This actually makes me feel better going forward. In the off season I thought we would win this game because the Oregon crowd almost counts for 2 players, but we would be the worse team because of their roster in other venues. After this game I think Oregon has a slight edge in physicality, and HAD (may not continue to have) a huge coaching game-plan edge. With Burch I think our defense does better than it already did causing what SHOULD have been 3 turnovers, and putting some serious pressure on both the throw and the run. Remember who tackled Jesnty half the time behind the line of scrimmage? You guessed it.
@@raveouscarlias4479 Oregon left 5 points on the board, held on a 4th and goal, had a interception not called, the stats favored Oregon, you are right to say on a neutral it can go either way but destroyed, get real, we also had 8 players not playing including our best defensive lineman, your comment doesn't hold much water.

Ohio State fans need to grow up and stop crying about not going undefeated. When you play 3 games a year against a combination of Oregon, Penn State, Michigan, and USC, you need to learn to be happy going 2-1. Going 1-2 will happen some years. And going 3-0 should have you ecstatic. Saban, the GOAT went undefeated ONCE (excluding 2020 season). The team lost in an all-time classic road game in which the crowd noise was the loudest ever by 1 point.
I’m a fan of Ohio state. They are only 5th. Yes they have some issues but that’s every team. I’m sure even Texas will have some issues we’ll learn when they play Georgia
He absolutely pushed off and extended his arms and it was also called because the DB was clearly knocked off balance and backward created space for the WR.
He didn’t extend to push off, he extended to get the hands of the defender off him. Dude was being held all game but a flag wasn’t called for that, he extended to cut contact and it’s called? Extending to push the defender off is a PI but not to cut contact tact. What won them that penalty was the weakness of the corner making it appear as a push, not the actual move by Jeremiah.
The biggest takeaway from this game is that Oregon went toe to toe with OSU which is arguably on average a top 5 team year after year… they proved they can now play a physical game against any of the juggernauts of the SEC or BIG10
Good game! Nothing to be ashamed of. It’s always going to be tough to travel 2000 miles the day before a game and play your best game the very next day. Just the facts. Welcome to the new Big 10, I mean 18!
I’m a ohiostate fan and I can say that the fan base is toxic af. Playing in the sec and big ten is not easy so I’m even tired of some of the fans complaining. I can also say Oregon played a very good game
Ohio state can’t complain about the OPI when the call could go one way or the other. They literally had a free TD given to them when clearly Jeffrey Bassa intercepted the ball in the first half. That would have changed the game completely.
Replay wouldn’t have changed the call anyway. There was joint possession when both players were already down, so the ball couldn’t have changed possessions at that point. There wouldn’t have been indisputable evidence to overturn it…. The call on the field would’ve had to stand
@@WidgeonDrake you are disagreeing with the rules. If the call on the field was originally an interception, it would’ve stayed an interception. I also think it should’ve been a pick, I’m just saying they wouldn’t have overturned the call regardless of the call on the field… there wasn’t enough video evidence to show the Oregon player with full possession before both players were on the ground
Of course Joel is coping hard for Ohio State. 😂 Funniest part was him trying to explain how the offensive PI at the end was a bad call… while the replay clearly shows the WR extending his arms for the PI. 🤦♂️ Classic!
"the program is in a completely different place" Right because USC has paid +100m for Lincoln and MILLIONS MORE in NIL but the results are even worse than Helton's program that had ZERO university support in comparison. Joel really does go to bat for his personal friends that are head coaches.
Here’s the truth about Ohio State: the offense is actually good enough to win the natty, but their defense isn’t good enough to beat the best offenses. People say they’re the best defense in college football, but you can dice them up in the passing game. Michigan’s D last year was the nation’s best and most COMPLETE defense, Ohio State doesn’t have that type of pass defense. The rush doesn’t get home against better lines and exposes their secondary and linebackers in coverage.
Bud, you might need to schedule an optometrist; how can you watch the film and say not just that Smith doesn't demonstrate at least 85-90% blatant arm extension to push Nico Reed off, but Smith doesn't show any extension at all??? Reed definitely sells it, but he knows to do so due to the blatant arm extension from Smith, nevermind the heavy call & no call advantage OSU had all night (the INT that got stolen & getting away with DPI & holding all night)
Spend more time talking about the losers. Any criticism of officiating begins and ends with the INT on 1st drive given to OSU as a reception leading to 7 gifted points. Tremendous oversight by Klatt. And Smith had been pushing off all night with clear extension on that play which Klatt calls the smoking gun. UO had more miscues- so game shouldn't have been that close.
Is there a scenario where OSU and Oregon play three times? Could you imagine them meeting in B10 championship and the playoffs!? Also, as a Buckeyes fan, I hope they use this incredible game to tighten up and go on a warpath the rest of the season.
@@jasonboness3871Ohio State would win the matchup in Indy. You would neutralize the Oregon home crowd, and the last time I checked, Indy is driving distance from Columbus.
This game was best case scenario for OSU. Oregon misses 2 extra points, a mildly difficult field goal, and were stopping on 4th and goal. All of that on top of the missed interception early in the game. That final could’ve been 43- 24 if it all swung oregons way.
Sounds like I’m in the majority here in saying the offensive PI was an easy and correct call. Call it karma for the missed int that resulted in 7 for OH
Also, SEC and B1G need to each play 8 or 9 conference opponents. Pick a number and everyone does it. I'm sick of that of that SEC advantage that everyone seems to ignore as an advantage.

Big Buckeye fan! Great game. Congrats to Oregon! That's a really good team. If the Buckeyes had managed to win on a late field goal and we didn't mis-manage the time at the end, even if we did that I might be thinking today that we did not deserve to win. Both teams got some calls from the refs that were bad. We got a gift on the first drive. The big problem for Ohio State, to me, is that Burke simply could not cover the one Oregon receiver. They hit 3 big long-bomb plays that really hurt. Oregon tried to push the ball down the field with big plays (and it mostly worked) where I thought OSU tried to move down field in small increments...with the exception of a few plays. So to me if Ohio State wants to make the playoff they need to improve the defensive backfield and also their pass rush (though I know they do not blitz as much). Now, to be fair, Oregon's receivers are better than most in college football. They have serious speed and Ohio State is not the only team that will have a problem with their receivers. But if we do meet them again (or it could be Penn State) you will have to figure out a way to cover these guys. So what I am saying is that Oregon is a serious threat to win the national title if they can be consistent. Having said that, Ohio State and Penn State can still be very dangerous. Maybe Indiana, and boy did Iowa and Wisconsin improve. For now Oregon is the best team in the B1G, and maybe the best team in the country. I think the world of Texas. They are no joke. On a neutral field I could see Oregon giving them problems. Should be an exciting season.
Definitely disappointing to see Day’s buckeyes lose yet another close game against a top 5 team, but I think Buckeye fans need to look at the big picture. Usually when this happens it ends out season, but in this case, the season is FAR from over, and we’ll probably get a second chance against Oregon at the end of the year. The defense has got to be better, one defensive stop and we probably win that game. Also some crazy stuff like the once in a lifetime onside kick, and Judkins fumble really hurt. Tighten up the defense and get the sloppy turnovers fixed and we’ll be fine. I still love this roster and believe in the coach, it’s definitely disappointing but not a bad loss by any means.
I agree 100 percent and Will Howard can win us a title as QB our D and hate to say Burke who is a great player had his worst game he will ever have next time he will not allow a TD I guarantee
@@DanFromOR so the only other time you can think of this happening is from a game that took place almost 15 years ago and you’re saying it isn’t a fluke?? Do you know the definition of fluke?😂
OSU a helluva team. Forget being undefeated, survive, get better, and kick A in playoff. My LSU Tigers scratching and clawing to make it, so OSU should relax and enjoy the fine team you have.
Joel, I respectfully disagree with your comment about the offensive pass interference by Smith at the last part of the Oregon Ohio State game. If you slow that play down you can see Smith extend the arms, and push the defender back. It look like the hands went into the face guard. Take a look at it again in slow motion. I love your detailed analysis of games. Thank you.
How can you watch the tape and say Jeremiah Smith didn’t commit OPI? 😂 He pushed off to make space a millisecond before his cut to comeback to the ball, it was clear as day.

Yeah, I think people got it wrong on doubting the 12 team playoffs. It’s a lot of games on that matter. Every weekend. Especially now a lot of teams have one loss. And I know y’all see what’s going on in the SEC they’re literally beating each other up.
The thing about saying that USC is 2-3 plays short of 6-0, is that they were also 2-3 plays short of being 2-4 or 1-5. You can't let it get to those 1-2 plays or a ref making a bad call (after they missed your OL making some egregious holds).
One day, a coach will use the replay of that OPI call to show what offensive pass interference looks like in real time and full speed. It was textbook.
I was at the game USC game Joel, and everyone there blamed the loss on Lincoln Riley’s abysmal clock management and play calling down the stretch as well as some missed blatant PI calls down the stretch. What are your thoughts?
Ryan Day has a bit of Lincoln Riley to him. Both took over a great program, over time, the way they recruited was overall inferior to the previous guy. Both are too offensive heavy, and not sure if either could ever produce a great defense.
Thanks for the great presentation and explanations, Joel. I'm a Buckeye fan and love football but don't know all the intricate stuff, so I really appreciate your education on all this.
Hey Joel, I love the show. Your insight is awesome and I like how you see the game.. That being said, that was clearly OPI and the replay that was running on your TH-cam clearly shows that. It was a hard and obvious shove by JS and I can’t help but feel like your analysis of the ending of the game was off the mark a bit.

I'm not an OSU fan but you guys played them at home. When you play neutral site you'll get destroyed.

@@Devinsmith-iu3wy lol… okay. If this was reversed situation… you’d say the same thing about OSU? No, you wouldn’t. Stop being biased.
What makes it OPI is the cut off the contact. The shove is fine if he keeps going up field. If you shove off on a comeback route that gets called all the time.
This is a prefect example of why Oregon fans believe there is a bias against teams out West. At no point did the game seam like Ohio State was a lot better than Oregon. After listening to this you would think that Oregon just “got lucky”. How about spend some time talking about the team that actually won the game.
Love how you're saying the late offensive PI was a bad call cause he didn't push off the corner, whilst showing that he clearly did.
Seemed like an obvious push that helped him catch the ball? Also there was no mention that the refs didn't review a critical interception by Oregon that led Ohio state to get 7 points.
@@stevepurdy7641there was no clear shot of the interception. Double catch goes to the offense. I don’t think it would have been overturned anyways.

I'm an Ohio State fan, and I totally agree. I can't stand Ohio State fans wine when they lose a game because they act like the world is ending
Totally agree. The twelve team playoff has changed everything. One lost game isn’t anything in a Power 4 confernece
How about doing better than 1 and 7 against top 5 opponents? These games should be a split. No crying, just what reasonable expectations are.
Fire Ryan Day!!!
Ohio State played a great game as well. Epic 🏈
Ohio state can’t complain about the OPI when the call could go one way or the other. They literally had a free TD given to them when clearly Jeffrey Bassa intercepted the ball in the first half. That would have changed the game completely.
Notice how Chip had them race up to the line and hike the ball? We're used to PAC12 refs, so we never expect solid officiating
Replay wouldn’t have changed the call anyway. There was joint possession when both players were already down, so the ball couldn’t have changed possessions at that point. There wouldn’t have been indisputable evidence to overturn it…. The call on the field would’ve had to stand
@@H8erOfLife disagree
@@WidgeonDrake you are disagreeing with the rules. If the call on the field was originally an interception, it would’ve stayed an interception. The TV official thought there was enough to overturn and I definitely agree with him.
Of course Joel is coping hard for Ohio State. 😂 Funniest part was him trying to explain how the offensive PI at the end was a bad call… while the replay clearly shows the WR extending his arms for the PI. 🤦♂️ Classic!

Joel really does go to bat for his personal friends that are head coaches.
I’m mad at Riley as much as the next guy, but without him we’re easily 1-5 so far.
They also lack gap discipline. JT Tui is a showboat who is routinely out of position because he’s overpursuing to pad his own stats.

Lololol Ohio State converted more first downs and Oregon had a whopping 29 more yards of total offense. Some domination

The thing about saying that USC is 2-3 plays short of 6-0, is that they were also 2-3 plays short of being 2-4 or 1-5. You can't let it get to those 1-2 plays or a ref making a bad call (after they missed your OL making some egregious holds).
