One of my favorite racers on PS2, and a great sequel to the Side By Side series. A nice middle ground between Ridge Racer and Gran Turismo, it's a Touge racer and more realistic than RR, but still arcade style and not overly sim-like.
@Houki Chan That`s actually the only difference. Atsuro Kawai actually drove an R34 GT-Turbo (which is like a GT-R but is rear wheel drive and had less horsepower).
I'VE BEEN LOOKING FOR THIS GAME FOR HOURS (LITERALLY) holy fucking shit i used to spend a lot of time at the local arcade playing this absolute masterpiece with my dad
@purwantiallan5089 but the AI is so good and the time limit so difficult that you need a perfect run just to finish the course. That's why Im glad that battle gear 3 is a bit more forgiving
Oh man I remember playing this when i was grade 6 in the arcade here in the phillipines back in 2001 i think and i always pick the honda motors the honda eg6 and pretending to be shingo in initial d uhhh memories well umm its pretty good game while umm the battle gear 3 is much better but i would rather playing the 3 because of the gameplay but hey it's pretty cool game
Best racing game in terms of handling and car sounds. Just wish it had more JDM cars like the Nissan 300ZX, Honda CRX SiR and Mitsubishi Eclipse just to name a few.

Yep. Shame even Gran Turismo 7 cant match Battle Gear 2 in terms of "BE FUN" gameplay.

because Battle Gear/Side by Side are Taito's answer to Initial D
The intro is actually a homage to the second battle in Initial D: Fourth Stage against Seven Star Leaf`s Atsuro Kawai.

2023, BATTLE GEAR 2 on both Arcades and PS2 are still great game surprisingly!

ps2 emulators do support online on ethernet, although i don't think there is any iLink support
