      My family has always been taught firearm safety and hunting, fishing, camping and survival! I was very proud of my dad and uncles having the patience to help teach us as kids? I've continued the practice with both my kids and been teaching our grandkids now. I taught my wife to shoot after we got married in 1985 and I can't believe she hasn't shot my stupid butt. I call her my wonder woman because I wonder how she's put up with my antics all these years! It still hurts when we go to the range and the wife out shoots me! I don't usually jump from a 16ft. stand but with slugs whistling through the trees around me i didn't hesitate a second. Unlucky for them my uncle who was a N.Y. State Trooper at the time was hunting with me that day. By the time the investigation was done they were hit with 47 charges and lost 8 firearms, 26 sets of antlers, 3 vehicles and had over $6,000 dollars in fines and 2 of the 3 got jail sentences and they all lost their hunting privileges for 5years.

He didn't yell out like he should have he didn't have any orange visible outside of the blind. Ask any DNR officer or game warden or anyone with a shred of common sense and they will all tell you to shout out loud and make yourself be known. There has been plenty of know it all know nothing KARENS that will try to sound knowledgeable intellectual by saying this or that smh It's one question was he right or was he wrong? Those deer ran directly in front of the blind what if one or all of those hunters jerks opened up??? No clue they were there. If he yelled out stop right from the beginning like he should have there wouldn't have been any shoots or shot thus keeping himself and his son safe. He clearly didn't yell out because he wanted it on video or to show law enforcement or TH-cam views or both either way epic fail! I say if anyone is in this situation and they have too much Lack and Limitation in their mindset they shouldn't be out in the woods with guns hunting. I’m glad y’all are safe. I had a similar incident on Thanksgiving morning this year. Luckily I wasn’t in the immediate vicinity when they fired their rifles. I walked my property and found the trespassers. I put two guys on the ground at gunpoint and held them there until local Sheriff’s office and game warden arrived. Charges filed, my entire property boundary is properly marked purple with the proper signage at every gate. I can’t stand trespassers and poachers, there’s absolutely no reason for it.

They were cited for illegal hunting, trespassing and a couple others… high school kids.

    They clearly shot towards you ON YOUR LAND! How you had the restraint to not send a warning shot while they are running is commendable, probably not great to de escalate the situation however would also be incredibly understandable if you did. All in all, glad you guys are safe… that’s nothing short of infuriating.

      never send a warning shot: either shoot to kill, or don't shoot.

    • @sevaul
      @sevaul ปีที่แล้ว +88

      Warning shots are not real and almost always illegal. If you brandish your firearm you are in fear of your life, shoot to kill or don't shoot at all.
      NOW that said, in this case on private property where shooting is legal... no harm in taking a shot "at a target" for "target practice" to get the message across. Also without saying but never shoot in the air.

    • @ohauss
      @ohauss ปีที่แล้ว +20

      @@sevaul
      Warning shots are very much real. They are explicitly mentioned in police procedural law in several German states. E.g. Bavarian police law requires a warning before the use of firearms against people (unless that would impede the actual purpose of the intervention) and explicitly states that warning can be given as a warning shot. In fact, the implementation regulations state that if there is reason to believe the character of the shot as a warning shot was not understood by the suspect, the warning shot should be repeated. Likewise, if a verbal warning of impending use of the firearm was not understood, a second warning can be given as a warning shot.The regulations also state that warning shots are to be fired at a steep upward angle.
      And the same laws also explicitly prohibit shooting to kill unless it's the only way to end a clear and present danger to other human life. Even among those shots fired at people, shooting to kill is a rare exception, with suspects being stopped regularly by shots to the thighs
      And please, don't come with stories of people being killed by falling bullets. Can it happen? Yes. But in a situation such as in the video, the probability of someone being right where the bullet drops is negligible. The same applies to "Shots to the thigh might hit the femural artery" - the probability is extremely low. Statistics is a thing.
