    Your conversational english is awesome! I feel like when people learn languages the old fashioned way, they speak so formally and people dont speak formally when they're talking with each other. How you say "ya know what i mean" and "aaanyway" between sentences is so natural! It gives me hope that I will be like that using your tips.

      That's because I've learned a lot through movies, magazines etc... instead of school books :)

    You people in the comments commenting about her body need to quit, I mean maybe she likes the attention, but seriously??
    She's wearing a BLACK MUSCLE TEE like really? she barely has cleavage and she's not like shimmying everywhere. Disgusting, you're all looking for something to be inappropriate about.

      KiLLED5639 90% of the people in the Netherlands speak English well. That's a MASSIVE amount considering the 95% in the GB. And yes, it's a second language. The primary language is dutch. Quite a lot of European countries have high percentage English speakers. France CLEARLY lagging behind.

    • @whitey7599
      @whitey7599 9 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      MrQwerty2524 There seems to be a competition between anglophones and French people to see who has the higher percentage of monolinguals.
      I was in France last summer and because I am an English man who speaks French I was told that I am really exotic - which made me laugh as I have never been described as exotic before.

    I'm french too, and like you I started learning English by myself through movies, Songs ect.. and now I'm taking English courses to learn the grammar and all that stuffs, and turns out that really made big progress in English , I'm not saying that I'm fluent, but since then English became a language that I really love learning, sometimes I even dream in English or often when I wanna say something in French, I have the sentence in English in my head and I completely forget to say it in French (it's annoying for people around me) but I can't help it, I'm pretty sure You know what I'm talking about :) because yeah the stereotype is true French people are very lazy when it comes to learn a foreign language I'm not one of them though lol and for me there's on thing that really really annoys me ... when you SOOOO want to speak English with people that you come across the street but you can't, because you know that they will not understand a word of what you're gonna say, it's kinda frustrating. Also I can't spend a day without using English, it's really addictive. ho yeah!! one last thing, sounds weird but since I'm learning English my spelling in French becomes awful, "I kinda lose my French" if I may say so

    What about Chinese, Japanese, Arabic? Ever thought of those? English is one of the easiest language for us French folks so I get your point and you're mainly right but please give me a Chinese magazine I'm not gonna have a hard time reading since I know well only 500 characters. There aren't any! So don't be too naive young lady cuz knowing only english and some spanish doesn't give much expertise about how to deal with other much harder languages I'm afraid. I'm just saying... And sorry also but speaking english doesn't make you any special, hope you know that

    Thanks for the tips. As a language learner this really helps. I have been doing what you mentioned for my targeted language(French), that is watching films with subtitles. It did distract me a little to be honest, so I watched a comedy French show without subtitles and it worked, understood a little, learnt new words and got the gist of things haha. But I believe watching with subtitles, at least the first time, is okay as it helps with the understanding of the story. I'm from London, England :)

    I thought I would try what you suggested, and turned on the Sub-Titles, on your video while you were giving your tips, and the translation was not very good at all (I could understand what you were saying, but the English sub-titles did not match what you were saying), I am not sure how they create the sub-titles, but this would really confuse me if I was trying to learn another language and the sub-titles were wrong.
    You have some good tips, thank you for doing this video.

  • @azforthlol
    @azforthlol 11 ปีที่แล้ว

    I hope my explanation made sense. Remember that "true" adjectives as in "The happy man" are not working in the same way as when you use an adjective as a predicate as in "The man is so happy". E.g "I saw such a happy man today" or "Today I saw a man who was so happy!". "We're having such good weather" or "The weather we're having is so good!". Rule of thumb, only use "so" this way if you've already introduced the noun that is "so" whatever, otherwise use "such".

I'm very comfortable with the basics & some more difficult aspects like ordering in restaurants, talking about myself etc etc. I'm going to Paris in Sep & would love to be able to speak the language a little better. That is what I am learning now.....how to communicate in a casual way. You are right, you can't just learn a language from books and classrooms. That is a great way to learn the basics and correct grammar but then you need to surround yourself by native speakers and not be afraid to make mistakes!

    It's quite incredible actually. I mean as long as she can be understood and she understands what we say to her, then she speaks it well. That's my way of determining how well somebody speaks a language. What is your first language? I'm getting the idea that English is your first language, and that you don't speak anything else. Now I don't know that for sure, but if that is true, you have no right to tell someone their ability in a language.

    I do agree with spending time in the country, as I lived in Tunisia when very young (English mother, Tunisian father) and my mum picked up Arabic much quicker living out there.
    On moving back to the UK very young, I however forgot my Arabic :( (was fluent), any tips on recovering a lost language?

    Yes, it's legend that Parisians are proud of their own language and culture. That's why they become opened when the foreigners try to learn their language and culture because that means those are valuable to learn. This is what I heard from my French teacher from my school who has been in France quite a few times (with her students)

    WHat really helped me out with spanish is that i love latin music, translating songs helps so much ! I started spanish at age 14 and by the time I was 17 I was very good in spanish (but not "fluent", and I still don't consider myself fluent)

    "So the exceptions are...." This is the first exception, when "so" is used as an interjection, in this case it means only "well" or "right" or "see here", no need to worry too much about this usage. The second exception is more complicated and not used very often in normal spoken English so don't worry about it too much.. "So great a man as he, will surely protect the farm", notice here that the rule that says [so] must be followed by an adjective has NOT been broken!

    It was very nice of you to make this video to help people learn English with all your tips. I'm sorry there are people that sticks to the bad sides of the form you took to do so. It was very nice to see how corageous you are to try to motivate people to learn English although you're still learning it. I mean, I beleive it's very important to speak and not to be shy so that we practise the language we are trying to learn. To see the humble you are just can inspire other people to dare so. See U!

    Your English is great. Don't worry about accent.....your vocab is great and so is your sentence structure. I am an anglophone from Canada and my husband is from France. I studied French all my life through to the university level and was also a French teacher but I struggle with casual conversation

    Way to go !
    In fact, if you can find an entertaining way to use the language you are trying to learn, then you will learn fast. My case : I played video games in english, and I got a quite good level in the language. What did I do to get better ? I read english (original in fact) version of fantasy books I already read in french (my native language). What to do next ? well, I'm aiming for another language for now, but maybe songs or series are a good way to improve your knowledge in a language.

    I always say that I am "fluent", meaning that I can say what I have to say easily in english. I never say I'm bilingual, which would mean my english is perfect. I mentioned very clearly in the video that my english is NOT perfect !! Yet, it's fluent (to me, fluent means "effortless", not flawless)

    Hey ! I'm french too, and I loooove english. I mean, if I could speak english everyday as a mother language and use it everyday in France, it would be so cool ! But I've lost a lot of my level in this tongue. The fact is I entered University and the courses sucked so badly I've lost all my level and all the class did. Fortunatly there's a language lab' in my Uni, where you can really improve your english or whatever language you want. Please continue your vids, you're doing a really great job !

    Next - not looking up words may be fatal as you may end up getting the wrong idea or not get the sense at all. besides, looking up the words "right now" helps to memorise them. chances are, that you will find that word you dont know more often in the following sentences anyway

    @madlenox The sad truth is that there's not much good french series :-S
    "Foudre" is the only one I can think of, but it might not be the easier to understand. In France, "Plus belle la vie" is very popular, maybe u should give it a shot !!
