Always loveee your videos 💞
Glad you enjoy them 🫶🏼
ahhhh final placement!!! That's crazy, I've got 3 more left (my MLA sitting is March though) and our placements are now 4 weeks - I swear med schools love heaping extra stuff on when we've got things to be stressed about 🥲
I have my second year finals coming soon and this has got me motivated again!!
Ahhh good luck !!
You're acute medical unit
I’m in final year tooo😭
Love itttt🎉❤❤
this is crazy! I started watching you as a senior in high school and now I'm a junior in undergrad. you have no idea how much you've helped me. can't believe you're in your final placement!!! super excited for you ❤❤❤
Hey nice vlog, just curious if you knew Anthony Zhang
Thanks!! Yes I do 😁
awesome video lydia
Sounds like fearsome hard work. All the best, Lydia.
Thank you ❤️
This was super helpful! Does anyone know how job allocation works when somebody is pre-allocated to a deanery? Surely they wouldn't have a random number like everyone else... So confusing🙃
Good luck! I'm 60 and returning to teaching after a 10 year gap! I have a thick skin! I hope you flourish as a medic!
Ahh I've been watching you since before starting med school (I'm 4th year now) - so wild you're almost a doctor eee!! Crossing absolutely everything that you get the allocations you want <3
Do you think the preferences should be made smaller? So people are more likely to get the exact area they want? Like how are Scotland and Wales on the same level of some areas of England (again I get this is probably linked to jobs etc), the second round seems like it should be flipped, so if you got a good place, you go to the bottom for the specialism etc but maybe it’s just too hard admin wise, because then essentially you’ve either got a specialism you like or an area you like, seems like a fair compromise
In the US, this is sort of how you get assigned to schools in major cities like NYC, SF, Boston, etc. You put down your first choice for kindergarten for your 5 yr old, and then in order of other schools in the city you want, and it's a lottery system. Except you get extra preference if say, you already have an older sibling at a specific school. Then you do the same for middle school and high school. How does this work with Jack's job? Can he go with you and work remotely, or does he have to stay near his job?
Good luck Lydia! When will you find out which number of the 10,000 you get allocated? x
Ugh... this ranking system is putting me off of medical school!!! I've been watching you since the beginning and can't believe your med school journey is nearly finished!!!
yeah after years of hard work it seems a shame I get no real say where I work! I can't believe it either... time flies!! thank you for following along xx
One of your older subscribers here. I do like the random allocation system, it sounds fairer than based on an anemic merit. After all there are a multitude of reasons for why and how people can rank in medical school. However I do think they could make the deanery allocation and job allocation more integrated. Fingers crossed you get your first choice deanery and a job within it that works well for you.
Yeah I do agree about grades being so dependent on your personal circumstances and I think unfortunately there's not system they could create that will be fair to everyone :/ I wish it was set up like a normal job application where you do an interview etc but the logistics of organising that for 10,000 new doctors must be why they don't do it. But thank you let's hope it all works out!! x
@ Yes I understand the challenges of the logistics of it but also of wading your way through the process as it is currently. Let’s hope your allocation is a good one for you.
Omg I thought the US ERAS system was bad, this is BRUTAL! Back of the queue ?!?
So brutal 🫣
awesome video lydia
Thank you!! X
@ no worries
Thank you Lydia for explaining this new system so well. However it sounds like a lottery to me. After all the hard work that you have dedicated yourself to I think that it is such a shame that they don’t take into account your grades and life experience. It sounds pretty brutal and unfair. I do hope that you get your first choice though and can stay in your lovely flat.
Thank you I hope so too xx Sadly it is a lottery really..you've hit the nail on the head there... my previous degrees and life experience might have meant something before. The only thing that makes me feel better is when I apply for speciality training in ~2 years, they will take these things into account!!
wow, the system doesn't seem too fair and friendly if you ask me. however the thing i never understood was how do you specialize into a certain specialty? what if you graduate and want to go into surgery, or paraclinical or clinical or lab. when and how do you get to choose what you work as? is there any academic merit to choosing? in Romania it's all based on a national exam taking place at the same time in the whole country and then a repartition from first to bottom where everyone chooses a city and a specialty to instantly start working in, obviously within the availability of free places to choose from. i'm rather curious how things work out there. best of luck and fingers crossed with your repartition!! ♥♥
So basically after youve completed the first 2 years (foundation year 1 and foundation year 2) you can apply for speciality training. Each specialty has its own training program so for example GP is 3 years whereas paediatrics is 8 years! Different specialities are more competitive thank others… but luckily this bit isn’t randomly allocated and they look at your individual achievements!
Okay, I just got on here. I saw that your video is 13 min, and you have 13 comments, not including mine!
If you come back... I suggest you don't stay in Times Square area or Manhattan at all... Stay in Williamsburg Brooklyn or Park Slope Brooklyn. It's 20-30 mins away from Times Square on the Subway and so much nicer and cheaper. ijs.... Glad you enjoyed my City 🎉👍🏻💯
loving the final year diaries <33 i’m retaking biology and chemistry a level and reapplying to medicine for next entry and it’s been hard to pick myself up but your journey to medicine and these videos are always so inspiring to watch ❤️
Gunwharf Quays is cool.

awesome video lydia
thanks for our weekly dose of motivation!😍
do you get any written exams or single-best answer/MCQ? x
Your vlogs motivate me so much
I've never felt you were more relatable than when you put half a glass worth of ice into your drink. In the US the milestones everyone is obsessed with are: pincer grasp and when a toddler can jump. I am in shock that black mold is acceptable in a rental - that is illegal in the US. I hope your bathroom has an exhaust fan - that helps tremendously with not letting mold grow (as does opening the window of course).
Love the vlogs and the flat is so nice!!
love

you dropped your phone again? 😭
Nooo not again, I’ve uploaded my last couple videos in a bit of a mixed up order… only dropped my phone on my face once…so far 😭😂
Another great vlog Lydia. Got a bit confused at the end, wondered why you were getting glammed up to go for your run. Then realised there must have been a time-lapse 😏 . . .
awesome video lydia
oh thank God, my boyfriend has covid right now and even though we were really careful I have a 38 degree fever now.. finally a video to watch to distract myself. (my next med school term starts oct 1st so at least I didn't get ill during term) ❤
Oh no sorry you’ve been hit with Covid !! Feel better soon and good luck for your new term 🥰🥰

there is no link when u look up the links there is everything but nothing for medical apprenticeship
If you check Anglia Ruskin University website they have listed it under apprenticeships but you can currently view the information as applications are currently closed. According to their website the first medical apprenticeship course has started
but it’s not true
