My M9N lasted a very short time. Went to fly one day and compass not found on pre arm checks. Hardware became very warm and no lights. Contacted Mateksys CS and they had me probe a few components. First they claimed I fed it too many volts, wrong, the u blox module itself was bad. They would not warranty since it had been just over 90 days since I bought it. They suggested I replace u blox module (not a simple soldering task). Just for fun I asked them where to get component and they said google it. I asked for them to sell me one and they said they had none and M9N discontinued. JUNK. Another wonderful product by the chicoms.
I had it when I first activated the position hold mode and it worked perfectly, but when I switched to another mode and activated the position hold mode again, the toilet bowling effect occurred, and I don't know why. please help
Hi, I’m using the m9n5883 and also the Vifly mate.In the diagram you showed all 6 wires from gps soldered directly to FC.Would you have wiring diagram with Vifly in line? Looks like the Vifly has header plugs more suited for m8q5883?
I'm installing the m8q matek gps for my 4inch with a geprc f722 45a aio ff and it doesn't have it's connectors for the sda and scl, can I just leave them aside? Cause my other gps with the same fc doesn't have those anyways.
The M8Q is a combined GPS and magnetometer (compass). If you don't wire the SDA/SCL connections, you only have the GPS sensor and the GEP-F722 doesn't provide any I2C bus anyway. Without the magnetometer INAV RTH will be pretty useless.
hi my ps hold and rth is good but if i power on the vtx hdzero 1w race if i try po hold its all ova the place is my gps to close to the vtx or could it be the wires are running under the vtx thanks danny
I've found GPS is very sensitive to the noise generated by HD cameras and I always recommend setting up the GPS and magnetometer with all cameras off. Try rerouting any camera wires away from the flight controller board and make sure the VTX is as far away as possible - not always that easy 😀
Hi, I have Speedybee F405 Wing and GPS Walksnail M181 (built-in Compas) I heard that for F405 some people recommend disconnecting the SCL and SDA cable to prevent FC Confuse My goal is to make Autonomous RC Plane Is it true?
Building 5inch quad using inav After compass calibration it's heading is drifting hglrc f7 mini with m80 pro gps And what about I2c speed ? Which one should I select ?
Can propellers make interference to gps or compass if it’s installed right under propellers? Also does vibration cause any issue to gps or compass. Do we have to put silicone under the gps/compass module?
Try and avoid any vibration and props above the antenna. Also get the antenna as far away from motors, ESCs and power cables as possible - 100mm is a good guide. And HD cameras - GoPros etc can also cause interference. If you find you've got problems, try turning off any HD cameras until you've got a satellite lock. You don't need any silicone. The GPS module doesn't generate any heat.
@@WhirlyBloke Thank you for your reply! I was thinking if I should use the silicon to reduce vibration for the gps module and the compass. Since I herd vibration could cause interference. Compass interference is my worry.
I put a compass on a quad and 2 of my planes. I calibrated then in the house and when I tried to do return to home. All of them would just fly in circles. After I used the inav stick commands and calibrated then outside, they worked great. It's amazing how much buildings interfere with magnetic field.
The M8Q 5883 is a good performer, would be a lot easier to mount and wouldn't incur as much vibration as the larger M9Q. Is the M9Q really worth the extra hassle ? Cheers
Using the N9M with NMEA gives me random 'GPS FAILURE' messages in OSD, when i use ublox protocol everything works +/-25 sats but navigation is off. Am i doing something wrong?
Great presentation with timestamps in the description, love it! I've ordered a AOS 7 frame, but haven't decided on parts yet, so looking forward to the build video and will probably use same parts as you since it's been tested and compatible with INAV :) GPS mount seems complicated and nothing I would be able to replicate (laser cut)... Is this something we could buy somewhere? Or any recommendation for 3d print drawings?
@@WhirlyBloke Wow, amazing and thanks for following this up after 1 month! You are truly a gentleman! I just ordered a piece now. Was afraid I was going to print a unstable 3d print (PLA\ABS), when you point out that this need to be fit and sturdy.
Any way u can do mount like that for rekon7.. not sure of gps/compass next to vtx antenna mess it up. My compass won't work. Keeps not calibrating Tried again. Even upgraded to 4.1. Tried different mag direction. Calibrated a couple times. Still like when you turn drone. Heading goes back.

So far only tested a few times walking around with it and pointing it in the directions I know to see of working

Yes the F405 V4 is fine, but the Matek has been superseded now by the M10Q-5883.

You want to do the compass calibration outside, away from buildings and other electronics and with a battery on your quad and powered up.

Use UBLOX protocol.

The connectors are for 4 wire like the M8Q. If you're using the M9N that has +ve, -ve, tx, rx and ic2 you need to solder to the board. Simple.
