Nord Drum 3P - BEST PRESETS OVERVIEW

    Some improvisations on the presets that I like in the Nord Drum 3p.
    I'm using a Roland KT-10 for kick trigger. The stand is a combination of the Pearl UX-80 and a regular cymbal stand.
    Sticks: Vic Firth SD2 Bolero.
    I didn't process the sound so it's just a clean recording of the Nord Drum 3P.
    Video recorded by Abel Boquera.

    Really would like to hear if it can do some Simmons style 80s toms.Like Genesis' Home By The Sea drum break. It seems that most of the toms or bass drums don't really have a lot of bass or power behind them. I know you can tweak it but none of the demos really had any "oomph" to it.

    Hello Antonio
    I would love to ask you a question. I have owned the Roland Spds, and Spd30. I sold them both because the pad sensitivity was not consistent throughout the entire zone of each pad.....meaning it was not always registering a hit unless i was very near the center of the pad. ( my Drumkat has perfect response even to the edge ) It appears that the nord triggers anywhere ( like the Drumkat). What’s your feelings about the Nord triggering zones and it’s sensitivity? Thankyou, Dave

    • @antonio.miyagi
      @antonio.miyagi  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Hi Dave!! The 3p has a very good sensitivity and it is consistent throughout the entire zone of each pad. Much better than my spd sx. Besides, the feeling and the evolution of the sounds in different velocities makes it even more playable. For example you can make a sound shorter when it's played soft and longer when it's played hard. I hope I have helped you. 😊

    What's the AUX IN on the Roland kick trigger for? Can you use it to make it into a double bass pedal of sorts? It's a shame that Nord didn't put the option for _two_ pedals (hi-hat and kick or double kick).
    My one worry about buying this thing is that I'm gonna hit the electronics deck with my stick sooner or later and ruin it.

    Hi Antonio,
    Does the type of kick pedal matters?

    • @OttosTheName
      @OttosTheName 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Cheap pedals don't feel like real pedals used on acoustic kits. So if you come from an acoustic kit that might be an issue for you. There are also some cheap pedals that have a very crappy switch or a weak spring that stops working properly after a while. These Roland pedals (KT-10) are pretty popular but still pretty affordable compared to a lot of drum stuff (drum stuff is expensive). No idea if this one does feel like a real pedal, but they get good reviews so they're probably at least durable.

      Thank you for your comment Richard, but I'm not an expert in that kind of music. Actually I'm pretty bad playing it :)
      The Nord Drum 3p is a synthetizer for drums (not sampler-based). Maybe you are looking for something different, like a Roland Spd-SX where you can load any sample that you like.

    • @richardwilliams1310
      @richardwilliams1310 7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I prefer the look and tweakability of the Nord, as a performance instrument & music making tool, but my preference in music would certainly suit the Roland product more, using any sample you want. Alternately maybe I should be investigating trigger to midi options. I could see myself using an audio interface & daw with drum sampler or the Akai MPC Touch, NI Maschine or Ableton Live with Push 2 or Novation Circuit, Korg Electribe S, Korg Volca Sample, etc but with some sticks and pads to enter midi notes. I like the form factor of the original Nord Pad but it wasn't a stand alone product and I liked the tweakability of the Nord Drum/2 module and the Nord Drum 3P is basically those products combined. I guess I really need to save some cash, do some research and actually go and try one where possible, although in Australia I am sure not many retail outlets have these set up for demo, so TH-cam demos become quite important. Hence why tech savvy retailers are doing online demos for products they sell, so people can just buy it with a few clicks.

      Nope, but it can do FM synthesis, subtractive synthesis and physical modeling (or resonant synthesis). It can make very realistic drum sounds that respond to velocity so you get a very dynamic sound. I don't know if it's indistinguishable from real, but I've heard some fan-tas-tic sounds coming from these. Personally I don't even mind it not playing samples because this is much more tweakable and more dynamic.

      @@uncoiledfish2561 You can use it as a Midi Controller and trigger samples that way. However it doesn't have USB Midi, so you would need some sort of USB Midi converter thingy. You can get pretty cheap (€15) adapters, they might not handle Midi CC or some other things all that well, you can also get better ones for more money and you can also get Audio Interfaces with Midi built in.
