  • Amanda Champany believes that that there is a place for traditional knowledge in gifted education. The current western, middle class ideal of intelligence, emphasizing linguistic abilities, limits the diversity within gifted programs. This limits society’s ability to access and enhance culturally specify intelligence, which bring about creative solutions to future problems. By building an ideal gifted classroom, we can begin to build ideal schools that honor the contributions of all students.
Amanda Champany has lived in the border towns of Northern New Mexico, the Bay Area, Denver, England and South Korea and has enjoyed experiencing the traditions of each location.

Maybe you want to focus on the bigger picture, involving parents, administrators, etc. Great talk, the scope could have been wider (from someone recently educated in gifted ed.) Acceleration wasn't mentioned at all.

Blacks on one side, whites on the other. A few mixed tables here and there.

the truest part of her speech was her comments on how a gifted student may behave in a classroom setting. Thankfully the "argumentative" part has only added value to my classes.

"teachers worst nightmare". Are you the right teacher for this kid? Does the kid benefit from your courses?

The word "gifted" should be banned. Call it "performers" and let in all those who can perform exceptionally in academic tests. That's what it's about. People who work hard and will be super-productive members of society, self-starting and naturally curious, able to compete with all those other countries performing rings around us. We are doomed unless we get real.

Albert Einstein was not a performer, he was a thinker. He did not do well in primary school or college. He thought it would have been better if he wasn't born at all. His principal said he wouldn't amount to anything.
