    Very fond memories of working my way through Jeanne D'Arc on my commute to and from work back in the day. I was a little reluctant to start it because I worried I would be frustrated with the difficulty and forget what I was doing when I inevitably had to out it down mid-battle, but I fell so in love with it that I ended up playing it almost exclusively after I would get home from work, which was super rare for me with handheld games. Agree completely with the recommendation there!

    I just realized that I haven't finished most of the games here except Oath of Felgana, Phantasy Star 1 and 2, and Fate/Extra. ESPECIALLY Fate/Extra. God knows how many times I've finished the game to the point that I unlocked the move sets of all enemies except bosses because in this game, the more you fight the enemy, the more you gain info about them and unlock their attack patterns.

    Good picks. I have most of these, except Eternia, which I have on PS1. As for Eternia released as Destiny II in the US, that was not a mistake at all. Namco called it Destiny II because Mattel had a copyright on the *Eternia* name due to *He Man & the Masters of the Universe.* Because of that, I'm so PO'ed @ Eternia/Destiny II, because we never got the "true" Destiny 2 because of it, which I would've preferred to have gotten here in the US (because Destiny is my favorite Tales game ... as well as Phantasia).

    For anyone who wants the physical copy of Tales of Eternia on PSP, try and look for the later release that came out primarily in France (may be other regions, still has english). The original release had a bug in it that makes the game unbeatable without a patch, but the later released fixed this. You can tell if its the fixed version based on the games version number when first booted up.

  • @Azael1332Xrd
    @Azael1332Xrd 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    More games than I consider underrated:
    Deph Heaven series (riviera the promised land, yggdra union, knights in the nightmare and gungnir)
    Too bad Sting (who created that franchise) left her forgotten and incomplete; that's right, riviera is episode 1,yggdra is the ep2, knights is the fourth and gungnir is the 9. Since then, it's been 10 years and no title has come out of the franchise. (when 3ds and psvita were announced, I thought it would be a fact for this to happen, but the wait became endless)
    But going into details, the 4 games (all available on PSP) have quite unique mechanics.
    But I see that almost no one talks about them and very rarely recommends them.
    Kingdom of paradise/key of heaven: an ARPG, created by Sony Japan Studio, is not the big deal, but stands out in some things.

    • @sunekoo
      @sunekoo 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes, THANK YOU! I absolutely love this series. A shame Gungnir didn’t sell enough (I assume) to get a sequel as the story is left hanging. One of the best srpgs I’ve played though.

    I agree with Silver Star Complete, the quality of life changes vastly improve the game. I still love and own the original, but it's basically just on display for me, but I absolutely fell in love with the original localized by Working Designs. It's not like the remake nullifies the originals existence, so just enjoy both! =)

      That game is excellent! But why they stuck the 4th season behind newgame+ is a mystery. If anyone is going to buy this, do yourself a favor and download a save file of clear data and start a new game from that, you can choose not to carry anything over so it'll be just the same as starting fresh.

    I'm glad that Leifthrasir has it play out that way in the game.

    I've been highly recommended jeanne darc, but I haven't had a chance to play it.
    And the reason why such eternia, in its location for the West of its original version of PS1, was changed to such destiny 2, more than anything it was because of Mattel... Because the name "ethernia" is a registered trademark, as you know, it belongs to the universe of He-Man
    (although Namco personally only had to change the name to "tales of eternity", seriously, they didn't think of it at the time?),
    Already when the real Tales of destiny 2 would come out in Japan, I would have liked the expression put by the marketers in Namco.
    And for that reason (I suppose), tales of eternia for PSP did not come out in America, But in Europe.
    I guess the reason why mana khemia 1 for PSP didn't have good sales or the terrible decisions on the part of NISA (I say this because it itself did not located many games expected by the public: the pucelle ragnarok, makai kingdom portable, etc.) , they didn't locate mana khemia 2 for PSP, a pity because I expected it, I almost thought they'd locate it too, but it didn't happen. Although its original version for PS2 was located for the West.
    The gramnad duology (atelier judie and atelier viorate) also came out on PSP, but as you can imagine, they only stayed in Japan, although I suppose they would have been overshadowed by the arland saga, which was the saga in turn.
    At least mana khemia 2 portable has an unofficial translation, how bad the portable versions of Atelier judie & atelier viorate do not yet have translation (I do not know if the original versions of PS2 have them)

    Fate is very popular and mostly thanks to Aniplex. They treat their licensees better than Sony Interactive Entertainment treated their Japanese IPs.
    When Fate/Extra came out on PSP from Marvelous there was no game business to be found from Aniplex. They didn't entered the game business until Fate/Grand Order on smartphones in 2015. Since then it has evolved to consoles and they continue to enhance and expand upon their game business.
    Fate/Extra was quite niche when Marvelous published it and was produced by Type-moon and Imageepoch. This released in 2010 when Ufotable hadn't released Fate/Zero anime adaptation yet. That's when the popularity started to gain for Type-moon franchise when Ufotable replaced Studio Deen with Fate/Zero and beyond. The Garden of Sinners adapted by Ufotable was already a success so it was a crucial move for Aniplex to approach Ufotable with all Type-moon franchises.
    When Studio Deen adapted the original of Fate/stay night it was a less popular franchise.

    If you don't have a PSP and you want to play these, download a PSP emulator.

    Silver Star Harmony might have better graphics, but the difficulty is so trivial and the retranslated script has way less charm than the Working Designs versions.

    • @martinde-serres8724
      @martinde-serres8724 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      they don't need the modern treatment honestly as they've aged so well
      Persona was better in its classic style before they turned it into 100+ hour-long overrated Saturday Morning cartoons with the later entries
      sure, they have their dark moments, but they get buried under all the flashy and bubbly J-Pop clichés that felt out of place for MegaTen standards
      P1 and P2ISEP are the best representations of MegaTen while P3-5 felt like an entirely different brand unrelated to SMT

    I'm going to ask a controversial question; which is better, psp or vita? I like psp better myself.

    • @TenchiHawkwing
      @TenchiHawkwing 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Depends on whether you mean with homebrew or not. With homebrew it's Vita 100% because it can fully emulate the PSP.
