Century III Mall Demolition - May 30, 2024

The parking deck continues its evolution into dust. We also get a glimpse of the pin system used to hold the walls of the deck in place.
Demo work continues inside the mall, with most progress apparently taking place in JC Penney. Of note, the exterior signs and glass panes over the entrances have been removed, and the north doors have been removed to let equipment inside. It’s still unknown if Penney’s or Sears will be the last building standing. I would guess that exterior demo will start near Wards after the last of the deck comes down, but I have no specific details that confirm that theory.

What if they demolished Century 3 Mall with a giant wrecking ball?

It might do well with the exterior walls, depending on if they actually are brick or concrete formed to look like brick.
Excavators do the job faster, though a wrecking ball was used a fair bit at the Landmark Mall in VA.
