  • 4H 5th Generation 4Runner TRD ORP demo during the first snow storm of 2024. with stock AT20 Dunlop factory tires. There is no more a capable vehicle as the Toyota 4Runner at such a high quality level. We demonstrate 4H and how affective it is in winter storm conditions on hills, avoiding traffic jams, on unplowed roads. 4Runners come to life in bad weather, and this video fully proves it.

    Great video! I used to lease cars constantly in order to find the right one. I bought my, Mary Beth, new in 2016. She is a Trail Premium, which is the same as the TRD Off Road starting in 2017. I live on a hill in New England, so I immediately put BF Goodrich KO2 tires on her, as I have major back problems, and can't shovel snow anymore. 8 years later, this gal hasn't had any problems, and still has no squeaks or rattles. She is the best car I've ever had. I'm 67, and have had more that 70 cars.

    I took mine out early morning 2nd day of the storm before the plows started. You nailed it this car does "come alive" in this weather and tears through everything and stays steady. I have original all seasons(not snow tires) and it was still a beast(all in 4H of course). None of the other cars could compete and there were plenty of spin outs on the side of the road and having difficulty staying in a straight line. I love this "bank vault" of a truck. Fun video thanks

      My eyes were wincing from the storm ⛈️ nailing my glasses and eyes at the video start lol. Thank you 😊 Edgie for your enthusiasm and kind video feedback👍😎. Great to have you and your support. You are correct pound for pound dollar for dollar 💵 there is nothing more versatile or capable than a 5th Gen 4Runner unless you grab a military vehicle lol. Cannot believe sometimes the push back on the Dunlop AT20 tires balanced with the best 4X4 system available this side of the moon. Be safe, go 4Runners 😊 Best Terry ODTRP

    Nice video; I like videos showing 4Runner capabilities in snow. Bought our 2016 4Runner new; best purchase we've ever made. No issues at 157K; change fluids, filters, tires, brakes, spark plugs, and it just keeps going. I've been in 12 inch snows with no issues; running Toyo Open Country AT3's for past 50K; great tire. All you need is one bad experience in the snow to really start looking for a capable vehicle. This happened to me back in 2014 when I had my 2010 Mazda 6 and kept getting stuck in the snow on the way back home from work. I've had my 2016 4Runner Trail since June 2017 and it really shines in this type of weather. 188.5K miles and I have no regrets with my purchase. And yes, I too never cared about fuel economy haha. I'm keeping this bad boy till the wheels fall off. Well, probably frame rust is what will do my 4Runner in 🫠

      On fuel economy it is only one part of the Total Ownership Cost of a vehicle. There are things we can do to increase 4Runner fuel economy like a TRD CAI, better octane, etc. you get it all back in resale, long life, no recalls

My truck has always done well but it definitely took some creative driving on my end to keep things moving and safe. Needless-to-say, I was uncomfortable and decided it was time for a change. Had some good amount of snowfall this past week in Toronto, took my 19 Limited out. An absolute beast for performance in such weather, but I definitely recommend getting some proper winter tires for extra control. ABS really works and helps in the snow with stopping, mostly due to my car being on all seasons. If you’re getting a 4Runner, make sure to have some proper tires too

They were good on road but pretty bad in weather or offroad. I got cooper discoverer all terrain on road(great tire). Not overly expensive. I looked into the bf goodrich and good years. Only problem I had was my windshield washer fluid froze 😮. It got down around 10 degrees which is rare for us to get that cold even though it got colder. I had all season fluid that was good till 0 degree before freezing as it said on the bottle. This was Prestone brand. They lied, it was froze at 10 degrees. You talk about nervous for reservoir tank cracked or pump but all was good once thawed. I'm switching to -34 once I get this fluid out 😉

    Nice. I've driven the 4Runner (21 Venture), the Sequoia (19 Plat) and two different Tacomas (2nd Gen and 3rd Gen) in snow -- mostly on stock or mild all terrain 3 peak tires. In all cases, the 4Runner felt more planted, event with a load in the back of the Tacomas. The Sequoia was a close second. If you have a 4Runner and see this, don't trade it in, just keep it. If you are thinking about buying one, get one and match the tires to your needs. I miss mine enough to go buy another one, probably.

    Always loved Toyota trucks. Bought a Brand New V8 4Runner Limited in 2005 and thought it would be my forever vehicle but there actually wasn’t enough head room for me, my head bumped the frame around the sunroof and there was a wheel vibration that they couldn’t correct. All that combined with the low mpg and I sold it in 2010. I did have a little fun with it like you are here. I really wished it would have worked out. I’ve since moved on to Acura vehicles. For the most part I see the styling of the 4Runner hasn’t changed much in 19 years, just updated tech.

    Glad to see you're excited about your 4Runner, but this was like maybe 2 inches of snow. Every other car on the road also goes right through it easily. Make sure to powerwash your frame after driving on salted roads to avoid frame rot. I traded both of my 4Runners in because they both developed rusty frames that started to rot out.

    • @OnDownTheRoadProductions
      @OnDownTheRoadProductions  5 หลายเดือนก่อน

    • @Japplesnap
      @Japplesnap 5 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@OnDownTheRoadProductions II true, it's not working. My cousin has a 2020 4Runner and his is already very rusty underneath. It starts as surface rust and gets worse and worse until the frame eventually rots out. There's a video out focusing on the new Tacoma and that Toyota went to great lengths to mitigate frame rust by eliminate pockets and moisture traps in the frame as well as better protection on the metal itself. So there's hope for the upcoming 6th generation 4Runner if it does in fact use the Tacoma's upgraded frame. But for the current 4Runners, they are still a mess and that's exactly what made me stop buying 4Runners.

      The 4Runner is number one ☝️ due to world class 4X4 systems. It drives on stock tires like it had studs enjoy your Jeep with the Stellantis build quality and that Fiat V6. Apparently as the video shows we drove over tons of ice.

      I own a 2023 4Runner TRD off road premium..Snow tires with studs make a big difference, especially when stopping..I have lived in western Montana all of my life and the best form of traction is the use of tire chains..Using the wrong tires will get you in trouble real fast..No need to get snarky..@@OnDownTheRoadProductions
