- Numerous sections of the deck, as well as the bridge connecting Sears, have been dropped. I got bored of seeing nothing but cleanup the last several times I’ve been to the mall, so I took a drive around to check on the front side of the mall, as well as some other vacant buildings nearby.
Most recently, DSW closed, and its labelscar is very visible, much more so than JC Penney. While I don’t remember what was in the building in the last shot, I know half of it was Party City at some point. Does anyone remember what occupied the other half? There’s a Mattress World scar visible, but I remember Party City taking up the entire building.
A lot of undeveloped space around that mall yet it had a multilevel parkade structure...
It used it, too. There’s a picture floating around from the mid-1980’s that shows all but 3 parking spaces filled up. There were cars parked along the perimeter of the lot and the deck all the way around the mall.
The mall is at the bottom of a massive hill of a slag, built in between a road that runs up to more shopping centers, route 51 and next to the mall there’s another massive strip mall shopping center. I have never seen a survey of the property, but I think they actually used every bit of land possible on the parcel.
I can barely see a label scar for JCPenney. I assume that Neiswonger (the people who are destroying the mall) paid to have the JCPenney signs taken down.
They took the signs down themselves.
@@MrTsolar Did they unscrew the signs from the building, or did they destroy them as they were removing them?
@@GabetheSlacker I didn't see them remove the signs, but there is a JC Penney sign sitting outside against the building that's been removed but still intact. I imagine they saved the signs to sell them at a later date.
@@MrTsolar Maybe the one that is still intact might get sold to another mall that has a JCPenney.
