Thanks for the thoughtful comments. We actually run the 0-60 MPH test about a half a dozen times with different launch technics to get the fastest possible time. However we can't change the fact that we are @ 1 Mile above Sea level and that car magazines 0-60 MPH times are done under perfect conditions that are almost impossible to replicate in the real world.
It's a 2-door economy car people. Not a sports car. If you want something affordable and attractive with 2 doors, here is your car. If you want something with power that sacrifices economy, check out the Genesis coupe.
I have to say, my girlfriend bought a 2012 Elantra Sedan. I have spent a considerable amount of time behind the wheel, and I continue to be impressed with it. I have driven BMW's, MB's, and even Porsches. Naturally, all those DO blow it out of the water in power. However, Hyundai has clearly come a long way since their early days. Even the 2012 feels tight and responsive in comparison to the luxury stuff, and at a third of the cost. You can expect more than what you pay for. But here, you do.
They should have used the same engine as the one the new Forte's have, but I guess since it was originally in the Veloster, maybe they opted to give it the less powerful engine.
We'll have a written review of the new Santa Fe on TFLcar.com next week. You'll have to wait a bit on the video as Hyundai didn't invite us to the press launch this week.
I bought the Elantra Coupe, and it's not a fast car, but I'm in love with the handling and the looks of the car, about economy, mmm i don't know, I'm from Chile so for us a car that returns "30" mpg (in my case does a little more than 23 mpg) is not a economy car lol. Anyway the Elantra Coupe is a AWESOME car... Greetings from Chile
True. Roman and I both like the regular FIAT 500 and we love the Abarth. I think the power to mpg balance will be fully addressed with the FIAT 500 Turbo which will slot in between the regular 500 and the Abarth. Roman and I think the GTI is one of the best cars in its class. Thanks for watching!
You CAN have a sporty car while getting 39 MPG HWY if you car has a Diesel Engine! PS I have a suggestion for TFL group, If you want less criticize about your 0-60 tests, put your left foot on the break, while pushing the gas with your other foot, I am very confident that the wheel-spin in the beginning will give people a better feeling about your 0-60 tests!
I love your videos but I just want to make a few points....... You didn't talk about the ride or the rear seat or storage space or price or technology. I enjoy your videos and I love your channel, I just wanted to put some constructive criticism out there.
You didnt get the point!!! I am saying you can get good gas milage, 40 mpg, while having plenty of power if driven right. The performance of any car is dependent on the driver.
Thanks for the link but the video is completely useless. No clue what car, what road, what elevation, or what 0-60 time. I'm sorry but once again we're taking comments from 12-year-olds way too seriously. Lesson learned.
I don't care what this guy has to say about the Elantra. It has more power than others in its class. Obviously, it is a very nice looking vehicle as well. The steering wheel has a bit of a centering issue occasionally, but nothing that can't be dealt. That really is my only issue with the car. These guys need to drive a Genesis Coupe if they are looking for a sports car. You can take 148HP and expect a screamer. I have yet to see it happen anyway. Plus, who tests these with an automatic anyway?
I just bought one of these. I choose the coupe over the sedan because the coupe gave me 17" allow wheels, leather interior, heated front seats, heated mirrors, power tilt-and-slide moonroof, fog lights and turn signal lights on the mirrors...all features that are not available on the Sedan unless you purchase the 'Limited' trim and even then...I saved about $2,000 on the coupe. Hyundai accomplished their goal...there are alot of 'Creature Comforts' in this car. It's not a sports car.
You never actually really push your car limits to 60 MPH right after the red light. The point of 0-60 test is to investigate about your car's acceleration. There have been a lot of criticize for TFL 0-60 test from people, I just made a suggestion, I'm sure wheelspin will give people more confidence that TFL guys are really pushing the cars to their limits. PS, I think Nathan changes gear better than Roman in Manual cars...sorry Roman!
this is not ment to be a civic si fighter. Its for the person who is considering to buy a Scion tC, Honda Civic Coupe, Kia Forte Coupe, and maybe VW Golf (3-door). So the lack of power is expected and putting the Veloster turbos engine is more likely than the sonata's or the genesis' 2.0T
Well and I'm not necessarily talking about THIS car, but all small, sporty cars in general. Many reviewers give the Fiat 500 bad reviews simply because of the "lack" of power. Yet, it IS a sporty car. Even more so if you get the Sport model. Other cars get the same cons from reviewers such as: the Hyundai Veloster, Scion FRS/Subaru BRZ, and you could even go as far to include the Volkswagen GTI as others in its class have more power.
I agree with you about diesel engines and I would love to see more in America. The problem here is the price of diesel is much higher than gas. To make things worse the diesel fuel is really low quality and filled with sulfur so it smells horrible coming out of the tail pipe. Some places here have started offering low sulfur diesel but that's still not even close to the quality of diesel in other countries and it's even more expensive than the already expensive diesel.
These car manufacturers need to wake up and make up their minds, either make it sporty or make it economicle, you cant have both and when you try everyone is dissapointed. Another fail from an auto company but another win for Roman and TFL. Good Vid
That grill.... people talk about Acura's, but it looks like a large chunk of the grill's missing off this one. I know it's there and what it looks like up close, but from far away it looks like part of the car is missing before it's even left the lot.
Roman, they should've had an Elantra Turbo in a coupe. The engine would be the same like the Veloster Turbo; however, Hyundai wants those who want more power ian original economy car to purchase the Veloster Turbo. It's like another Kia Forte Koup.
Actually you can get good performance and 39mpg on the highway. I have heard that with the new 328i people have been getting 40 on the highway and I am sure that car would SMOKE this little Hyundai. I know the people getting 40mpg are doing their absolute best to get that milage, but it is still possible.
Why does a car have to be fast to be sporty? I understand the fact the suspension hasn't been dialed in correctly and the steering doesn't communicate very well, but many people just think they have to have gobs of power to be "sporty."
They already build the car he was looking for in this one... it's called the Hyundai Genesis coupe :D --shrugs-- This one will be the econo tuner that honda was famous for in the 90s. It's 145 ( I read 148?) will easily be into the 160-170s within a month or two of purchase for most of it's customers with aftermarket bolt-ons.
The real problem with diesels in the US is that they have to meet the same emissions as a gasoline engine. In Europe diesels get a break. That means here in the US you pay your $5,000 more for the diesel and it may be that instead of getting 39 mpg with gas you get 42 with diesel. That hardly makes it worth it. The return varies by vehicle, so diesels would make sense in a 1/2 ton pickup or most SUVs, but not in a small coupe.
I think it may be some time before our American friends learn to understand the European love affair with Diesel. Loads of toque, turbo for the mile high thin air and great fuel consumption however you drive it. The most impressive thing about my 2l Turbo Diesel is the way it sips fuel even if I drive like an idiot, you don't have to hypermile in a diesel.
I like the Elantra sedan, but unlike the civic, the styling is not much different in coupe form... Even the Kia Forte coupe has a more unique look than its 4 door sister. And the Elantra GT, don't expect much more, if any, in performance. I believe it uses the same 1.8 liter engine.
Solar panels how cool I thought that was really cool economical if you're into like artesian Pacific style and they have water by way of saving then style you hard or soft then treated like wall or tap
After reading the previous comments I'd say everyone is on the money. Hyundai spokesmen try hyping it as a sporty version of the sedan (which i like but always though - only 148hp, Really?) when in fact it's the same ole same. I understand and appreciate the goal of having many vehicles that obtain close to 40mpg or more but at least OFFER an engine upgrade that will keep skateboarders from beating of the line at a red light.
My 2012 gls elantra does it in 7.5 to 8 seconds thats good enough plus it gives me 30 to even 41 mpg around town not highway in sw florida where its poupulated cities. This car was meant to be a sedan
I smell the Turbo coming to the coupe. But it would be cool if Hyundai fooled everyone kept the MPG HIGH or even better and added a small electric motor to assist the HP and Torque. Then zero to sixty in 5.1 seconds and 50 MPG HWY. ;)
2014 model has 174hp/153lbs of torque(maybe its a different engine than this). I used to knock Hyundai for all their cars for being same looking, but the way it's going all car makers are doing the same(mazda, chevy etc..).
Your math is out... you started going at the 28 second mark in the video... and the video ended at 44 seconds. That HARDLY translates to 8 seconds... more like 16 seconds.
You're absolutely correct. Young'ns looking for something to work on, will do what European folks do, buy a cheap(ish) coupe or hot hatch (like a Mito or C1) and modify the crap out of it.
If only Hyundai can invest R&D in a proper chassis they would be a lot more appealing to car enthusiast . I would love to own a Hyundai that drove like a Volkswagen, can't have it all I guess.
dual exhaust tips on a 145hp car? *facepalm* why couldnt they use the forte engine to make it at least a bit more sportier? hyundai is being TOO obsessive over fuel economy imo.
The US shouldn't be able to call something trademarked another way because they feel like it. They don't even pronounce it the way it's spelled. Also what you mentioned was way back in 1986 not it's 2012. Since Hyundai was founded 1967 that means the US decided to call it the way they do now 19 years after Hyundai began. Anyways all I want is for it to at least be pronounced the way it's spelled.
VAG cars handle really well but they dont inspire any confidence there cruisers i own an A1 Audi and it holds forever if your brave the hyundai's tell you when there gonna slip
I've been thinking... WHAT ABOUT ELECTRIC CARS? Not hybrids so much, but more DIRECT ELECTRIC DRIVE. Not a Prius. A Nissan Leaf, Chevy Volt, even though there's a gas engine. All it has to do is charge the batteries. If you plug it in first, the engine won't turn on at all... CURIOUS AT COLORADO ALTITUDE?..
I enjoy watching you guys. However,,, be realistic when doing a review on a particular car. You complaint so much about how Genesis has no room in the back seat or its small?? Really? Name me a one coupe that you " 6' 2" 200+ pounds can seat in comfortably?? I want to see you do a review on a Porsche 911 and make the same complaint...And that thing cost 5x more.....Lets be real America. You know dam well, Korean car makers came up with a bad ass auto that cost nothing N you hate it!!!!
at first i was surprised that the guys in the videos also come here to comment, but i think its better they ignore all the sore ass losers who come to prove their crappy cars are really all we are dreaming about.. please go away so good comment get attention.
Or at least make it drive nice and sound good like the Dart with the 1.4 turbo in it. The Dart isn't fast, but at least it is entertaining. So how did you test the car @ 1 mile above sea level to get your 0-60 time of 8 seconds? We'd love to see that video. Please send us a link ASAP.

Did you ever consider why there are no good reviews of the Elantra Coupe Online. Perhaps you've answer your own question.
They should have used the same engine as the one the new Forte's have, but I guess since it was originally in the Veloster, maybe they opted to give it the less powerful engine.

mi papá se quiere comprar uno de 2014

come on Hyundai
give it a V6

I love these kind of videos from you guys very informative but its got your style sprinkled on it.
what state do you guys live in? Because, I keep seeing this 1 mile above sea level.
Hello guys, i enjoy watching your videos. When would you do the 2013 Hyundai Santa Fe review?
I love your videos but I just want to make a few points....... You didn't talk about the ride or the rear seat or storage space or price or technology. I enjoy your videos and I love your channel, I just wanted to put some constructive criticism out there.
You didnt get the point!!! I am saying you can get good gas milage, 40 mpg, while having plenty of power if driven right. The performance of any car is dependent on the driver.
its expansive, is it better then speed3, civic si?
good reviews BUT what is up with the lines in the video?
Hey guys, i was wondering what would you rather buy a civic coupe or elantra coupe
the fast lane car best reviews online, PERIOD. :)
Tightening the sway bars and getting rear anti rollers should help with that.
Thanks for the link but the video is completely useless. No clue what car, what road, what elevation, or what 0-60 time. I'm sorry but once again we're taking comments from 12-year-olds way too seriously. Lesson learned.

Please do a review for cadillac ats!!
So 0 to 60 would probably be 8.5 or so something like a Civic.. Roman, love your channel and reviews!

I miss these. Hyundai should bring this back. If these had the 2.0 turbo the genesis coupe had they would of sold better.
A tuners paradise.
You are right. That Hyundai all the way. They are changing the evolution of the econo car
That commercial at the beginning of that weird horror movie scared the heck out of me!!!
Roman, they should've had an Elantra Turbo in a coupe. The engine would be the same like the Veloster Turbo; however, Hyundai wants those who want more power ian original economy car to purchase the Veloster Turbo. It's like another Kia Forte Koup.
did you respond to the right post? what you just said made no sense.
"You can't get 39 miles to the gallon on the highway and at the same time expect to be sporty and fast."
Try a BMW 335d.
Perfect discription.
Actually you can get good performance and 39mpg on the highway. I have heard that with the new 328i people have been getting 40 on the highway and I am sure that car would SMOKE this little Hyundai. consumer reports got 37mpg hwy in a 2012 camry v6, and 41 in the 4 cylinder
They already build the car he was looking for in this one... it's called the Hyundai Genesis coupe :D --shrugs-- This one will be the econo tuner that honda was famous for in the 90s. now that would be sick
they should have put a turbo on it boosts torque and hp without decreasing mpg that much
I think it may be some time before our American friends learn to understand the European love affair with Diesel. Loads of toque, turbo for the mile high thin air and great fuel consumption however you drive it. The most impressive thing about my 2l Turbo Diesel is the way it sips fuel even if I drive like an idiot, you don't have to hypermile in a diesel.
yup...it is possible. The 328i is outrageously expensive though
its not a sports car guys. its a sporty looking eco car. 40 mpg highway....thats the selling point.

Huh? they can meet Euro IV and V easily it is just that car companies always charge more for diesel
Indeed!
the veloster goes against the civic si. and the 2.0t engine would be way to much for this little car
160 on spedometer cool
can anybody see the grass hopper on the elentras grill
Dont give me a hont about what you driving, your title says it all....
you were legit in this video
My 2012 gls elantra does it in 7.5 to 8 seconds thats good enough plus it gives me 30 to even 41 mpg around town not highway in sw florida where its poupulated cities. This car was meant to be a sedan
Hyundai engineers...... please put in this car and the elantra GT a turbo version of the veloster engine with 200 HP. THANK YOU
It doesn't necessarily have to be from the Genesis, it can be from the Sonata.
It was never intended to be a civic si fighter. There's no comparison, don't know why he even brought it up.
I smell the Turbo coming to the coupe. But it would be cool if Hyundai fooled everyone kept the MPG HIGH or even better and added a small electric motor to assist the HP and Torque. Then zero to sixty in 5.1 seconds and 50 MPG HWY. ;)
Roman. Please test tesla model s at 1 mile altitude;)
the first generation genesis coupe have the steering feel.
if you don't like their awesome reviews, why do you take so much ofyour time stressing over them to the point that you feel inclined to comment> lol
Sorry, make that 16-year-olds
2014 model has 174hp/153lbs of torque(maybe its a different engine than this). I used to knock Hyundai for all their cars for being same looking, but the way it's going all car makers are doing the same(mazda, chevy etc..).
Nice car. I see a bug. I thing is a grass hopper. The grass hopper likes the car. LOL
For $1000k more you can get a genesis coupe with a 2.0L turbo 4 with 274hp
Your math is out... you started going at the 28 second mark in the video... and the video ended at 44 seconds. That HARDLY translates to 8 seconds... more like 16 seconds.
Targeting the Civic Si?? WTF? This goes against the REGULAR civic, not the Si
You're absolutely correct. Young'ns looking for something to work on, will do what European folks do, buy a cheap(ish) coupe or hot hatch (like a Mito or C1) and modify the crap out of it.
WHY -in the hell- wouldn't they use the Forte SX's engine in this "uplevel" allegedly "sporty" car....?!?!
how can this thing even come close to the civic si?
It is better tan Civic
If only Hyundai can invest R&D in a proper chassis they would be a lot more appealing to car enthusiast . I would love to own a Hyundai that drove like a Volkswagen, can't have it all I guess.
Don't you think the design is completely awesome?
Hyundai should put at least 1.6 Turbo in that car. or 2.4GDI from sonata.
2.0T would be even better but..
That 1.8 engine does not even have GDI.
02:18 Roman said "4-slinder".
So basically it was a video dedicated to bashing the elantra coupe...
This is a fabulous car for its class. More power than Civic Coupe as well. LOL
dual exhaust tips on a 145hp car? *facepalm*
why couldnt they use the forte engine to make it at least a bit more sportier? hyundai is being TOO obsessive over fuel economy imo.
Beateful car
The US shouldn't be able to call something trademarked another way because they feel like it. They don't even pronounce it the way it's spelled. you poor guy, how can you go from testing R8's and Porsches to hyundais?
He should've floored it for the 0-60
when did i say hondas were sports cars? next your going to say that i consider my yaris a sports car...
I enjoy watching you guys. However,,, be realistic when doing a review on a particular car. You complaint so much about how Genesis has no room in the back seat or its small?? Really? Name me a one coupe that you " 6' 2" 200+ pounds can seat in comfortably??

sad part is it looks like it could move.... that is until you step on the gas....
0_60 mph 8sec not 12
Or at least make it drive nice and sound good like the Dart with the 1.4 turbo in it. The Dart isn't fast, but at least it is entertaining. I drive an Elantra sedan so I feel Roman's pain with the neutered driving experience. With the coupe it seems like you get the neutered response of the sedan, but they've ruined the ride. Hyundai can do better than that, a lot better.
why the f*ck do you say hunday and not hyundai where did the y go in the front and where did the y come from in the end????
I liked the video... Hated the car
