ignoring the other guy, yes, in fact it will be able to reach significantly higher temperatures if still concentrating light from the sun because there will be lower transfer of heat into the air overall, this is of course if you can manage to get one to focus into a vacuum chamber and the process youre doing doesnt counteract your pump by releasing gas or expanding significantly
try to do harder metals and things like sand or dirt. Try to cook with it. Also look for a lens filter for your camera to cut out the glare. Love those lenses I want to get one myself where did you get one that big?
+mephibosheth29 yeah I definitely need a filter so you can actually see what's happening. With the welding glasses I was wearing I could see it, but the camera couldn't.
Ice. Water. Some meat, preferably with skin, to see what it might do to a person. Glass, maybe colored. I like the idea of stone, I wanted to see what that one would do. Maybe a more pure stone, though. A chocolate bunny similar kind of like the chocolate bunny in a hair dryer videos. An egg? Get some thin wood and cut through it. It might just catch on fire, though. Is there something you could cut? Maybe sheet metal. You definitely need something on wheels to move the stuff around. You were freaking me out with your fingers right next to the light. As many people said, get a neutral density filter for your camera. Even better, two cameras, one filtered, then edit them together. If you get the lenses close together you might even be able to do a slight perspective shift and overlay them. If you have one of those black body thermometers, see how hot you can get something.
I have 3 of these and they are amazing! I melted copper, aluminum pretty easy! I got the from the huge HDTV that people just throw away! They make a sun laser beam!!
Melt bigger swaths of SNOW instead of shoveling big piles of snow and waiting days to melt normally by just on a sunny day. I want to melt as much snow so it doesn't refreeze to cause a slipping hazard.
a lot of people think it's cruel to do that, but i think it's a lot more humane, considering that they die almost instantly compared to the hours/days it takes for poison to kill them
If you use a high shutter speed, very slow aperture, and a neutral density filter, that should allow you to actually capture what's happening as it's burning.
If you had a larger lens then you will create even more heat. I love this sort of stuff...it's free energy from the sun and is not as harmful to the environment. I can go on for ages about this....But i won't. Great video and thanks for sharing. New sub 👍🏻 Great video
Imagine sticking one to a robotic arm and having it pointed at a steam engine boiler. I could see potential for a solar powered power plant if it was done on a large enough scale.
@@cavelvlan25 I think it needs to be mentioned that this is a point source. A lot of energy is concentrated in 1 tiny point. That is why the temperature can get so high. But this doesn't provide significantly more energy in total than just solar energy. The energy is just concentrated wich is only useful for very specific processes, like welding perhaps. But not so much for most other industrial processes. You still need an unpractically large surface area for most applications.
Wiznaf07 what are you talking about plasma? This is purely focused solar radiation and plasma "can only be artificially generated by heating neutral gases or by subjecting that gas to a strong electromagnetic field." -Wikipedia. And before you say its heating the neutral gases in the air, the gases that the wiki is referring to are Nobel gases like neon, helium, argon or xenon
The Egyptians may have used large lens to melt the rocks for the statues so they could liquefy things like granite, as it seems unlikely they could have made those statues with the copper tools they had at the time, but pouring the liquid granite could have made the process much easier
So often I have wondered why we do not use magnified solar we could easily control the heat lvl by moving into or out of focus. Keeping things at workable temperatures. metal, water , anything really. As long as you could keep it from going boom.
hey! you can actually shoot very bright objects, too much dark is problem while too much light is not. put your camera on manual,, set the exposure to the lowest vallue available, like 1/4000. if that's still not enough, use ND filters or welders glasses.
Typically the smaller lens we get in market takes a while to adjust to an angle to sun to create such concentration. How long does it take to adjust to get that concentration of light for this bigger glass? Was that easier? I want to experiment if we can burn weeds in farm
New at a college in Michigan they are improving solar panels that convert heat to power or even high voltage with gold mirror a small layer of air between the panel and the gold reflective panel but imagine if it started out hot cause of your magnifying glass heating a surface that was touching the panel
Okay so you can't 'stack' multiple magnifying glasses to increase the heat - it doesn't work like that. However you could use multiple magnifying glasses, have them side by side - except the one in the middle would be facing straight towards the object, all of the additional magnifiers would need to be angled, the further away from the mid-point you position them, the more of an angle they would need to be positioned. I'm pretty sure this is how ancient people's manage to build great pyramids out of concrete - use the lense to dry and harden the mixture.
Does the lens itself and the immediate area around it get very hot? Could you put your hand close to the lens in between the lens and the focal point safely without being burned?
That's how those Egyptians melted those hard stones and rocks down to make those statues, obliques and marble quartzite and granite models....Solar Energy
So I was thinking about how nice it might be to melt down my aluminum cans (coke, water, etc.). Would these lens work well for that? Could it be used to melt down an entire soda can down to a small Aluminium blob?
When I was a kid I sometimes used to take a magnifying glass and burn ants or flies. I had lots of fun doing that. Good times. If I did it today as a grown ass man people would probably find it mildly disturbing. :-)
