I can't lie, this run was incredibly fun, and it was a pleasure to run into you as always Jen!
I think it's really the nostalgia factor that makes these so interesting - You really can't get anything like this anymore. The comfort, the ride quality, the styling, it's all very retro.

the comfort and no airplane style seats is what i love about them.. and used to back in the day growing up .. no way will folk in the future think much of todays trains like they do these old ladies

And the Mark 3 ones too. They used to run between Liverpool Street and Norwich on the great eastern main line (GEML) until around June 2020. The doors open and close manually. I think those were one of the only trains in frequent service where the doors do not open/close automatically. Replaced Class 745 FLIRT

The roar of the B4 bogies helps lull you to sleep. If that doesn’t, the sumptuous seats will! The brakes are definitely noisy though. Still far nicer to travel in than today’s stuff.

Had both of those locos for haulage back in the day. 47 826 was a Virgin Cross Country loco before the Vomiters came! I think I'm right in saying it was the loco painted in Police livery, as part of a "stop kids lurking on the lineside" campaign!
47 813 was a Great Western loco, and I rode behind it on my first ever trip along the Dawlish seawall. It was August 2002I was in Plymouth and wanted to ride Virgin Cross Country 47s along the seawall before their impending replacement by.....you know what! I had 47 805 from Plymouth to Exeter St Davids, where, having two hours before a 47 (a Great Western one) was due back, so I did a 150 (yeah, I like modern stuff too!) down to Exmouth, had an ice cream on the prom and came back, and yeah, 47 813 took me back to Plymouth!
Yeah, that is Mk 2 stock, which would have been used on those Cross Country services back in the day, as well as being hauled by electrics on Euston-BNS/Wolverhampton trains. The Mk 3s were usually used on the longer West Coast trains, as well as forming the stock of the HSTs! And yeah, both are far superior comfort wise to pretty much most modern trains!

What do I like about heritage trains? They are trains. Class 47s were great locomotives when I was a young teenager train spotter. Yesterday at work a Class 40 and a Class 45 came through coupled together. Wow, this old train spotter was super excited. I’m also excited about our new 701s.

Oooh, I wonder if this was the same set/stock that ran the extra Liverpool Street - Peterborough services for one weekend a few months ago? I'm glad you had fun, there's definitely a really cool novelty to getting to ride vintage/heritage trains on the mainline as they're just such a rarity nowadays outside of railtours? Especially when most of the time, the older coaches are just way more comfortable than any modern stuff!

Understanding what trains were like is important in understanding todays failings. British Rail had its issues but it provided a service where you just turned up and bought a ticket to travel where you wanted to go to - it was a public service as well as being public transport. There was also a lot less region discrimination. None of the concept of the new trains go to the south and the old ones remain in the north. As for engines like the Class 47 were developed in the 1960s and a fair few of them are around today. Whats the life of a new piece of rolling stock these days?

  • @MasterMoyle

You should consider filming more older trains as they are known to get high views. Steam traction is a popular one and throughout most of the time iv been on TH-cam iv filmed steam tours. Travelling on-board one could be something you could consider as although fares wise they aren't cheap, if you we're to travel on the Scarborough Spa Express between York and Scarborough it's only £50pp.

But this is my opinion with these type of trains, it is probably going to garner me a lot of hate, f**k it, it's my opinion, I'm welcome to it but hopefully you'll get the basic idea of where I am coming from
I really do hate when companies put these kind of trains on because they advertise them for certain people and then you have the "bashers" coming out of the woodwork because, oh, we must bash this train to Liverpool and we must bash it back to get the other loco for haulage. Don't get me wrong, it's nice to see them out and about for the nostalgia purpose but when you have the "bashers" abusing the train just so they can say, oh I got 47 haulage, it's not right
Maybe that is me just being old school or something but if it was put on as a way of a relief train for Eurovision, it should be for those people
