I respect the attempt of a sorta successor to The SEGA Nomad but why did they go with a + Cross Style D-Pad when Mega Drive / Genesis is known for a Radial D-Pad 🤔

Neocade and Evercade are not from the same company. Neocade is made by BlazePro (one word company) while Evercade is made by Blaze Entertainment (two words company). Two different companies even though both had support from Piko Interactive.
I bought something similar from aliexpress. Plays megadrive but only a select genesis carts. Since it just mentions megadrive and the disclaimer on the back of the cart, it'd probably play most megadrive carts.
Interesting. Ive always...since GB had a bad habit of tilting my handhelds almost horizontal so a bad screen is a total deal breaker for me. I'll stick with my RGB30

I get you could reshell this cart in some of those EA genesis carts. Like those old sports games that are worth nothing so not a major loss to use it to fit in a genesis right.
Compare to the AtGames one, this one doesn't look that bad. I actually like the sleek design, my only gripe is that the d-pad is not a rolling d-pad like on a real Sega Genesis controller. That screen on the otherhand looks bad, it's one of those wash out backlit screen that couldn't stay stable from any other position but center.
I wasted my money on this thing hoping it would play my MegaDrive V3 cartridge, all I get is an error message. Now I just have to get an old NOMAD for $300+ then mod it and end up spending nearly $500. I swear as a SEGA fan I'm so disappointed how lazy they are for not doing anything their fans actually want like a damn Dreamcast Mini or a a New Nomad at least.
It's hard to tell, but maybe it really doesn't like Genesis shells and really wants a Mega Drive shell? Also a shame the screen is so bad. I'm still hanging on for something that is super authentic to original hardware in a handheld, and not necessarily the Analogue Pocket.
Oh I actually did try that and mentioned the power draw thing and redid all my testing but cut it out as the video was going on very long for what this all was lol, thats why at one point you see I have the system plugged into power, I tried it at that point and it didnt work... just doesnt like any of my not original cartridges lol.

Judging by the form factor of the included cartridge, you need to put Megadrive, asian-style, carts. PAL and Genesis won’t work but maybe a converter launches the game on the handheld ?
The ROM names on the box sides are laughably bad, worth pausing the video just to soak them all in. You can tell some sweatshop worker just screencapped his ROM folder and spit the results out in an AI text grabber. Blazepro has distributed many other questionable gray market items in the past like the horrible Super UFO 8 SNES flash cart (based on 90`s floppy copier tech) and the Western release of Unholy Night for SNES. I guess this is their attempt to rebrand some e-waste handheld and make a legal entry into the market.
At 11:12, To run jap or american and uk carts, Simple Take the top of that genesis and cut the side plastic of bother sides, And now the carts will all fit and run great, I did this on my uk megadrive at the time, A great way to run japanese games like devil crash etc ! 😇

This device most likely only plays Japanese Mega Drive carts since the cartridge shell is modeled after the Japanese MD cartridge shells.

You should try the everdrive while it's plugged in to power. It's a power hog.

That's a shame. Since you can get retro handhelds that can emulate these consoles with ease (since they're the easiest to emulate) with an IPS screen.
