I saw a paper published a year or two ago about a new type of panel that could work at increased temp. Cheap fresnel magnification was my first thought for an application. I do like the suggestion by some of your other commenters of just submerging the panels in water though. Gives you options to harvest the waste heat for a useful purpose as well.

I wonder if the heating would be less with a load in the circuit? The multimeter measures amps and current, but how does that work if there's no load in the circuit? Wouldn't you need a load?
Either way, there are cold places on the earth that get plenty of sun.

I really like how you describe your process in detail and very simply. I searched for this directly "solar panel with lens" to see if I could use some fresnel lenses I recovered from old LED TVs to increase my capture of solar power. I'm hesitant because of the added heat (not to mention my current charge controller is already nearly maxed out at peak). But this video answered my question without requiring me to look at more videos, and that to me sir, is the sign of a very effective video. Thank you.

I had the same idea years ago. I tried this too. It didn't work in strong sun. Maybe it would work in low light conditions better. The first thing I learned using panels is that placement is most important. With the Fresnel lens maybe it will give you a better latitude in less than optimum conditions.
I also thought of using a water bath to cool the panel. That does work but you cannot recirculate the water, you need to bleed off the hot or all you are doing is making a thermal heater.

Suppose we do lay them flat and submerged them in water? Then we used AND Fresnel lenses mirrors to reflect and magnify the sun rays perpendicularly to the panels? Then we automatically rotate and tilt the whole setup such that we get coverage the entire day?

It should give the same power increase as the difference between the area of the lens vs. the area of the solar panel. Basically it’s like using a solar panel the size of the lens. Do they make solar panels that can handle this amount of heat?? That would be awesome. 👍🏼

Wonder if you had water in a container that the fresnel concentrated on brought to a boil - with the steam turning a tubine - then going through a cooling tube (like a still) but then somehow have it brought back into the original container (closed loop) to keep reboiling the same water - no water loss - without an explosion like a boiler tank explosion from excess pressure. Similar to the solar mirror concentrators inthe west...

Great experiment! Can you try using different filters to filter out different frequencies of light, for example an infrared filter? I'm wondering if filtering out a certain part of the light spectrum might allow the solar panel to operate at a lower temperature while maintaining 380mA.

solars panels are no use if you have efficiency loses inbetween. You'd be better taking some copper pipe, painting it black with candle wax sooth and making it give a few turns to maximize the surface the lense can heat and then use the steam to power one of those mini steam engines.
Plus the advantage of solar farms like that is that mirrors are way cheaper than solar panels, and the system is overall just as efficient with the only disadvantage of a bit lower power density but space is way cheaper than solar panels, and the mirrors do not degrade over time nor need dangerous chemicals to produce.

    • @electronicsNmore

@@WaschyNumber1 Condensation clouds from planes work and look the same as when i was a child in the 1970s. There are more airplanes in the sky these days and once you start to care about those could patterns, you will notice them more without trying. You can also see schematics for all planes that are approved for legal use and you will see that there is no space for giant tanks of chemicals other than the fuel and anyone can test the fuel that is being used... The notion of chem trails is just not a reasonable notion beyond a possible few black-ops missions with special planes, but those they would want to keep away from prying eyes and telescopes so you would not see those at all... In other words if you see those trails then it cannot be a black-ops mission because then they could be spotted and outed. And, regular planes could not hold enough chemicals to create clouds that size nor enough to have any effect on a populace below. It is simply condensation created by the plane moving through the atmosphere, now as it has been for decades.

I wonder if you could do some kind of either passive cooling system on the back like a heatsink and use the convection processto keep the air flowing over the heat sink. Or could you use a little bit of the power to run a small cooling fan over that heatsink enough that you still have a net increase in power but not damage the panel.
I suspect ultimately it is simply more effective to just use more panels.
    But certainly an interesting experiment
