Congrats man, you captured the exact moment that would make any man in the world stop for a second and watch this video. Of course it's not because "Do we need to learn other languages or is English enough?"
I'll try to explain to English speakers why Portuguese speakers can understand Spanish. First, the languages are very similar. I can think of any sentence in Portuguese and it will almost be 70-80% similar to Spanish, sometimes 90% similar. Hoje, eu quero comer pão com manteiga, beber café e também suco de laranja. Hoy, yo quiero comer pan con mantequilla, beber café y también zumo/jugo de naranja. While visibly different languages, they are very similar. Then, there's the assimetrical intelligibility. Portuguese speakers understand 50-90% of Spanish, while Spanish speakers understand 20-60% of Portuguese. Why is that? Sounds, that's all. Portuguese invetory of sounds is very rich. Only in terms of vowels we have a, ã, é, ê, êi, ô, ó, õ, I, î, u, û, ão. Portuguese speakers know what sounds I'm refering to (my keyboard is limited). Spanish has (officially) a, e, i, o and u and a few diphtongs that pose no problem to Portuguese speakers like ie and ue. Then you have exposure, Spanish speakers don't listen much to Portuguese and Brazilian music, much less watch Portuguese language movies and series. Many native speakers of Portuguese will listen a lot to one or more Spanish language musician or band. And lastly, the Portuguese have an advantage over us Brazilians, in their news as well as their movies, they listen to the original languages with subtitles in Portuguese. So even, someone who only watches the sports news program that last 20 minutes from monday to friday will be exposed by Spanish consistently in small doses, be it a coach from Spain or a player from South America. Brazil dubs everythings that moves, and only occasionally you have the privilige of reading words on a screen bestowed to you.
and also I will add one reason from myself - that Spanish sounds more articulated than Portuguese, that's why it makes Spanish easier to understand for Portuguese speakers
@@TravelTonguesI'm not sure 'more articulate' is an objective category tho😅 maybe you mean the fact that Spanish sounds (and the written letters as well) tend to be pronounced more 'straightforward', meaning almost the same in all surroundings - whereas Portuguese diverged farther away from the vulgar Latin ancestor so each phoneme can vary widely, depending on the surrounding sounds. Also, languages that don't reduce vowels, like Spanish, tend to be more beginner-friendly, especially when learning also the written language.
@@EvenRoyalsNeedToUrinate yeah, it is objective, I mean that if for example for me I don't know Spanish and neither Portugues for now, but if I hear Spanish phrase I can repeat it but with Portugues it doesn't work.
@@TravelTongues I'm not saying your point isn't valid! It's just that that's your subjective perspective with your linguistic background (Ukrainian/Russian I guess?) and that's OK. This doesn't mean that speakers of e.g. Greenlandic or Hokkien would feel the same about repeating a phrase in these languages tho 😅 Obviously, Spanish has a simple vowel system (a, e, i, o, u) so every speaker of a language with a similar vowel system like Polish, Indonesian etc will agree with you that Spanish is easier. I'm not sure speakers of Danish, French or Vietnamese with much more vocal diversity and possibly other similarities will feel the same. They may, but it's hard to say
@@EvenRoyalsNeedToUrinate I like your point of view! Everything is subjective and linguistic background plays an important role in language learning. PS. u guessed right, Im ukrainian=)
The Portuguese and Spanish languages are very similar, so you can understand what the other is really saying although the Portuguese find it easier to speak Spanish than it is for us Spanish speakers to understand Portuguese in its entirety, but that's okay. Finally, the Spanish language is becoming a more universal language like English is today and that seems excellent to me because it has many benefits in all possible aspects.

In this case, a reasonable conclusion would be: "The West is bad." But your conclusion goes further: "Oh, the West is bad, this must mean that Russia is good". Do you at least try to learn 10 or so sentences when you are away?
That girl is beautiful and charming.
I have a TH-cam channel. A lot of the content is in different languages. I speak French, Spanish, Catalan, Italian, Portuguese, Polish and Romanian. I'm English.
Ok fine mate you got me with the thumbnail, are you happy now?😂
you didn't enjoy the video?
@@TravelTongues Nah its a good video man, keep it up👍
@ thanks!
At first, I thought he was Brazilian!
I'm from India
I can speak English, Hindi, Urdu and Arabia
Jhooth mat bolo bhai arabi padh lete. Bol nhi pate hoge
I think now days a lot of individuals speak 3 languages at least, since English now became a default language besides your mother tongue
I would say 2. That's what I see when I talk to people. For now English and mother tongue.
Yes, we definitely do because the English language is way too boring.
men of culture we meet again
Eu não sabia que os portugueses eram tão bonita 🤩
Não são só brasileiras ou latinas eu acho🤩
How do you approach people for your videos? Do you ask them for permission?
Thanks for your work
Of course I ask permission first and only after I start record video.
IG girl in purple?
Don't have it
Me parece muy arrogante la pregunta del vídeo. Solo una pequeña parte de la población mundial sabe hablar inglés. Si vas a un país no angloparlante, estas preguntas estúpidas ni se pensarían
Not everyone speaks English…my mother for example speaks Polish, German and Russian on a very good level but barely speaks any English
The census of SIMPs has started.📝
what does that mean?
Good video, keep going
@@allaboutenglish5706 thank you!
Dang…maybe I need to jump on the Portuguese train bruh. Everyone dang near speaks it. It must be good for something
For clarification, it wasn’t just this video but watch the video about how many languages do you speak “New York” edition
probably because a lot of brazilians in US and all over the world=)
@@TravelTongues I do know Portuguese actually and love the language but also I have a friend that speaks it and is from Brazil. I hardly speak it with him though cause I’m unsure if you really wants to lol ya know how some people get after using English for so long. They get excited that you know their native language but then never wanna speak it half the time
@@dancingmoonproductions hahah yea, thats true!

Very good learn speak some lenguage.
Portuguese is definitely spoken quicker than Spanish 😂 I'm not sure ig Portuguese from Portugal or brazil is faster. Probably Brazil because they reduce all words and connect them 😂
same as in European Portuguese=) on my opinion, Portuguese people speak faster
which university is it?
just random people on the street
Please more German speakers, Germany is the powerhouse of the EU.

the girl in the preview, who's she???
Just portuguese girl which I met on the street that day.

bro whatcamera do you use, i want to do this type of video in brazil
some times I use DJI action camera, some times only my phone - this one also enough.
@@TravelTongues whats your phone? iphone 14?
@@jonescast4999 I have iphone 13. It can make 4k video. even iphone 8 can make 4k video. But you can use any phone what you have and it will be enough at the beginning.
Algum brasileiro/brasileira aqui que queria me ajudar a praticar ao fone? :P
Por favor, preciso alguma com quem posso falar:')
The Portugees girls are so beautifyl and adorable, true SUUUUUIIIII country

@@TravelTongues Neither do I, but this was my first impression during watching your video
Beautiful looking

Fakk, I clicked on video cuz of those two mellons 😢😢😢😢😢ohhh God pls help me !! My focus is dispersing, diverting 😢
Damn!😂You need prayers dude
bro, with a face like that..who even needs melons lol
English is enough. Other languages u can learn as a hobby to learn new cultures, it is not very useful unless you come to live in a country. as for myself I read in6 languages.
@@ivanovichdelfin8797 I said I know 6 languages. im not limited. English is the language of business. People who come to Dubai speak english. u dont even have to learn arabic. that's the real life. rRght now English is lingua franca whether u like it or not
@@ivanovichdelfin8797 if the majority dont know english ellos se limitan a su proprio pais as u have already mentioned. so u just contradict yourself. apparently they should learn english in order to communicate with other people. Shame they dont do it
Dont reduce the useness of a language only for business otherwise I d agree
Ah yes Portugal represented nicely
Just came here to dislike the video for the thumbnail. You ain't getting my view
what the problem with the thumbnail? it is just screenshot what you can on the video while you gonna watch the video.
they don't even speak proper engish, probably just b1 level
You re right, It lacks a proper definition of speaking a language
It would be nice if more people would choose to learn Esperanto as it is quicker to reach fluency in that language and it is used much more widely than many people assume.
I have never heard about Esperanto before, just googled it and it is really good idea, but I don't think it has a chance to develop nowadays
English is enough because its the best
@@hayabusa1329 😁😁
Why is it the best? Obviously is not
@@De-Toro because everyone learns English 🤣

A few Russian sympathisers in this video. Send them to chat with Putin on why he's caused the slaughter of thousands of people
He's defending his people against threat.
Go and ask the US government how much money their weapons manufacturing friends are making from this stitch up.
You are lost, the globalists cause wars not individuals
@@Kitiwake You, Sir, seem to have made a strange conclusion here:
Let's assume that the West was in fact a threat to the Russian Federation. Obviously there's a lot of discussion to what extent this truly was the case, but let's assume the West "was first" with their threats.
In this case, a reasonable conclusion would be: "The West is bad."
But your conclusion goes further: "Oh, the West is bad, this must mean that Russia is good".
Classic psychological bias: one side being wrong doesn't imply that the other side is right.
So, my advice: keep criticizing the West but be careful not to fall for the other propaganda, it may be even more dangerous.
@@EvenRoyalsNeedToUrinate dude don't waste your time! They are suffering from whataboutism😅
I am among those 'sympathisers' regretting for not making learning Russian a priority, would have been great getting Mr Putin's message untranslated instead of watered down translated versions from the neocons.
