  • In Dan Lanning's third season with the Ducks, he's built a roster capable of competing for the national championship. Saturday's win against Ohio State demonstrated the full potential and it should build more faith in Oregon's HC after beating Ryan Day.
On today's episode of Locked On Ducks, Spencer McLaughlin looks ahead to what comes next for Oregon after a massive statement win. Oregon is #2 in the AP Poll behind Texas who beat Oklahoma 34-3, should the Ducks be #1? 10:53
Spencer talks about the notion that Dan Lanning intentionally put 12 men on the field at the end of the game as a strategic ploy. Plus, the biggest individual standouts from the big win against the Buckeyes. 22:03

That game was a rock fight and the next one is likely to be more of one. For me that's the biggest talking point with the Oregon players in the coming weeks. All you managed to do was paint a huge target on your backs and motivate the crap out of Ohio St. to get even better. I believe in Oregon's staff and think they will convince the players that the only way forward is to get better and better or the competition will pass them. Both teams have real goals and it wasn't to win this last game, the goals are to get better and win championships and oh by the way... Love listening to you! Please please please, make a big deal of that first play that gifted Ohio State a free seven in a game where every position matters. I’m tired of all the cry baby responses of the last play! Be real, that was a 14 point swing, Dillon looks right, it’s a 21 point lead. Oregon dominated even tho the score said 1. Ohio played well, no comparison to Oregon. I’m all about giving credit where credit is due, 10 out of 10 Oregon wins after what I just saw. I’m more worried about a rematch with Boise than any other team out there! 🤣😂

Having that interception taken away at the very beginning which led to a td for Ohio state… and Ohio state fans still have the gall to blame the refs for their loss! Just like their head coach, they don’t know how to take accountability for anything. Ryan Day had the audacity to blame the officiating for their loss in the postgame presser. And the fact that Ryan Day didn’t know the clock doesn’t stop on a catch unless it’s a 1st down is classic Cristobal stuff. He let so much time run off the clock instead of using his last timeout. His post game interview was embarrassing, the guy is delusional. Gave the ducks no credit, acted like OSU dominated the game and should of won. Oh yea, and blamed the refs even tho the ducks got screwed by the refs way harder ALL GAME LONG. He didn’t even have the CLASS to thank the refs for gifting OSU their first TD of the game, or the ducks for leaving a shit ton of points off the scoreboard with missed extra points/missed FG/turnover on downs on the 2 yard line etc.. I can definitely see why Ohio State hasn’t really won anything since Day took over, even with one of the best rosters in football year after year.

I think Dan Lanning is an exceptional coach! I know he has drawn criticism in the past for 4th down play calling. I like his aggression, and won't fault him for those calls. When a team like Ohio State gets the ball back with 1:47 on the clock down by one point, the odds are in their favor to win. Going for it at Washington last year instead of punting was the call to make. Whether they fail on 4th, or punt, it's a bad spot to be in. Lanning having the physical mentality of playing football leans to the control of the game of keeping the football, and no punting. Having to kick the field goal to take the lead was understandable, and the correct call, but I would bet it was not automatic, and he considered going for it.

In my opinion, quick snapping is worse because it’s being done to avoid a correction of a call that one suspects is wrong. Taking a penalty on purpose is a huge gamble. Can you answer why Oregon is getting so much disrespect in the media? Not from you but national guys. All saying Ohio state lost themselves the game completely ignoring the points oregon left on the board and the free 7 given to Ohio st.?

Go look at the rushing numbers? Ok. OSU was giving up 2.5 yards per carry and the Ducks doubled that. The Ducks won the run game battle with OSU getting 19 yards on the ground in the second half. The Duck offensive line won the battle of the trenches. Even the Buckeye boards agree with that.

Nice podcast Spencer but regarding hype I think your angle was a bit off. People like myself who are uneasy with it don't prefer not having good talent? That deduction has nothing what so ever to do with holding back and frankly hard for me to believe you truly believe it. You can have all the talent in the world but a disposition unaffected by loud voices of expectation, especially when you're still so young, can all to easily become a different ballgame.

@@the_flushjackson The video is out there, he absolutely spit in his face. Holden has been a hothead all season BUT there are usually extenuating circumstances. This is the stuff we should just trust the coaches to handle as they have the full picture and judge them by the player discipline trends as a whole.

This team can play with anyone but they’ve also showed they can play down to anyone. I’m nervous about complacency but trust in Lanning and his process. After seeing Purdue put 49 on a good Illinois defense, I am worried about this week’s game coming off short rest and a huge win. West Lafayette is the worst play to go as the #2 team lol
