Truly a chaotic episode, it gets reasonably overshadowed by the ending of Junior shooting Tony but I’ve always found this to be a rather unique episode. They take a relatively unmemorable character in Eugene and toss you into his story making you empathize with his struggle.
yeah, he was a background character, and had an opportunity to be in a center of attention for a while, and even though he was a violent criminal, murderer, you can't stop but feel bad for him. And even his wife, who obviously knew what kind of life she will have with him. They both got a chance to hope for an alternative life, only to be not let go, and pressed from both the mob and the FBI
One thing Chase did which was amazing was to show the contrast of Ray and Eugene handling the pressure of being a snitch. Ray was cool and calm the whole time while Eugene was being ripped apart emotionally.
not to jump too far ahead but please consider watching The Wire after you finish this final season. i can confidently say it will be as rewarding as the sopranos run. it's right in your guys' wheelhouse.
Here are some interesting notes from a podcast that had Terrence Winter on, one of The Sopranos' main writers *Junior shooting Tony was always an idea they had *David Chase was basically done with the show after season 5, there was a whole 2 year break after season 5. Terrence Winter convinced Chase to keep going. *David Chase pitched the end of the series where Junior shoots Tony and the show ends while Tony is reaching for the phone. Obviously, that doesn't happen. *Terrence Winter convinced Chase to take a break, the show could have a time jump (s5 to s6), making picking back up easier from clean slate. *Splitting season 6 in 2 parts (just released at different times) was done so because of HBO contracting, no real reason for writing.
If you go back to season 3, Eugene and Chris were made at the same ceremony which makes it even more tragic and kinda messed up when you see Chris talking down to him about "putting in a good word with Tony." To the point about squeezing Gene, we see over time, that the FBI has informants out the wazoo. They build cases for years. This was also the first episode of the series that I saw when I was younger so I had a much bigger attachment to Eugene than I otherwise would have.
I am so hyped for any Sopranos-watchers, especially people that are able to actually *observe* and *pick-up* like you. I am so hype for what's to come in your Sopranos watchlist.
I’m surprised people don’t catch on the jokes on Ginny even tho they aren’t supposed to be ment that way Him saying she’s got the weight of the world on her Johnny sack saying she can get heavy there’s others in sure but those come to mind
What really increases throughout the series is the deep symbolism. The next few episodes have so much symbolic meaning it takes weeks to figure out what you’re about to see. For now... solve the symbolic meaning behind the musical intro that started this episode. The intro song is named “Seven Souls”. Watch the intro & try to match up the seven souls they speak of to the correct seven characters. They show 12 or so characters in the montage but the song only describes 7 souls. Some are easy to figure out.... Meadow is Ku (the guardian angel). Not Finn who was also shown when the song described Ku. Who is Reem... the 1st & top soul?? It has to either be Vito, Janice or Bobby (or maybe their baby). Those were the 4 characters shown when the song described Reem. By the end of the series you will be able to figure out who are all of the Seven Souls but probably not until the final episode.
Fun fact, that ending made the 1 week gap to the next episode feel just as long as the 2 year gap in seasons 😂 side note, do you guys plan on reacting to the Wise Guy doc and Many Saints or is that gonna be a off screen deal?
i think i remember them saying they want to watch the Wise Guy documentary and the Many Saints movie as well but they’re aware of Many Saints not being liked by the majority of fans
6b is when the show really starts firing off on all cylinders, i'm really excited for you guys to reach that point. also i just want to say i've been watching your reactions since succession and following along with tony tuesdays has been an incredible journey. the best is yet to come
Remember that black crow was in the window when BOTH Christopher and Eugene were made, and Christopher was SO worried about it being his bad luck. Perhaps that dark omen was actually there for Eugene and not Christopher.😬
eugene and tony used to play basketball together at the Catholic Youth Organization tony was made in 1983 meanwhile eugene had to wait until the 2000s ''i dont know fucking slander you ask me''
There was a 10-month break between the airing of episodes 12 (end of S06 Part I) and 13 (start of S06 Part II) so... no spoilers but yes you could say there was a definite mid-season finale kinda vibe in there

David Chase did not want to pay the actors proper money so he filmed Season 6 and Season 7 as one season.
David Chase wasn't responsible for paying anyone anything - that would have been HBO's call. The 6A/6B split was partially due to contractual issues and also to Chase wanting more episodes to wrap up the series.

@@almondroca both the actors and David Chase admitted that was the reason for it, he literally said he filmed two seasons as one season so they wouldnt have to increase the salary of actors for Season 7
Hey guys. Enjoying the content but please dont put immediate spoilers at the beginning. We want to see the reaction when it happens. It takes away the surprise for us fans who already watched the show. Please dont do it again 😢

Gandolfinni really said f it between season 5 and 6. Ate anything in sight.
I was thinking the same thing he really did gain so much weight, it's so noticeable epically after watching the ending of season 5.
Tony complaining about never catching a break and cutting to Raymond dying right before implicating Tony in a murder will never stop being hilarious.
yeah, as well as they all praising the dude for what a good mobster he was :D
I liked that little interaction with Hesh and Chris at the hospital. "Sorry for yelling at you, kid". Anyway, $4 a pound.

Eugene was probably caught for jury tampering. He was the one who intimidated the juror in Junior's trial.

I think Chris getting promoted ahead of Eugene is a case of nepotism. He didn't earn it.
Yes, Cristin Milioti plays one of Johnny Sack's daughters, it was probably one of her first tv gigs.
32:31 yup. Uncle Junior vs Little Malanga is a beef we never saw

Eugene should have kept his mouth shut and dissapeared.
You can’t “disappear” from the FBI in the long term. Especially with a family.
FBI held him back but telling Tony you just got 2 million was a dumb move
