Omg my husband recently passed away and being a retired old lady on a strict budget you are the best!! Thank you so much! I won't freeze or get soaked anymore! Bless you Sir!
Hey Man, I went to the dealership to ask them to do this for me. They said they didn’t have anyone to help me. In two minutes you made it happen for me. Great job…! Thank you so much…!!!!!
You think the stealership was going to help you and miss out on ripping you off for a big pay day.i don’t know what stealership you deem as honorable, but I don’t know of any.
This is genius. I spent 2 hours trying to get my window to go back up aftwr it got atuck down, after watching multiple other videos i found and nothing was working. I found this one and poof, window up! Thank you!!
I've always felt that car manufacturers should provide a backup, where you can pop off a small plastic cover, and slip an old style window crank on to roll the windows up and down. Then you have time to get it fixed and just pop the cover back on, and put the crank handle back in the glove box. 😉
I think rover did this back in the seventies. I previously owned an Alfa Romeo 916 spider with a electrically operated roof which had an override switch so it could be operated manually if the motors, gearing, or both failed. Which of course they did🤣
Good video. What we usually do for a quick temp solution is poppin out the switch from the other door and swapping it just to get the window into a position till we get another switch. Its abt 5 min to take both out, switch it, roll up or down then swap them back. The olds silhouette and chevy ventures are Famous for switches goin out. In fact we started getting extras from junkyard for $4 each bus 45 at autozone. They last abt as long as the new ones. Dont even matter which one, as we have 6 in the fam, ALL of them do it occasionally. Good video, same principles. Good luck everyone.
That works if the connector is same. But on most of my vehicles the master switch wire harness connector is way different than all the other door switches. But yeah this can work if the switches have same plug in. For people like me tho what this guys just showed works (unless your motor is dead) which this vid also rules out at same time 🤙
Thank you for this advice. It's so refreshing when some people want to help others for the sake of helping others. Your advice is very helpful in avoiding expensive dealership service fees.
Just want you to know there are a few of us non mechanical and electrical types who managed to grasp that by ‘manually closing the window’ you meant manually by passing the switch. Once that was pointed out to me, it suddenly became crystal clear! 🙄 Good video, well done!
Not a good vido as you said he did not manually close it. So he shouldn't post his thumb-nail like he did. Those of us that know how to troubleshoot a switch and check for power don't need his silly-ass video. I clicked on to see if that can be done and I don't think it can with out discounting the elect motor. And that is what holds it I think not sure I'm not a auto mec I'm a retired electrician.
@@scottscoville1118 Do you really not understand what I wrote? If so, if the elec. motor is burn up it does not matter if the switch is good or bad. All he did was jumper across the wires taking the switch out of the system. You would have 3 wires one hot and two switch legs you touch the hot to one window goes up touch the other window goes down. Like I said he did not show how to manually move the window he showed how to see if it was a bad motor or switch. That is if he has checked the fuse first cause if the fuse is blown its probably a bad motor or a short to ground. If you disconnect the switch and it still blows the fuse it's a dead short to ground. If not it's the switch or the motor. That's why I said it was a bad video all he showed was how to jump out a switch.
Great idea and procedure on how to bypass the switch. No damage can be done as you said.you either light the test light or operate the motor. Big thumbs 👍up
I LOVE you for making this video!! I am sitting in the parking lot at work wondering how I can get my window back up. What am I going to do when I get home to my apt with no garage to park in??? What if it rains??? Right at the beginning you point out that my passenger side has two separate controls!!! You are a genius! TY! TY! TY! You just saved this single broad ☺️
Thanks for that video, On a few occasions, with a few different friend's, and myself having a switch problem, I have unplugged the switch, sprayed the male and female contacts with WD-40, and they worked once again. Cause of the problem was rain water on the switches. Now when I get a new car with power lock and window switches, I am sure to coat them in good old Water Displacement-40 to prevent it from happening.
Thanks much...Window decided to go out just before a winter storm is moving in. And your fix has work. Thanks for the advise on how to keep the snow out : )
Thanks I made the lead with a flasher bulb and window was going up and down no problem when I connected to the correct connectors, so shows my switch is faulty, so have ordered one now, thanks again, great tip 👍
Thank you so much!I opened the window on a hot day after a friend told me that the window does not go up.And this video saved me from looking like more of a fool.He gave me a wierd look for slamming his door hard. But hey at least the wi dow is up lol.

Worked like a charm> the quickest and less complicated way by far. Fixed all three windows in about 30 minutes and there is no way to mess up, only two pins, up or down!!!!
Hi, just for asking, did you open the panel up for each switch on each window and do it individually that way? I'm about try to do this on my front passenger side of my Honda. Thanks in advance.
@@EverydayMechanic Didn't work just with the probe. However I found the negative and then put the light's clip end in that and the probe end in a different one and found one that lit up. Then I pulled the switch up and the light went on and off each time I pulled on the switch. The window didn't move but I'm not sure what to assess from this.
Hi i would say your switch is working fine i would niw look inside the door card and asses if power is making its way to the motor and if the motor is getting power but not moving it would be easy to assume the motor has failed but even then would be best to test motor for resistance before assuming motor has failed
I was mad at first because it didn't work for me. I also saw how you were sticking the wires in empty slots. But then i remembered that you have to find the positive first and then complete the circuit. And it worked after 30 minutes of trying to find better grounds. Maybe on some models this work, but mine is an 06 navigator and had to complete the circuit. Thanks either way. My car won't get filled with water.
It's really nice for you to show me that that is awesome cuz I made a mistake and used the wire Sparks didn't mess anything up though it's all good thank you once again good video
The reason the bulb is a good idea is it provides a resistor, the bulb itself, to ground. If there is no resistor and you bypass a power directly to ground you've created a short and can damage the electrical system of the car. At best it might blow a fuse, at worse it could fry a computer module and/or burn up a wire harness.

Good vid! Probably should have told them to try plugging the wiring harness back into the switch a few times too. (plug it in, unplug it, plug it in unplug it).. Often the contacts on the switches will get corroded or just tarnished from the Damp or having things spilled down the door handle and by RE-Seating the switch a few times you just might get it to make a fresh contact. If you do you should gently try to remove the entire unit from the door and clean off the pins on the switches with a piece of steel wool or even a pencil eraser if it will fit on the switch contacts. (Or just leave it plugged in until the next time it quits working and just re-seat it again and hope for the best.).
