I have to admit the guilty pleasure of feeling downright competent in comparison to these people. A rather dark way to get a confidence boost, but it works!
I like how Kristen explains about the place. "It's not only the menu that's out of control, it's the decor. Welcome to grandma's house." LOL She seems really nice too.
There is a brewery/pint room in Denver called Grandma's House and it markets itself on that decor and atmosphere. Beer is good, they host knitting clubs, there are doileys everywhere, beer is good, and the TVs are CRT with old video game systems and tournaments for like N64 Mario Kart and Tetris. If you go into it marketing it like that, it could succeed. Also CLEAN.
@@JohnZombi88 beer is good, games are aplenty, events from knitting to D&D are there. Close to good places as well. I would not call it a gimmick, I grew up in the 90s.

The Old Neighborhood Restaurant was up for sale when this episode was filmed in July 2013. After the episode aired, the owners increased the asking price too $775,000. The owners eventually sold the restaurant and closed their doors on 1 May 2016.
I actually feel bad for the owners. After gordon reveals the true state of the place and stops service, they actually admit outside when they hug that they're very bad at what they do. I think it was great to see them hugging each other, and I love that they admitted their faults and are committed to change. That's the first step.
the guy was like "we serve that shit" thinking he did the biggest comeback ever and then gordon was like ohh yeah... shut the place down then ahahahahaha
I feel so happy for them. They are some of the most deserving people of Gordon's help i've seen. They were a bit in denial, sure, but they didn't scream at gordon ONCE.
They point blank used Gordon. They listed the restaurant for sale right after this and even had the balls to raise the asking price, due to Gordon’s selfless contribution of new equipment. They just wanted to profit off his good intentions.
That's me all the time out of my house. I'm not a germaphobe, I just tend to touch my face a lot and I'd rather not suffer the consequences of whatever the hell people have left on items at the store, etc.
27:54, that was the most genuine "SHIT!", I've ever seen from Gordon, he was absolutely appalled and disgusted. That was the first time you could see in his eyes that he doubted whether he could even finish the episode.
Despite how horrible the restaurant was, the support he provided for his wife was great. They really connected together as a couple, even when shit hit the fan.
Gordon with servers has got to be the best parts of these videos, u can tell he rlly appreciates the staff that have to work in those horrible conditions
To be fair, I wouldn’t say he’s being dramatic 😂 it is completely understandable to be that flabbergasted, bamboozled, and speckledorfed once the guy said “We cleaned for 5 days!”
I know! I was a hospital nurse and I was appalled at all the food, etc they were contaminating by touch. Plus all the liquids draining on the floor & don't get me started on that cooler! How could they pass inspection?
I’m surprised that with all of Gordon’s experience helping out so many failing Restaurants that he doesn’t inspect their refrigerators before tasting their food.
I reckon the TV studio does a quick inspection themselves to make sure it won't kill him but won't let Gordon do it himself or he'd refuse to taste the food. Let's be honest, watching Gordon doing the tasting is the most entertaining part
@@gokuxsephiroth4505 he stopped doing this show because of his stomach problems it caused. I doubt that anyone checked these kitchens before tasting food xD
@@archaiahp Not at all true,I don't know where you got that from but a quick Internet search reveals that Gordon stopped kitchen nightmares because he was fed up with all the shit he got from owners he was trying to help. They were in the shit and asked for his help but when he told them the truth they didn't like it and called him out for being nasty and instead of taking his advice would fight him all the way with their egos instead of humbly excepting that he's the expert and should be listened to. There is an interview in which he explains this
They always say stuff like, "People are still going here, so the food could _not_ be that bad!" Dude, if you have got so few customers you need to take loans and remortgage all of your assets in order to not go bankrupt, it actually is that bad.
Yep. Some people just have very low standards. If you can make better food at home its not usually worth paying for at marked up prices. Let alone those poor souls eating in that restaurant not knowing the conditions in the kitchen/fridge 🤢
Chef Ramsey really does have such a good heart. I’ll never meet these people, but seeing Chef help them pick themselves up from rock bottom nearly brings me to tears. Thank you Chef and all employees who were involved with this show, you made a difference in peoples lives.
Gordon is never afraid to make his hands dirty, especially in storage areas where some of the food is oozing on the shelf and inside the packaging, where the area changes from a food storage to a garbage basket.
Personally, I am absolutely shocked that places HALF as horrific are allowed to be open and running. The amount of people who have probably gotten seriously sick from restaurants like this one without knowing why, it really scares me 😬🤢
Well, it does not wonder me, but even in the EU self exists such Kitchens, and Germany or France aren't expectations. But a whole Restaurant like this… Whew. It's not for a usual Broadcasting time, this episode (reffering to Pro7Maxx - and yes, only cases which even would happen in Germany (here) would be broadcasted.) Well… this isn't describeable anymore, but from when is this original Episode? 2008-2010?

i’m convinced it was Randy’s and Alexa had no connection to it. the way he talked about it had such creepy undertones and she had no qualms about getting rid of it.
I’ve watched a ton of those Hoarder shows and they always have a psychiatrist trying to work with them and have the throwing away of items be voluntary. Gordon shows up and is like eff that everybody just start tossing shit. 😂
I know right! He even got the guy to pull the lever on the destruction truck and he had a smile on his face while doing it 😅 Makes you wonder about the hoarder show lol
Some people need to work slowly and others need to be shocked right tf out of it. I'm related to hoarders. They'd probably implode if a mouthy Brit suddenly started trashing their stuff lmao
Well, there’s a difference between having it be your own home, and a restaurant where there’s other people. This sort of situation isn’t a hey, let’s ease you into the process and work on it slowly, it’s a whole come to Jesus moment before someone dies from a disease they contracted after eating there. Between the mold, the rats, the cross contamination with raw meat, the spoiled meat, and you know all that cream was not stored at a proper temperature or sealed right either, it would be a miracle if no one had been sent to the hospital with extreme food poisoning or worse after going there, and that can easily kill someone. But also, I imagine it would be easy to come home with bedbugs or lice after eating there since there’s old upholstery that never gets cleaned, and all it would take is one person who doesn’t know they’ve got them yet. With the hoarder shows, they’re addressing issues with people’s homes where the residents are the only ones at risk due to all the health hazards, but for a restaurant, these people are putting others at risk every day.
The Old Neighborhood Restaurant was up for sale when this episode was filmed in July 2013. After the episode aired, the owners increased the asking price to $775,000. The owners eventually sold the restaurant and closed their doors on 1 May 2016. Wow, so they got their restaurant completely renovated with brand new equipment worth thousands of dollars, which they didn’t pay for, & then sold the place. I guess that’s better than the alternative which would’ve been them continuing to cross contaminate & let it get filthy again.
That Kitchen add at least 100,000 dollars to the value and the Redecorating with Gordon Ramsay personal touches State of the art, equipment! Pans, knives but I wish he would have tore up the carpet!
The show might have some contract clause where they have to return equipment and such if they went out of business or sold or payback something. However, I think they knew they wanted to get out of the business if the building was already up for sale.
I think Gordon's reaction at 27:37 is probably one of the times he's genuinely stunned beyond belief at the level of shit the restaurant's at, and how much digging he'll have to do.
18:02 Gordon: You keep your dirty shoes under the banquette? Randy: They're not mine. Gordon: Did the customer die? There's holes in the sole! Dirty, crusty shoes... Ugh!

Welcome to grandma's house was the mic drop😂
Super cute too
There is a brewery/pint room in Denver called Grandma's House and it markets itself on that decor and atmosphere. Beer is good, they host knitting clubs, there are doileys everywhere, beer is good, and the TVs are CRT with old video game systems and tournaments for like N64 Mario Kart and Tetris.
If you go into it marketing it like that, it could succeed. Also CLEAN.

In my country we have random inspections from health inspectors every year. I'm surprised they don't!
@@thewillowtree727There are health inspections just like that here in the US. The problem I’ve noticed is in small towns that are farther away from major cities. They seem to be forgotten and get away with more. 😬

Makes me wish Gordon would show up at my grandma's 😑😑
Seriously, Gordon's immune system needs to be studied and I'm sure it could solve a lot of uncurable diseases.
