    I knew that hairspray was good for this. Never tried it before. After leveling my bed for the 8th time and getting a failed first layer everytime, I have searched for this video to learn how to apply it. Watched it, grabbed my mom's hairspray, sprayed it as shown. Started my print. Here I am staring at a gorgeous print being made. Amazing first layer stuck great. Thanks

      @@messagetotheuniverse after this i bought a glue stick... i never knew that would make my life much much easier. It is very hard to clean the hairspray but glue stick is much much better. Just a bit of water and wipe it off. Glue stick > hairspray. Hairspray is better for maybe larger projects

      If you have a removable flexible build plate, you basically have to add some kind of adhesive. I have never had good luck getting anything to stick on flexible removable build surfaces without some kind of adhesive. Hairspray works on 90% of plastic types. Glue stick will work for the rest. Spray away from the build plate and always clean up after using glue sticks. It can be a pain if you leave the glue on and keep reapplying.

      @@Kendiyastro you better watch your z offset while using glue stick, if the nozzle scrubs the bed that nastly glue gonna fill inside the nozzle and clog it, it doesn't even come out with the push of filament and you gotta clean the entire nozzle just because of that, happened to me twice or thrice , spent a week to figure out the problem, its been 6 months I havent used glue stick or any kind of glue at all

    I’ve found that the cheapest hair sprays (Aquanet, Suave, et. al.) are the best. Some of the fancier hairsprays seem to do worse, and I’m guessing it’s because of additives such as moisturizers, conditioners, and sun protectants.
    I’ve had great luck with cheap hairspray on my build plate, and I seem to need to reapply it once every couple weeks or so.

  • @spasecookee
    @spasecookee 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    Another reason to use hairspray is as a separation agent when printing PETG or TPU. A small layer of spray will help prevent the print from permanently sticking to and destroying your build surface.

    do you know what the active chemical for adhesion in hair spray is? some hair sprays dont work for me. i found that ones that have copolymer in their ingredients tend to work a little better (but not perfect). sometimes they put dexpanthenol or other "care" substances (oily) in there that actually reduce your adhesion. Did you use the same stuff for your nano copolymer stuff?

      Hey Shetika! You apply it typically before each print, it provides a stickier surface to stick to so you dont get issues with lifting or popping off mid print.

    I already use hairspray, have the bed on 80°C and the nozzle on 215°C and my prints still lose contact to the bed after a few layers. The first layers are printing fine, but thant after maybe 3-5 layers some corners lift up. Any further suggestions? It`s an Ender-3 Max and I only print PLA so far.

    • @VisionMiner
      @VisionMiner  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      If PLA isn't sticking at 80c, with hairspray, it's probably the wrong hairspray -- they all use different chemicals. You can get a sample of our adhesive at visionminer.com/sample, but it's strange you're not getting results at all at those temps...

    • @hasso0n
      @hasso0n 3 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      80c is too hot for PLA, 60c should be max for PLA.

    • @davidhuston1966
      @davidhuston1966 ปีที่แล้ว

      The temperature recommendation is usually written by the manufacturer on each roll. So I would pay attention to that, also it depends on the printer. Cheaper printers use and require higher temps

    im a caveman... my plate heats up in less than a minute so i just grab the plate off the magnetic plate and place the plate on a chair next to the printers and give it a four passes in a z shape then flip 180 degree and repeat, then a small circle and larger circle. the fine mist covers more less to a "flat" surface :) the heat from the plate seems to dry out the hairspray real fast and the prints stick even better as if the spray gets annealed or something.
    try ur self and see it sticks even better ;)

    wait, you're saying to level the bed. Then remove the bed, use hairspray, and not relevel the bed. it would be near impossible to level the bed covered in hairspray. I've sprayed hairspray jsut find while my bed is on the printer. You can't think that I"m so careless as to not be able to spray hairspay like i spray bullets in a zombia apocolypse. c'mon. This video is completely ridiculous and useless unless you have an ABL system, and what's worse is they put a TON of hairspray on that play.
