Thanks for your thoughtful comments. We really try to take a real world approach to testing cars. We figure if you want all of the details you can get it from the manufacturers web site or the tons of other reviews on and off line.
Which is why the 2014 model 2.0 N/A was bumped up to 173 HP. I use a 2014 GT for a commuter. It gets out of its own way, merges respectfully and still maintain over a 30 mpg average. Can’t complain.
Your reviews are informative and comical and I'll continue to watch them. Of course, I don't expect to get all the information about a car in an 8 minute video but there are other internet sources for that. Wish some comments weren't from users who take themselves so seriously.
Glad you mentioned the sunroof. I think that feature, all of the standard equipment and a good stereo can lift a car into a different segment. I like it, and IDK, I think Nathan does too. Just love your fun reviews and your devotion. Lots of love from Cali boys!
I see your point - but we are misleading no one. Look, if I am looking at a hatchback that has "GT" on it, I would assume it's cut from a slightly higher performing cloth then the regular model. The Elantra GT does handle better than the Coupe and sedan, but it's priced too high. That's the bottom line, it's right up there with higher performing cars and would be cross-shopped with other vehicles in its price. Thanks for watching.
In most of their videos, Nathan or Roman say numerous times that this 0-60 test is more of a realistic test. You're not always going to be alone in the car, or at the perfect altitude for 0-60's.
Great video as usual. The way you try to inject some personality and fun to the reviews puts you above what others are dong. As for the price comparison your reasoning makes sense. In Canada the MS3 and GTI are in a completely different price bracket, both starting just under 30k. The GT starts at 19k and the trim with the sunroof starts at 21k with a few less bells and whistles than you tested. That makes the GT much more affordable for me. Hopefully the rumours of getting the turbo come true.
Yes, but at over $23,000 as-tested - the Elantra GT is financially in the GTI and Mazdaspeed3's territory. We like the Elantra and think it's a good ride. I would rather pay a grand or so more for more power. Thanks for watching!
I actually picked up my Elantra GT over the weekend. I pretty much got the second cheapest one they had at the dealership and my buddy haggled a really good lease payment. I went with an auto over a manual because of the amount of daily driving I do and constantly shifting 6 gears to get the best fuel economy would be too much of a hassle. I believe for a lower-end trim, you can't beat the value of their more base models. I have to say: it's a great value for leasing a fuel efficient hatchback.
I just picked one up yesterday 10 years later and it's still an amazing little car, it's my first new car that I bought, mine the 2014 but I opted for a six-speed instead of an auto, and it's an amazing little car
Did you try the comfort mode in a parking lot? I think you would notice it more in a slower setting. As far as EPS's go, most "naturally" firm up at higher speeds...
This car is meant to compete with cars like the Vokswagen Golf (not the GTI) and the Mazda 3 hatchback. Not what Roman and Nathan mentioned. I do like this car for what it is.
Agreed, it competes with the base VW Golf, Ford Focus hatch and the regular Mazda3. There's rumors that Hyundai might drop in the turbo engine from the Veloster Turbo sometime in the future.
Although I don't agree with "2valiumland" demeanour, I will concur on saying that comparing this car with a Golf GTI or Speed 3 is inaccurate. Its only in the USA the car is named Elantra "GT", in the domestic market and the rest of the world, its called the Hyundai i30, competing with the Toyota Auris/Corolla, Golf, Mazda 3 and so on.
I would love for you guys to do a vs of some of the economy hatches on the market now. I really liked what you get for the money on this Elantra Gt. the warranty looks good to. Also would love to see a prius 2 vs golf tdi vs ford c-max comparison. I really value your perspective on what makes a car worth owning and if its enjoyable to drive.
I have to agree with the majority of the comments here. This car is not a competitor to the Speed3 or GTI making your case to another comment where you said "We didn't stick a GT badge on the back of this economy car" irrelevant. The car is really just the GT or "sporty" version of the... wait for it... Elantra so in that mindset the badge fits. I highly doubt people will be cross-shopping the Elantra GT with the Speed 3 or GTI.
It's not a bad review, this was something I was kind of looking at originally. But the MazdaSpeed 3 and GTI aren't really in the same grade. You should really have compared it to the Mazda 3 and VW Gulf. The Elantra GT starts at around $18500 which is right where the Mazda3 5-door starts, and about 1500 less than a Golf. It's a good review I just think you may have just seen GT and $24K and compared it to the wrong stuff.
I like my Elantra GT. Sure it doesn't scream of the line, but how quickly do you need to go 0-30 in the city anyway. We test drove the Mazda 3 before leasing this one and felt that it did have more power but felt kinda cheaply made. The overall fit and finish of the Elantra GT is pretty nice. Love the leather and the dash is well laid out. You didn't show all of the space this car has by folding down the rear seats. There is a lot! The panoramic sunroof is sweet!
Well, I'll start off by saying that I've put just about 6600 miles on it already as I happen to deliver food in it unfortunately. But personally, I'm very comfortable driving in it all the time. Quietness is kind of relative to the street conditions and I don't drive with the windows up most of the time. But when I do, overall I don't notice a problem with it being that loud when I drive. Also the engine is quiet. Almost too quiet. I sometimes turn the ignition to start again by accident.
The problem is in the new cars the gt insignia means nothing, only the extras on equipment, not in the real important thing, the engine and the handling.
Hi... I'm seriously considering getting this as my next car. Is the cabin quiet? Are the seats comfortable ( i'm thinking longer distances)? Thanks for any feedback nssone! :- )
Thanks for calling us a "douche". Wow now you're Troll of the Month. BTW: you may want to write Nissan and explain your "conventional automotive nomenclature" theory to them as they seem to have completely misnamed the GT-R as did Ford and of course Ferrari.
I think they named it the GT since the Elantra hatchback few years ago was called Elantra GT. That thing did not have enough power either. uh.. you could easily put in the V6 out of Tiburon, tho :D
I think because the name is a trade mark in the U.S as it is/was taken by Infiniti which they used to have a model I30 from mid 90's I think to early 2000's, so nobody else can take the name.
Another idea might be to #1) replace standard airfilter with a K n N filter. #2) Use a well- known synthetic oil instead of a conventional oil & #3) put in an 8 or 12 oz container of octane booster right before testing. I recently had my oil changed on my 2017 elantra limited and requested synthetic this time- and what a difference the synthetic makes over time....im getting 1 mpg better in the city using the same driving habits and almost 2 mpg better on highway, using 'eco' mode at the same speed (70mph).....i have also started using non-ethanol gasoline.......I cant wait for my results- Ive already put 65 miles on this full tank and the needle hasnt moved off of full yet. Usually it will budge a little after 50 miles. Im still running 93 octane booster and I still have the K n N filter in the engine. Ill keep you posted.👍👍
Thumbs up if you think Hyundai should take the Veloster Turbo engine and drop it into this car and the Elantra Coupe! Pretty awesome Civic SI and GTI fighter for sure!
Ok, maybe I was a little harsh. I apologize, I'm not a troll, just a car geek. I stand by my assessment, though--you assert that the car competes with the GTI and the MazdaSpeed, and I assure you, you are the only people on the planet who do. Really. The car competes with the SkyActiv and the Golf. Just because two cars are a thousand dollars apart in price does not mean they are competing for the same buyer. Otherwise a base Camry would be competing with a loaded Fiat 500.
I see your point with the GT badge too, and I understand it better now. But it's just for the name, really :/ Hyundai's making a bad move by selling it like that. It drives better, 'cos it's a different car (a very good one if priced correctly). And if it is like it is, the Golf is a much better choice. I can't even believe that a Hyundai i30 is pricier than a VW Golf. And a GTI even! But the market is like that sometimes. Keep it up the good work guys! :)
I do like the rims...It's different, it's just not boring silver painted rims, like every other cars out there and hyundai tries to be different. I could like this car much more if hyundai build a turbo version like the veloster with 200 HP.
I think that even if they are leveled price-wise, it's still not the same category of cars. I don't think Hyundai's intention to compete with the likes of Golf GTI's, nor Mazdaspeed3's either. Globally the Elantra GT (I30 in other parts of the world) is just a hatchback, not a hot one. I usually really like your reviews, guys, but I think it's kinda deceiving to some viewers to have this comparison. And if Hyundai's trying to sell this with that idea, it's just bad marketing and a bad deal.
Fine, but that's your choice, and not a legitimate means for comparison. A base Toyota Camry might be a grand more than a loaded Fiat 500, but does that mean buyers are going to be comparing or cross-shopping? That $24,000 VW GTI you're touting also has two doors and 10 mpg less, city and highway both. It's a totally different market niche.
I agree, and not a big fan of the large black 'mouth' of the GT, luckily the lower trims are more conventional and are the same as other Elantra body styles.
Le Thien Phu To then i guess my dealers here just suck, lol. i was looking over the gt and saw only 1.8? bit seriously the manual trans and the 1.6 turbo would make that car a beast
Впервые увидел Elantra в этом кузове, в России продают только седаны. А машина да интересная и много опций. Но думаю новая Audi A3 будет лучше чем Elantra
Having revisited my comment, I do admit it comes of trollishly, and I do apologize for that. However, I stand by my criticism. You're comparing a top of the range Elantra to a stripper GTI or Mazdaspeed 3, and no one is cross-shopping those models. To get similar equipment on a GTI or 3 would be closer to $28,000. Everyone knows the difference between a hot hatch and a Korean "GT." You act like Hyundai is trying to hoodwink people.
Thanks for your thoughtful comments. We really try to take a real world approach to testing cars. We figure if you want all of the details you can get it from the manufacturers web site or the tons of other reviews on and off line.
Just bought one for my 16 y.o. daughter and she loves it.Great first car, lots of room.
HI Bob, It sounds like you might want to test drive the car if you are seriously considering buying it.
Which is why the 2014 model 2.0 N/A was bumped up to 173 HP. I use a 2014 GT for a commuter. It gets out of its own way, merges respectfully and still maintain over a 30 mpg average. Can’t complain.
Just pick one up yesterday and I have no complaints
It was meant as compliment---you and Roman are THE car review characters.....
Your reviews are informative and comical and I'll continue to watch them. Of course, I don't expect to get all the information about a car in an 8 minute video but there are other internet sources for that. Wish some comments weren't from users who take themselves so seriously.

I have the 2016 GT with 2LT 173Hp . I think under 10Sec. Is possible .
I have the same with a manual and I know I can go faster than 10 seconds 0 to 60.
this isn't meant't to compete against the speed3 or gti, it's mean't to compete against the regular golf and the regular 3.
Great video as usual. The way you try to inject some personality and fun to the reviews puts you above what others are dong. As for the price comparison your reasoning makes sense. Hopefully the rumours of getting the turbo come true.
Could you guys put up the Lexus video tonight instead of waiting for tomorrow?!?
those rims are actually pretty good-looking, honestly. I hate full chrome rims but that looks really classy imo.
Yes, but at over $23,000 as-tested - the Elantra GT is financially in the GTI and Mazdaspeed3's territory. We like the Elantra and think it's a good ride. I would rather pay a grand or so more for more power. Thanks for watching!

One of your best reviews.
Did you try the comfort mode in a parking lot? I think you would notice it more in a slower setting. As far as EPS's go, most "naturally" firm up at higher speeds...
I own one and it really is a decent car for its price. However the trade off is gas milage to hp. Car is slow but it will out run a smart car ;)
This is meant to compete against economy cars. Not Mazda 3speeds or gtis or anything else with over 200hp. It is a fuel efficient car that looks good.
Its a very nice car, I've driven it.
There's rumors that Hyundai might drop in the turbo engine from the Veloster Turbo sometime in the future.
what would have happened if you manually shifted the automatic?
Although I don't agree with "2valiumland" demeanour, I will concur on saying that comparing this car with a Golf GTI or Speed 3 is inaccurate. Its only in the USA the car is named Elantra "GT", in the domestic market and the rest of the world, its called the Hyundai i30, competing with the Toyota Auris/Corolla, Golf, Mazda 3 and so on.
0-60 should be done with only one driver and did you have the shifter in sport mode? It should shift at the red line if you did.
YOU GOTTA LOVE THE SAAB T-SHIRT
I would love for you guys to do a vs of some of the economy hatches on the market now. I really liked what you get for the money on this Elantra Gt. the warranty looks good to. How would you rate this vs the Kia Forte SX hatch. Maybe a mashup or comparo? Please....
It's not a bad review, this was something I was kind of looking at originally. But the MazdaSpeed 3 and GTI aren't really in the same grade. I believe that Hyundai is thinking about adding a performance spec level for both the Coupe and GT.
I like my Elantra GT. Sure it doesn't scream of the line, but how quickly do you need to go 0-30 in the city anyway. Agree, Love that Paranamic Sunroof for the price range of this car!!
Hi...
I'm seriously considering getting this as my next car.
Is the cabin quiet?
Are the seats comfortable ( i'm thinking longer distances)?
Thanks for any feedback nssone! :- )
Forget the stop watch. When testing vehicles like this do what my gym teacher used to do when timing my 100 yard dash. He used a calendar.
Is it quiet inside the cabin?
Thanks.
Cant you guys shift it manually and get it to redline@ each shift???? Im sure 0-60 time would be a little slower......ya think?
LS-F or S8?
Why didn't Hyundai kept the i30 name?
I personally hate exhaust pipes sticking out, and the wheels are great.
Nathan I LOVE YOUR SHIRT!!!!!
Thanks for calling us a "douche". Wow now you're Troll of the Month. BTW: you may want to write Nissan and explain your "conventional automotive nomenclature" theory to them as they seem to have completely misnamed the GT-R as did Ford and of course Ferrari.

Can you guys test a 2013 civic si coupe? Or even any civic si coupe from 2007-2013 doesn't matter
I really dig the music in this review.
Ok, So this Hyundai Elantra GT or The TurboCharged Chevy Sonic RS, Anyone? Which would you buy!!!
The Elentra GT is meant to be a affordable hatch for people who don't want the Elantra coupe or sedan, not a performance hatchback
It went slower. Seriously, it won't allow for red-line shifting and it changed gears for me. The manual should be faster. Thanks for watching!
the front end is not identical to the coupe and the sedan...not much for attention to detail, are ya boys?
were u `got that saab shirt i want one

@5:26 what is that sound?
Thumbs up if you think Hyundai should take the Veloster Turbo engine and drop it into this car and the Elantra Coupe! Pretty awesome Civic SI and GTI fighter for sure!

Oh and that was hilarious at the beginning with nathan in the boot...
It's not supposed to be a hot hatch, just a hatch.
Their humor is of the "uncool dad" variety. It is a car review after all, not a comedy reel.
You guys really think that was made to compete with the Mazdaspeed3 or a GTI? Try a Focus hatchback or a standard Mazda3. Duh...
Thanks David!
I see your point with the GT badge too, and I understand it better now. But it's just for the name, really :/ Hyundai's making a bad move by selling it like that. Keep it up the good work guys! :)
Seems mazda3 is a better choice for the price. More performance, higher mpg. Unless u really want the sunroof.
smily front grill design with big black plastic piece looks like it came from the Mazda 3
I do like the rims...It's different, it's just not boring silver painted rims, like every other cars out there and hyundai tries to be different. I could like this car much more if hyundai build a turbo version like the veloster with 200 HP.
what kind of GT has less then 150 hp?! i mean this is a good car, but the only issue is someone naming it "gt".
automatic? What is sport about a four cylinder with an automatic. use a manual and shed a full second to 60mph
I think that even if they are leveled price-wise, it's still not the same category of cars. I don't think Hyundai's intention to compete with the likes of Golf GTI's, nor Mazdaspeed3's either. I like the way it looks, but Hyundai should really consider throwing their 2.0t in it.
I agree, and not a big fan of the large black 'mouth' of the GT, luckily the lower trims are more conventional and are the same as other Elantra body styles.
the front looks amazing, but the rear tail lights look really ugly
this car needs the 1.6 turbo or the 2.0 forte engine. but no. who wants to be competitive now?
Deadpool I have a Gt 2014 and I actually have the 2.0 Motor
Le Thien Phu To then i guess my dealers here just suck, lol. i was looking over the gt and saw only 1.8? bit seriously the manual trans and the 1.6 turbo would make that car a beast
Deadpool haha maybe it's a add on with the 2014 version!
Haha elantra gt turbo!!
Dude just enjoy the humor and their daily videos. Stop nit-picking
i agree 100%
Exactly. Why can't I say it nicely like you?
Hyundai needs to take the turbo 1.6 liter from the Veloster turbo and add it to this model. I rather have the four door model.
its hyundai i30, not elantra
Yet another voice of agreement. And a "duh!"
totaly agree w/you. Drove an S8 last week, hoooooly shit.
Is Nathan screwing that vehicle?
S8... 100% S8!
i love the tshirt SAAB
That's wonderful.
s600/s63amg/65AMG!
They should have called it the I30 as they do here in Israel and avoided the whole problem.
Just smack a turbo and your good to go, It would rip a new one on the GTI and Mazdaspeed3!!
Впервые увидел Elantra в этом кузове, в России продают только седаны. А машина да интересная и много опций. Но думаю новая Audi A3 будет лучше чем Elantra
koreans are stepping up
Yes, me too
better value compares to it's competitors!
Anyone with a properly functioning foot can get that car to 60 in 10 seconds.
Great!

Don't want him to watch my kids throw them in the back
Thanks - I think..
almost 13 s but notice it is uphill...most tests are on the level hahaha
