Daniel, work smarter not harder. Go buy (5) 10gal buckets with lids, put them in back of the side by side, fill up at the house, and drive them to the barn. One trip, fill everything up. I hope RJ feels better!

It reminded me of when my Shetland pony would get out as a kid and we could never catch him... but my mom would stand on the porch with a few cookies in a paper sack and just shackin' that bag and calling for Dapple Dan to come home.. it never took very long before he'd come trotting back. He was no dummy. But he sure looked like a whipped pup as we led him back in the corral.... "Shucks, I fell for it again. Dang that sweet tooth"🤠

RJ acts like he could be constipated by the way he was standing. Earl holding that chew stick for Kelce is the cutest thing.
That's what I thought. That would account for being uncomfortable standing and laying.
I was definitely thinking of a blockage of some kind. Pumpkin is good for stomach issues in dogs. I'm not a vet, research before trying.

My horse had colic a while back, but he didn't get well...not enough poops in a day...and was still 'off'. My vet said to put 2 oz of "MOM" in his senior pellet feed. It helps soften his manure. It certainly helps.
As the other person said, I'm not a vet", but your vet might know if it's OK for Alpacas. 🙏 for you.
I've never set foot on a farm but I know that scrunched up stance.

@angelarowe3472 the cold doesn't bother Llamas Alpacas are From the Andriy mountains. You should Google about the Llamas and Alpacas and understand cold weather doesn't bother them. They love the cold weather they also sleep in the snow

No weekend or holiday would stop me from finding someone to look at such a special animal. He looks like he's in so much pain!!! 😔 But I also understand you could hurt him more by loading him up in the vehicle. Praying he gets some relief soon!!!
It’s amazing to me how you can name all those animals by heart. I can’t even remember my own name most of 5he time.

It is cold here in Western Maryland. We got snow Monday and more coming tomorrow. Poor RJ. I will be praying for him. He truly was a gift from God after Rufus passed. Kelsey and Earl are so cute.

RJ's rumen may not be working properly. I know their digestive system is a bit different, but Alpacas are still ruminants. Another channel (K&S Get Out) had one of their goats get really sick and they think it had to do with him eating some of their guardian dog's food. Does RJ have access to Bear's food? If he has been munching on it, that might be a place to start.

Hope RJ continues to get better! I chuckled at you calling the water spigots, “hydrants” . We call them faucets down here in NC.❤️
I’m in eastern NC. I call them spigots outside and faucets inside. My husband calls a garden hose by the name hose pipe. 😂
RJ MIGHT BE SICK cause Alfalfa does have one downfall: it can cause a rather dangerous cattle ailment called “bloat.”....Thanks Danial and family
I was wondering if he got a hold of wet grain,straw, or hay. I know you know what you're doing. But it worries me that he's done.
Males have an issue with alfalfa.
Goats can eat moldy hay,so can cattle, but not horses and wondering if alpacas are the same. Also, alfalfa can be rich for some animals. I know with horses one feeding of alfalfa., the other feeding is some good grass hay. They find out what’s wrong.
It can also cause urinary blockage, especially in males from the high calcium content.
bloat present different at least in cattle as the description bloat they blow up like a balloon

i would lean more to constipation

Bloat i believe is more an issue with fresh alfalfa once dried and baled
no an issue never had problems in winter when we fed alfalfa
fresh alfalfa yes we tried to keep from feeding on only alfalfa a random alfalfa or clover bunch where seeds ended up from ?? bird or winter feed didn't bother them as it was limited to small amounts

Poor RJ. He got to get better. Actually we have been in the upper 50’s. I am in Monterey, Ca. We are on the Pacific Ocean.
Get RJ to a vet ASAP! Abdominal pain like that is never something minor. It can be a sign of a urinary tract obstruction (a stone in the tube between the bladder and penis) which will kill him. Not drinking enough due to his water being frozen can be a cause. Could also be a bowel obstruction-same prognosis without treatment. If he got kicked in the belly he could have internal bleeding. Don’t wait. All vets have emergency coverage.
The poor animal is suffering every minute, meanwhile we have happy little chats about all the fun farm happenings. I really feel for him, I've suffered while listening to happy chatter around me. It makes his suffering very real and personal to me. Poor guy!

I am seriously worried about RJ, I sure am praying he'll be alright. Now that you reminded me about him jumping up on the donkeys, he actually acts like he might have been kicked in a tender area. But yeah, I hope your vet has a better idea or even better comes out to examine him. Anyways, I know when you have animals or even people,sick etc... happens. The more you have ,the more we have to go through the tuffest part. So no matter what, we love you guys & know that you love your critters & such. Now I am just rambling as I really am worried about him. If I had money I would definitely send it to you

New puppies are a lot of fun and can be a lot of headache. Things we take for granted or things that just work may not work anymore with a new puppy around the house.

I live in Northern California, and we have had temperatures in the high fifties, and occasional rain. I pray that R.J. gets better and the turkey poults make it. Kelce is so cute.
Did you lift It's tail? He looked a bit dirty at his back end and could be blocked up, in which case you may need to trim the hair from his back end so that he can poop. I think it is adorable that Earl is holding the chew stick for Kelsey! What a sweetie!

On FARM OF ROUTE 66 they have automatic watering post. The animal push a little float down with their nose to get water, and when they are done drinking, water flows back down below frost level under ground.
Try pointing a heat lamp toward your water line where it enters your barn. It might warm the water in the line enough to melt the ice in the line.

You could get one of these tanks, fill it, store it in a warm space in the barn and use it when the pipes freeze up.

Your animals need an old timey enclosed, wood barn to keep warm in. They are freezing in those wide open cages.

It's a little warmer here but not much. Hopefully RJ gets better soon.
The drip free faucet is NOT installed correctly. The inside portion MUST be higher that the outside part.. It was installed incorrectly. You can fix it by installing external water line heater wraps.
RJ looks to be having an issue of too much Alfalfa and not enough grass and grain.
Hoping RJ get well soon!! Time to get some heat wrap tape for those water lines. Never know when you'll need those lines warm again. And sill puppies need to be kennel trained. Have a blessed winter.
