Chris when i was in Belize during the monsoon season we cut a ping pong ball in half and made a small hole in both halfs then threaded them concave onto the hammock strings which ensured the downpour wouldnt end up on our sleeping gear.......its best to heat up a nail on a gas stove then pierce the ping pong ball ...keep it small and tight.
I love this video. Really hammering in the “keep it simple” attitude with pointing out all the things we really don’t need and the fact that normal string works just as well as a “real” ridge line. I think it’s a very good thing to try and hold back the materialistic stress that is almost ever present in the rest of the community.
Even easier way for beginners, just use hammock straps that have a single loop at the tree end like the straps in this video, but the other end has 7-10 permanent loops stitched in, with a carabiner each end of the hammock you just hook it onto which ever loop works for you, no lines or knots etc necessary for the hammock itself
Thanks for the video. I have been tent camping for awhile and just bought a cheap hammock and can’t wait to try it. I’m going to use your tips on setting it up. Can’t wait to try it.
Good stuff Mike, the beauty of it is that no matter how wet, boggy or uneven the ground is - you remain out of it and comfy. Check out 'Shug Emery' on TH-cam if you haven't already, he's the master of all things hammock.

Great vid, thanks for posting. Love your marlin spike! I've been camping all my life, (68 yrs) just bought a hammock last fall of 2022. It was around a hundred bucks, US. The only thing I didn't like, and fixed with sturdier cord, was the dizzy sensation I got every time I moved, and the rig started swinging side to side.
Thanks very much for the video which is really handy. I recently tried out a friend's hammock in the garden and really enjoyed it so going to get one of my own and try some wild camping. Great to see how to attach all the strapping to the trees and hammock. Tree huggers and whoppie slings sound a good idea. Looking forward to getting out there!
Good video. I put a metal ring on the continuous loop at the hammock then put the whoopie sling on the other side of the metal ring. This then provides a water break at the ring to help keep you dry.
Very informative video, I learnt a lot. I like the idea that you can pitch a hammock pretty much anywhere as long as you have 2 fixed points. Gives you much more scope to wild camp. Cheers Chris

I've only been camping for like 6 months, and have been out with my hammock like 7 out 8 times. I'm getting pretty good at getting my perfect hang, but I've been looking for a ridgeline with that open space between the lives at both ends so i can bring the tarp down a little closer without the ridgeline rubbing on the hammock suspension. The ridgeline you have is remarkablely simple and genius, I'm almost embarrassed that i didn't think of that setup myself. Do you still use it? No problems with it wanting to slide down the tree?
I am a side sleeper...but have a hammock and never used it because of that. Are they ok for a side sleeper? Thanks for the video and your FB group is great!

Great vid on how simple it real is. Few year back I went down that rabbit hole of hammocks and boy was I overwhelmed. Got it on for the most part but there is a lot out there. Shug is also a good one to watch. Great job
I'm totally sold on hammock camping... recreational camping, bug-out, at home. I had to go through three hammocks before I found the ONE, a 12 foot long double wide Onewind with mosquito netting, tree straps, ridgeline, etc included. I love hammock camping in the woods light and easy to carry no heavy tent to carry 3mx3m Tarp you will stay dry you are right about those hammock tree hugger straps I have them strong and sturdy and will not slip .

Good video but I would point out that your drip knots need to be under the cover of your tarp close to the end of the hammock otherwise you can still get water running down.
Cheers Neil and thanks for the info - I didn't know that - and always happy to take on board feedback. On my other hammocks, I've used carabiners between the hammock and whoopie sling and these act as a drip stop in themselves. Chris
My girlfriend and I are going to buy hammocks soon. We just bought our tent and said enough ground sleeping! We are just getting into camping because our cats love to adventure.
I live 5 miles from The Great Smoky Mountains National Park, In the warm weather, I sleep in a hammock, In the cold weather, I sleep in a tent. My choice in sleep system is a direct reflection of the environment I'm operating in.
Why would you make it so much more difficult than the makers of your gear? What happened to your karabiner? And why do you use the tree huggers different than DD? What's the benefit of the toggle compared to the karabiner? th-cam.com/video/q3a1pJY5JJM/w-d-xo.html
It's one of the most simplistic ways of suspending a hammock. Tree huggers and whoopee slings - check out 'Shugemery' for further videos on this topic.
Mate your using the tree huggers wrong man they look same as dd ones why not use the dd suspension setup you wrap the hugger round and put the carabiner thru both openings on the tree hugger then adjust the height with the dd system well easier

👍
@@MCMOutdoors would even be better to see you both doing a collaboration wild camp!
Chris
good stuff mate
Cheers Gary

My girlfriend and I are going to buy hammocks soon. We just bought our tent and said enough ground sleeping! We are just getting into camping because our cats love to adventure.
Great to hear, enjoy your hammocks!
I live 5 miles from The Great Smoky Mountains National Park, In the warm weather, I sleep in a hammock, In the cold weather, I sleep in a tent.
My choice in sleep system is a direct reflection of the environment I'm operating in.
Idyllic place you live ⛰️
Came for hammock info. Stayed for the into music!

Facts
Tarps are wise even if its not raining bird poo is never funny 😂
Thanks for watching 👍
Didn’t think of that!
But how are we watching this if you walked off and left your camera in the woods?
Thanks for the video.
Cheers, thanks for watching Frank
Why would you make it so much more difficult than the makers of your gear? What happened to your karabiner? And why do you use the tree huggers different than DD? What's the benefit of the toggle compared to the karabiner? th-cam.com/video/q3a1pJY5JJM/w-d-xo.html
It's one of the most simplistic ways of suspending a hammock. Tree huggers and whoopee slings - check out 'Shugemery' for further videos on this topic.
@@MCMOutdoors thanks, he seems fun. I still think a karabiner is much easier than the toggle knot.
No worries - just experiment and find what works best for you - most of all, enjoy your hammock camping adventures ⛰️👍
Mate your using the tree huggers wrong man they look same as dd ones why not use the dd suspension setup you wrap the hugger round and put the carabiner thru both openings on the tree hugger then adjust the height with the dd system well easier
This technique works well for me mate, but thanks for the tip 👍
