir Richard stapley educational trusts are good options for scholarships for graduate medical students on undergraduate courses, I know friends who’ve gotten both of them!

So if you get onto medicine via the graduate route- do the NHS fund this? Can I just double check this please. 💜
I also reccomend tutoring while at uni, people are willing to pay things like £40-£70 per hour when they hear someone is a medical student, and some pay even more for things like interview prep and entrance exam revision. Also, during application periods, try and work for a company that hires medical students to do things like UCAT and BMAT crash courses or interview courses. I heard they pay pretty well.

I’m so jel you got into Southampton, I applied for the grad programme and honestly it was my first choice as the campus is lovely and the course seemed great! Unfortunately I didn’t get in so I’m studying at Warwick now, but this vid was so helpful! I worked during my first year of med a lot but will need to step it up as before where I was getting the max student loan in second year of grad med you get the NHS Bursary which works out way less money aha, so thanks for the tips. Just subscribed!

can I get the maintenance loan for bds dentistry
This is great if one is entitled to maximum maintenance loans and therefore further bursaries but it just doesn't work for me as despite being a graduate all my loans are still dependent on my parent's income even though I am moving out and will be independent. Sounds like you have a decent plan though! Congrats!
Yeah i totally get this plan is reliant on the maintenance loan, so it’s not a solution for everyone which is a shame. Have you looked into applying for maintenance as an independent? I’ve read that independents are also allowed max maintenance loan but I’m not sure what the official parameters are for being considered an independent.
@@LydiaMartinMedic Unfortunately my age doesn't help and I won't be moved out till next year so if I need to reapply to an undergrad my only save in grace will be trying to take a year to save up as much money as I can. Which is why I've had to focus more time in applying for graduate schools

I’m from Singapore and I’m going to start an Undergraduate BsC Science in Physiotherapy (Hons) in Sept in my home country. I plan to pursue a graduate medical school in Singapore if possible. As singapore is really small there’s only 1 graduate-entry Medical school which cost £27,000/yr (for 4 yrs) I’m looking at alternatives in the graduate entry in Australia (4yrs), Canada (4yrs) and Undergraduate in UK (5yrs) as well. It’s really not cheap as an international student as tuition fee for the UK is typically £35,000-45,000/yr and there’s still living cost. You’re so lucky that your previous undergraduate is funded by the government and £9,250/yr for 5 yrs is still really cheap (for me). As undergraduate medicine in singapore (only 2 schools and a total of 450 students in each batch) cost about £17,000-20,000/yr for 5 yrs.
My undergraduate (4yrs) will cost about £24,000 and that’s already subsidised by the government. It would cost £86,000 without subsidies.
You can try studying medicine in Europe. It's much cheaper.
@@Nico.Robin7 Hi!! I did look into it, unfortunately I am unable to speak any of those languages since I’ll have to learn them and be fluent in it before I can go. Plus it’s not certain that I will be accepted too. Plus there’s a list of approved medical schools in Europe that I have to follow or I won’t be able to practice in my home country. According to the list I only have 1 medical school i can enter in Belgium, France, Denmark, Austria, Finland, Ireland & Spain. 3 in both germany & sweden. And 4 in switzerland & netherlands. The medical programmes are taught in their respective languages so the hard part will be translating what I learn into english and mandarin. and a few chinese dialects & malay for some medical terms.
@@Nico.Robin7 it’s not part of the list :( there’s only 102 medical schools in the world that i can go to. The bulk of it being in Australia, US or UK. The US one is hard cos I’ll need to spend undergrad there (at least that’s what most unis said) and these 3 countries are rlly expensive :/
Idk what your life plans are or anything but aside from the stuff u mentioned if u wanted to specialise or go down a route in medicine useful to the military pretty sure rn and army and raf offer pretty generous bursaries as well if your willing to go down that route that is

This much fees you told 9250 british pound ,it is also same in india like 10 lakh inr or even more in private colleges ,one of my friend is doing his medicine from jaipur city and i asked him about his fees then he told 17,00,000 inr per year that is much more terrifying ,and in india for general category students like me its impossible to take admission in government universities because of very very less seats available in colleges of india so now i have better opportunity and i am doing my medicine from armenia (europe)

Hi, I have a question I hoped you could help answer. Im a grad and have secured a place for a100 medicine at SGUL for 2020. If I do a PGCE biology this September will student finance fund that too? I just wanted to know if this PGCE funding would sabotage the maintenance loan that I’d get for medicine which is way more important.

Glad you found it helpful! To be honest i think i knew i defo wanted to sit the UCAT for Southampton and I was less keen to have to also prepare for another test like the GAMSAT on top of UCAT? I think if there was a GAMSAT uni i really wanted to go to I might have considered doing it.

HeyAnj hey! I’ve been working in a Pub since it reopened in July, I’m doing 45-50 hours a week at the moment so it’s tough but I’m just glad to be working. When I go back to uni I’m hoping to start tutoring as the money would be better per hour 🤓☺️

Hi I am a international graduate nurse working in nhs.planning to study graduate entry medicine.Will I be able to work part time if I join medicine there?can you tell me about your schedules like how many days there is classes n all?
hey - so it is possible to work part time. I spent the first 3 months of the year working 20 hours/week until the pub shut for lockdown and I was put on furlough. The days are busy but I'm usually finished by 4/5 so i can go to work in the evenings (and at weekends). But I'm on undergraduate so might be worth asking someone who is on graduate entry as their course is more intense!
