@@xtremegold2950 It sold poorly: according to official data, by 2020 it sold just 3 million copies with 5 games (actually 6 if we count the mobile one), one of them being released twice too. Agree about Vandal Hearts. I think that is probably only JRPG from PS1 era I finished more than once. I bought the 2nd entry in the series and when I noticed they had killed the turn based combat system into a ridiculous non functional bs I was done.

Right now I'm doing Vandal Hearts 2. Will try to keep Adele alive this time. I'll try Ogre next.
I actually owned the Collector's Edition of Eternal Blue back in the day. It was one of my favorite games when I was younger. Part of me is bummed it didn't get a remaster or an update like Silver Star Story did, but at the same time it's still such a good game, it can still stand on its own without such things.
An honorable mention should be Kartia.
Played alundra a lot when I was 14 or so. One of my favourite games of all time, lots of good memories. Never found it that hard thou apart from 1 specific puzzle. Didnt really have access to guides back in the days either but i managed somehow.
Alundra was amazing. Didn't like the second one as much.
I can't believe that im seeing Vandal Hearts at number 1. It's seriously never talked about, and here it is.. At number 1, and rightfully (IMO) so. I've loved that game since i first played back in the late 90's, and i seriously consider it a hidden gem. All i always hear is how great FFT is, but never vandal hearts. I wish the game would've gotten more love, and im happy to see that this video brought it some! Cheers mate.
I can't believe you didn't mention Breath of Fire III and IV. They are THE underrated jrpg. :(
they are not underratedd it had 2 prequels on the snes and handhelds also
@@xtremegold2950 and since when "having a prequel/sequel" means it's not underrated?!
the breath of fire series was popular in the west it had a succesful run from 5 tiles. the snes ps1 ps2. not until breath of fire 5 that capcom stop making .... the breath of fire series was not underrated. you can call underrated alundra ,lunar, vangrant story and legend of dragoon never had sequels not a succesful run

@@xtremegold2950 It sold poorly: according to official data, by 2020 it sold just 3 million copies with 5 games (actually 6 if we count the mobile one), one of them being released twice too. It means each of them sold just about 500k: that's a really poor result. 13 Sentinels, a fucking (splendid! I loved it) visual novel, sold more than that. Furthermore nowadays almost literally nobody knows/remembers Breath of fire. Unknown and poor sales: that's the perfect combination for something "underrated" *_-
Dude you killed it with this list! Wild Arms 2, Vandal Hearts, and Lunar 2 are some of my favorite ps1 games.
Played all of the list except Arc the Lad, yeah they're definitely hidden gems
Tactics Ogre blew my mind. First time I have seen such intriguing, dark story.
I did buy Final fantasy tactics because I seen that was made by the same guys.
Finished Vandal Hearts recently, and it was a great surprise!
Unfortunately, Vandal Hearts 2 is terrible.
Excellent list per usual, my man. I think Azure Dreams and Saiyuki would have fit nicely here too but for a top 10 some things need to be cut.
Tales of Eternia's name was changed in the west because of He-man.
jajja he-man the master of the universe jaja
Thank you for putting Lunar 2 on here! It's my all-time favorite game and it bugs the hell out of me that it didn't get the same treatment as its predecessor!
Criminally underrated and criminally overpriced for most of them.
If you're looking to collect, nowadays I just settle for Emu's.
lack of supply means higher prices.
xenogears was over 100 dollars before it became digitally available on the ps3, for example.
if something is "underrated", it means it rightfully holds a high value...
it it's "overrated" and expensive, THAT's what one calls "overpriced"
Sadly, I lost my entire PlayStation RPG collection during my last move. Vandal Hearts was one of the few games in the collection I never got around to completing. I think it's time I track down a new copy.
Anyone else felt that Thousand Arms is even more underrated than those in the list? 😂
Killer OP song and an MC who knows what he wants. Meis is a true chad.
Came to comment section just to mention Thousand Arms, lol. It's never been ported or re-released. I still have my PS1 copy w/ soundtrack.
Agree about Vandal Hearts. I think that is probably only JRPG from PS1 era I finished more than once. I bought the 2nd entry in the series and when I noticed they had killed the turn based combat system into a ridiculous non functional bs I was done.
my list is
Jade Cocoon: Story of the Tamamayu and
Saiyuki: Journey West, for me is enjoyable to play
Is Saiyuki difficult?
@@bustergundo516 Not really. It has challenging battles sometimes, but I found it very playable. I liked it.
@@bustergundo516 For me is quite Difficult some boss and last boss is challenging
Lunar 2 is such a fun little gem.
The "making of" disc that comes with the PS1 version is a neat little addition as well.
So by "criminally underrated", you meant every ps1 gamer talks about them and they are widely known.
Vandal Hearts was one of my favorite PS1 games and I feel like it is definitely criminally underrated. I liked the story a bit more than the story in FF Tactics, though the gameplay was a bit simpler. Regardless, it was amazing and it is a damn crime that more people who owned a PS1 and liked RPGs never played it.
Legend of Mana for me, especially the music, is like fever dream for me.. something that you dont know if you encountered it or not.. but you know you does.. you just dont know when..
I very much agree with your no.1 pick! I bought Vandal Hearts from a rental store years ago. I had no idea what it was like, I just knew it was an RPG and the cover was intriguing. It's still one of the best tactical RPGs ever made IMO
Yeah it is!
Thank you, awesome video. So glad you gave vandal hearts a part in that video. Awesome game
Lunar SSC was my first ever jrpg and it was the game that made fall in love with the genra, Lunar SSC and Lunar 2 will always hold a special place in my heart , the story is a very basic hero's Journey but I just love the world the characters and the music, I don't know why but everything about these two games feels magical to me.
Thank you for putting Tales of Eternia on the list. My favorite and one of my first JRPGs I played when I was a kid. A lot of people seem to not play this game and started playing Tales Series on Symphonia.
I played all of games on this list at the time of their releases, except Lunar 2 cuz it was released very late on the PS1 and I had bought a Dreamcast and moved on.
Great list. I did not expect Vandal Hearts to be number 1, but I can definitely see why. The very first time I played the game, the intro song got me invested. I used to buy anything that had a Konami logo on it cuz it used to mean high quality for me.
I like your taste. Subscribed.
