WOW. Most of these failed consoles are little more than retro emulation systems shoved in a fancy looking case. Nothing more than a cheap used computer can do.
It's allowed because there's no law against gifting people money. Everyone that is using a crowdfunding page to support others is expected to thoroughly read the description and then make a responsible decision on whether they want to *give away* money, regardless of whether the project succeeds or not. That includes supporting projects that don't even give you any meaningful reward, for as long as the description informs you of that. There are plenty well meant projects where support without direct reward makes sense, e.g. people renovating publicly accessible buildings to help their immediate community. Kickstarter and similar institutions don't make the decision for you, on whether or not you just want to gift your money.
Let me translate the "codec": This isn't a console, it's a cooperative experience, one player controls another real human being by sending commands through the gamepad into the glasses.
That last one's a doozy, but it does make me wonder how difficult it would be to turn a moving sidewalk into a video game controller... It'd be more of an amusement park attraction than a games console, but it'd be pretty cool if it worked.
You could probably do it by rigging pressure sensors along the walkway so that a computer can monitor where you are relative to the sidewalk, then translate that to a position on a screen.
Ron (MadLittlePixel) is a good dude. Cheers for shouting him out. A scummy eBay seller is now threatening to sue him for exposing the fact he's selling a WATA graded reproduction like it's a real game!
"Interactive video game console for action games" OK so like, it's going to be some kind of exercise machine where your physical movements are translated into button presses? "One player holds a controller and their inputs prompt another player wearing Google Glass to do certain physical movements" ....haah?
I see you were channeling 'Beef' from Phantom of the Paradise at 20:43. 25:49 seems interesting for blind people - as long as the dice can be felt, although I'm already aware of audio games for iOS. Still a game system for the blind could be interesting. But it'd need a ton of UI-think to make it work.
My favorite part is all the bedroom entrepreneurs dreaming they'll be building VR headsets IN ADDITION TO their full consoles, for maybe a couple million dollars all told. As if The Zuck hasn't just blown 10 billion dollars failing at the same objective.
Zuck hasn't failed, he's footing the bill for a future YOU aren't aware is happening all around you. VR/MR is coming and Zuckerberg is the only man pushing it hard and to the forefront, putting his own money into it.
So, the Amico was never on Kickstarter, but I still think it should top the list as they had several rouns of crowd funding. Also, according to the Retro Bro, he talked Tommy out of going on Kickstarter.
Seeing all these failures, it’s hard to remember that Kickstart has standards. Nobody talked Tommy out of going on Kickstarter. He couldn’t have gone on Kickstarter if he wanted to; the Amico didn’t qualify. Which should have been a huge red flag, especially to somebody who calls out scams for a living. But we’ve beaten that horse enough.
Someone just tell these guys who’re kickstarting these badly made consoles to “go home you guys, your drunk”. The only good consoles I can accept are the Turbo Grafx 16 and NeoGeo.
That SuperGFX. The guy is standing in front of a CNC lathe, are we supposed to think that it's some kind of a super computer where he designs that thing?
i think there was potential in the board game touch screen idea, if there had actually been a working prototype and and interest from board game companies/designers.
I'm new here. i found you through your complete history series (Metroid specifically) now i've got a whole backlog of Kickstarter videos to catch up on, these will be fun and, i look forward to seeing more :)
oh god I forgot about the Oton X. The interview the designer did for it was amazing too. He talked about the follow on, that was "already in development" being a floating (yes) sphere that would holographically project games. Not kidding.
I feel like the only thing Hubiz has going for it is that it would probably be the only game console in existence that cannot run DOOM. Not because it's audio-only, but because it simply doesn't exist.
Got my IndieGo with an Odroid inside. Never really got around to fully setting it up. I think most of the folks that finally got it the instructions around the OS and the constant changes BEFORE we even received the devices didn't remotely make it clear how to get everything up and running. Instead I just used mine as an Android box for awhile.
For the console case's video pitch, did anyone else notice that the fan would suddenly go silent whenever the guy spoke? That can only mean four possible things; 1. The fan sound was added in post, but the guy didn't want it to drown out his voice. 2. His voice was added in post, but again, didn't want the fan to drown out his voice. 3. He kept turning off the fan whenever he spoke. 4. The fan was a shoddy piece of junk that was on it's last legs. Of course if it was options 1 or 2, it means he has no idea what audio balancing is.
The fact anyone fell for #16 boggles my brain. They couldn't even use a halfway decent mic and the UI screams fake or at least completely awful and came from someone who hasn't had even one design class.
Also, Wazo (#20) was kind of a good idea... not as a console, but as an app running as a hub device. Asynchronous multi-player games (Think Mario Party for the Wii U) would be it's bread and butter.
I do think $200 is a bit steep, but i can think of several situations where a simple, completely airtight watch would be useful. Hate the orange sticker tho
It was on a different crowdfunding site, and would probably take a full length video on its own, but the "Intellivision" Amico could easily be the king of crowdfunding console failures.
There are two of these that would have really appealed to me if they had actually been real: The OmegaOne: I love the idea of a really large interactive touchscreen board game. Even better, it could play multiple different board games. It really sucks that this one was fake. The EmoSpark: As somebody who struggles with emotional challenges such as depression and anxiety, a device which interacts with me in this way would be a godsend. I’m heartbroken to hear that this campaign ended in disaster. In the end, I’m glad I didn’t hear about either of these, as I probably would have backed them. Wonderful video, DJ Slope. Thanks, as always, for your wonderful content.
21:50 The company Origin PC built such a machine a few years ago. It's called the Big O and it's a super expensive machine including a top of the line PC, a PS4 and and Xbox One. I think they iteratwd on this machine later on too.
Yeah it was $2500 with the power of a PS4 pro for the console side and a 3090 for the graphics card. I would rather a $2000 PC and a PS5 and get a better version of both. And the thing is so big it’s really just a PS4 attached to a PC so it’s not even saving space
Do you ever think about how Gamer Archive was basically made obsolete by Retroarch- which basically just packages a bunch of emulators together and lets you play any of the classic games in your library on one "console", is controller-agnostic, and was released for *free*?
what baffles me the most is, that none of these companies who wants to make multi plattform consoles had any royalties to any of the games they advertise in their campaigns. Do they really think they could make a Nintendo Switch, Xbox or Playstation without beeing sued to death afterwards?
Some are obvious scams, to make a quick buck, but others feel like the author was commited by some sort of mania after daydreaming and decided to go on, without realizing all the work it'd be necessary to make the console work
16:09 Lol WUT? Steam Machines have the Steam Proton compatibility layer (which was actually Gabe's first failed attempt to push Linux gaming, _not_ Steam Machine) to run Windows games, just like Steam Deck. The problem with Steam Machine is that it's unnecessary. The Steam Deck succeeded where it failed because it's portable.
Yea totally legit, 35.000 and then hes using a body thermometer to check temperature... Thank god that guy doesn't own a restaurant, everyone would leave with food poisoning.
You know, from Goodwill I have to think that a lot of these consoles are donated by people that didn’t know what they were worth, didn’t know to (or how to) wipe their profiles off, or didn’t know to trade them in for new stuff. I bet a lot of them came from people that died.
Personally I don't think the "Gamer Archive" was a scam. It was just poorly thought out; a paper napkin idea that skipped the fleshing out phase by someone that had no clue what they were doing.
the "gamer archive" reminds me of my """"invention"""" which would of been a tv with all the game consoles shoved into it. Including a dvd player! Yes, it was stupid.
I actually really like the idea of a consel that looks like a stack of books its not a bad idea design eise and something i can see myself throw a couple of hours infront of a 3d printer making if i had any talent
I wonder how many of these were intentional scams and how many were just people that legitimately had an idea and wanted to put it into production, but were just completely in over their heads.

"The Gamer Archive will include every game... as long as the license allows it."
So the Gamer Archive will have nothing on it.
maybe the dice system could be used for things like chose your own adventure or dnd style games
That one had potential for sure. It was leagues ahead of the others but it really needed a screen of its own or to link to your tv.
The music for the Navatio sounds like an alternate version of the classic Halloween theme.
It is.
WOW. Most of these failed consoles are little more than retro emulation systems shoved in a fancy looking case. Nothing more than a cheap used computer can do.
I never understood why and how flexible funding is allowed to even be a thing if you don’t get the money you need you shouldn’t get anything.
The Wazo is literally just Jackbox if it was a game system instead of a collection of game anthologies
I love the Gamer Archive Keeper Card with its wordart created label!
@@abderianagelast7868 Could also use a series of motion sensors to gauge position.
I'll be the first to agree that Cookie guy's idea is half baked, crumby even, but that's no call the bite his head off.
Ron (MadLittlePixel) is a good dude. Cheers for shouting him out. A scummy eBay seller is now threatening to sue him for exposing the fact he's selling a WATA graded reproduction like it's a real game!
Anything that has to do with WATA games...WATA dumpster fire!
43:13 that little nod he did as if he was proud of his little ending took me out 😭💀
That last one is literally just Simon Says.
0:47 Hey buddy, I think you forgot the Intellivision Amico. It turned one guy's brain to Swiss cheese.
Slope is basically my comfort food content. Basically moms meatloaf only more edible.
"Interactive video game console for action games"
OK so like, it's going to be some kind of exercise machine where your physical movements are translated into button presses?
"One player holds a controller and their inputs prompt another player wearing Google Glass to do certain physical movements"
....haah?
I see you were channeling 'Beef' from Phantom of the Paradise at 20:43. 25:49 seems interesting for blind people - as long as the dice can be felt, although I'm already aware of audio games for iOS. Still a game system for the blind could be interesting. But it'd need a ton of UI-think to make it work.
Who's going to tell him John Hancock isn't immortal, and in fact died in 1793?
They did do crowdfunding for it this year but it failed terribly.
Why I still grab the waist of my pants and do a little James Brown shuffle whenever I hear that theme music, I do not know.
That SuperGFX. The guy is standing in front of a CNC lathe, are we supposed to think that it's some kind of a super computer where he designs that thing?
He was at work, as a janitor, stood next to the coolest thing he had access to
Nice, a full hour of DJ slopes talking about kickscammers. Cant get any better than this. 🍺
17:29 these people have never seen a TV or a streaming stick/box before
i think there was potential in the board game touch screen idea, if there had actually been a working prototype and and interest from board game companies/designers.
I feel like Black Mirror did an episode on the VR Interactive Machine for Action Games...it went down a different path.
Glad I'm not the only one who was thinking about Black Mirror
Faceparty? I’m getting some major 2004-5 vibes now!
The one thing every console on this list has in common is that they're all still better than the Amico.
Dude is already living in 3022 in his head.
The stop drop & retro video on OTON X is legendary
7:36 Well actually...
It can!
Someone made a homebrew version you can download for free and play on any soft/hard modded PS2...
Proof that the kickstarter console was even more pathetic.
Thanks Slopes, rebinging your videos, helping me to get through the big C one nineteen
Hope you feel better soon dude
get home from work and find a 1 hour kickscammer waiting for me, gonna be a good afternoon
I feel like the only thing Hubiz has going for it is that it would probably be the only game console in existence that cannot run DOOM. Not because it's audio-only, but because it simply doesn't exist.
5:27 Him introducing himself as a fucking cookie kills me every time. 😂
For the console case's video pitch, did anyone else notice that the fan would suddenly go silent whenever the guy spoke? That can only mean four possible things;
Guess you didn't see his 4 hour video on it?
@@TokuWaffle I have since, and it's definitely the king of crowdfunding console failures.
Lesson of the day: always have a third eye to these things, no matter if they look cool or not
There are two of these that would have really appealed to me if they had actually been real:
The OmegaOne: I love the idea of a really large interactive touchscreen board game.
Ironically, Arcade1UP would end up basically making the OmegaOne real when they released the Infinity Game Table...
You managed to get quite a few chuckles out of me on a bad day. Thanks 😄
More than welcome, hope u r ok
The dice thing actually seemed like a cool idea. It should have had a screen though.
what baffles me the most is, that none of these companies who wants to make multi plattform consoles had any royalties to any of the games they advertise in their campaigns. Do they really think they could make a Nintendo Switch, Xbox or Playstation without beeing sued to death afterwards?
I'd have been more impressed if thar Amiga actually did look like a flat 2d image. That would've been truly surreal
I just found out your channel by chance, i am totally entertained and glad. Good work me lad!
I like that the gamer archive was to launch with an expansion. It was on disk dlc for hardware.
The theme to the Hydra trailer sounds like something out of Halloween.
15:37 when the music for your console is the Unsolved Mysteries theme you just know this is going to disappear without a trace.
I’ve been binging your kick scammers videos and now a new one nice !
He didn’t use a biscuit that was him he’s a Garibaldi
That PSG guy looks like a normal, trustworthy Earth human. Just like me.
Proton was released on 2018 just fyi. Wine is older though.
@@timbo303official9 That has absolutely nothing to do with my point thanks for the useless info dump.
I wanna hear more about those horrible looking backpacks!😅
Yea totally legit, 35.000 and then hes using a body thermometer to check temperature...
Thank god that guy doesn't own a restaurant, everyone would leave with food poisoning.
You know, from Goodwill I have to think that a lot of these consoles are donated by people that didn’t know what they were worth, didn’t know to (or how to) wipe their profiles off, or didn’t know to trade them in for new stuff. I bet a lot of them came from people that died.
The guys name was Richard Seaman? The whole thing had to be a joke given the nickname for Richard
I know, right? Dick seaman.
Personally I don't think the "Gamer Archive" was a scam. It was just poorly thought out; a paper napkin idea that skipped the fleshing out phase by someone that had no clue what they were doing.
it's great in isolation but impractical in application
gamer archive looks like books because WinRAR is a great archiver in its RAR format and its logo is books
I like that it looks like books. Yes it's impractical but it's a cool idea anyway.
Asterix was a pun based on the character's size...
It SOUNDS a bit like Asterisk, which is the symbol.
the "gamer archive" reminds me of my """"invention"""" which would of been a tv with all the game consoles shoved into it. Including a dvd player!
Yes, it was stupid.
I mean, I'm all for saving shelf space and electricity but that's not likely to happen
You could add Makuake (JP) and Zeczec (Taiwan) to the list of places to look for scams. Tho the source material will be not in English.
