Well it isn't exactly a realistic gundam game, its more to cater to like the fun aspect about it, if you want a somewhat realistic gundam game with accurate scaling then try battle operations, the only realistic part about this gundam game is that its first person, its almost like your playing in the pilots perspective rather than watch your gundam in third person

I would imagine that they ran into a problem where it's hard to incorporate a proper melee system when ranged is the focus. For example, you whip out your sword to fight someone else, and some other guy comes in and shoots you, or the guy that you were fighting switches weapons and shoots you.
You can tell on stream what games Charlie has the most fun with, and this being a play test, I was surprised how much he enjoyed this one. Game shows real promise.
This game definitely isn't the "definitive mobile suit experience", but it *is* a massive fucking improvement to the hero shooter formula No classes or role locks, universal movement options, universal revives, far less focus on ults, and some actual meaningful variety to MS picks, makes this game a genuine blast to play Also DOM is an absolute chad, true carry machine through and through
And the fact that each Suit in the game (so far) is someone's favorite actually sounds good. There are people who even use Methuss, Marasai & GM as their mains.
I think the biggest flaw is the lack of sense of scale. Other than a little bit of scaffolding, it doesn't really look like you're in 50 foot tall mechs.
Eh, I don't like things going mainstream (in my opinion). It always leads to too many garbage people ruining things for long time fans. (I say this as someone who isn't a fan of Gundam, though)

Even if it happens, don't expect better funding for the devs, everything gundam is under bandai and those are cheap fucks regarding anything that isn't their biggest cash cows like the souls series, I mean gundam is a cash cow for them, but it's mostly on the toy side with gunpla and all of that. Hell, getting on the fromsoftware and mecha subject, we haven't had any armored core because bandai and other publishers not wanting to fund something they see as a waste.
Wing, old dated animation original Gundam, 08thMS Team, and G Gundam were the only ones heavily shown and marketed in the west for kids during Toonami. 00, Seed, Stardust Memory all only played once a week with very little advertisement. I remember Seed got pushed to a 2am slot before it even finished airing.
Viewership for mecha pretty much falls short anywhere outside japan. Hell, where I live the franchise is pretty much destined to be pigeonholed for "childish" people because rObOts.

The fights with the Char clone, and 1 fight between 3 of the protagonist are the only things I really remember. Most of the characters are pretty boring compared to other series.
As a Gundam Fan, I'm actually surprised that this game got quite the attention. Because when this game was revealed, it was seem quite negatively by the Gundam Fanbase. Because it didn't feature some things that you would expect from piloting a 18 meter tall giant robot. Such as the cockpit view, weight and...well aiming system (Because in the actual Gundam Series, Pilots aimed using some sort of camera that was linked with the Guns Scope and the Computer.) However, it should recognized that this game was made to appeal to people who aren't familiar with Gundam, not the Gundam Fanbase. Which is why the selection of Mobile Suits..is a bit all over the place. Gundam Barbatos was definitely added because he appealed to the Western Demographics. But other Mobile Suits such as the GM Sniper II, Pale Rider, Methuss and Sazabi were added because they were pretty random selections (And the fact that you can't add the Sazabi, without adding the Nu Gundam), and in more of a way to bascially say "So, which of these Mobile Suits would the Western Demographic like the most?" All in all, I'm planning to play this game, even with GBO2 having a PC Release, I'll try this game out and see if I like it.
Yes and no. I think this game was kinda thrown together after seeing how well Build Divers as a premise sells so well. It sells itself more to those that are in the “I don’t know anything about Gundam, but they look cool as heck” crowd. Make a easy pick up and play adrenaline class based shooter to capitalize on it. This idea is kinda reinforced because GBO2 is coming out at the same time to sell to those who are super fans of the series. Truly two sides of the same coin and it’s super smart for Bandai to give both options. Most of my friends liked GE, but I only know two that would be willing to play GBO2. At the end of the day, it’s all propaganda to sell more model kits so maybe we both are thinking too much into it haha.
I actually like their choice of grunts & more obscure mechs. It's amusing to think that, after this Beta test, non-Gundam-fan gamers will know more about *Methuss* & *Asshimar* than Nu Gundam, Strike Gundam, Freedom Gundam or God Gundam 😅
I appreciate that a mobile suit like Sazabi has its beam tomahawk but it can be used for more than just that. I feel like the melee aspect is a bit underwhelming/non existent outside of a suit that specializes in it.
Hoping they add a payload escort mode where you have an actual army you have to clear a path for or something. Also just more maps to remind you that you are in fact a massive fucking behemoth like a city with skyscrapers or some rural areas

it'd be cool that if you hit the ms in the area where the cockpit is usually located, it would register as an instant kill or headshot. All characters have their cockpit in the torso, with the exception of Sazabi and Turn A. Sazabi has its cockpit located in the head, and Turn A has a... well... COCKpit. It'll force players to focus on protecting their chest instead of their head. also I think it's incredible that a well known streamer like penguinz0 is doing some gundam content. I strongly believe that this will introduce a whole lot of people to the gundam franchise. Which is awesome, we need more people in our community!
The game emphasizes that your suit is disabled, NOT that you died. So in that regard, using the head unit which is typically where all the sensors, cameras, and important electronics are located, makes a lot of sense.
I did play the playtest, my one single gripe with it is that every class/gundam should at least have some sort of melee. I wouldn’t care if its on like a 5 second cool down just something for the suits to defend themselves against the melee attackers.
i dont mind a few beam saber battles in the mix, but if we are going with that barbatos should atleast have some type of range attack too no? not like exia but like throwing his huge as mace or something.

headshots shouldn't even make sense when fighting mobile suits, the pilot(the literal brain of the robot) is in the abdomen of the mecha, aside from a select few MS in the franchise whos cockpits are in the head.
@@kelnhide they developed the game with head shot mechanics and not lore accurate cockpit zones in order to allow anyone to play the game competitively regardless of Gundam knowledge. They had an interview/dev blog about it.
Everyone enjoys any games at start while everyone is just a casual, until it becomes competitive and the casuals get constantly dunked on by an experienced, and coordinated team. Add to that the future map, character, skill glitches that will be discovered and abused. This will then dictate the meta of the game til it gets patched and the cycle continues... Just like the way OW has descended on to the game it is now. Competitive games will always be hated by casuals.

If they add more 00 suits, they need to add the Throne Drei. Perfect support suit since it jams communications though it's poorly armed. Reborns would be awesome too. Gundam mode to Cannon mode.
I love this game. You need an iq at least in the Jimmy Neutron tier, better reflexes than Diddy Kong and a clear grasp on the movement mechanics to play well.

I think it's a lot of fun, but like some people said, there needs to be a dedicated melee button instead of having some of it tied to an ultimate. That and my poor boi Zaku needs a faster reload or something, the amount of times he's chewed through his magazine and that long reload time ended up killing me is damn near countless.
It´s good game design imo, the zaku has a lot of tools to enter and safely exit out of engagements. The need to rescource manage your mags balances it out and makes it more interesting.
Zaku needs like 5-10 more bullets and he will feel spicy. I was really starting to enjoy Zaku at the end of the play test, other than Barb and exia he is the only one with 3 dashes so you can still dance around people while reloading at least
Oh shit I didn't know you played the playtest too! I'm really happy, this'll not only give it traction but hopefully get more people into the series as a whole. I had a lot more fun with this playtest than I thought I would at that, coming from a diehard gundam game fan who likes very grounded entries.
I think the interface could be better, it just doesn't feel like true Gundam when you have a clear screen and such. The effects and content are great though
@@TerryVideoZone what I meant was with screen affects and cockpit controls. Tint the screen a little bit, make it feel like you are in the cockpit not in the eyes like the zeong
Considering that most of the mobile suits are pre-linear cockpits the fact that you are looking through a screen in real life fills that role. But yeah for ms like the sazabi it's a bit odd.
The beta was great. The Dom Trooper and Zaku II were my favourite to play, although Turn A looked awesome too because you could grapple into a guaranteed kill against the squishier units like barbatos and exia.
I loved Sazabi so much, easy tank that can keep your team alive. I liked GM and Exia as well but I found it hard to aim the GM Sniper but I saw multiple people easily taking out thruster boosting targets
I'm a sucker for Melee units like Barbatos and Exia and having them both here pumps me up! It looks fun as heck too. I hope they adds Unicorn and Destiny in the future and yeah i agree to some people who said most of the MS should've given some kind of melee option because beam sabers fights are the pinnacle of gundam fights and the melee one already exists didn't use those beam sabers
*Overwatch to me is like one of those flashy japanese tv shows with two hundred random "omg!" and "wow!" banged on the screen.* And I played Destiny 1 and 2 all the time

You know, some multiplayer wide scale PVE missions would be a great addition for the game. Imagine it being something like Left4Dead, going through multiple locations and fighting against just swarms of Mobile Suits. Have a limited flight option for all the Mobile Suits and and just go ham.

Tho I myself got used to calling the OG Gundam as the "RX-78" or in some cases, G1 (1st Gen or Generation 1) and calling the Nu Gundam as the "RX-93".

Hell, getting on the fromsoftware and mecha subject, we haven't had any armored core because bandai and other publishers not wanting to fund something they see as a waste.

I don't understand how a franchise like this has failed so hard in the West. Its serious tones are phenomenal and its stories are well told.
Wing, old dated animation original Gundam, 08thMS Team, and G Gundam were the only ones heavily shown and marketed in the west for kids during Toonami. 00, Seed, Stardust Memory all only played once a week with very little advertisement. I remember Seed got pushed to a 2am slot before it even finished airing.
Viewership for mecha pretty much falls short anywhere outside japan. Hell, where I live the franchise is pretty much destined to be pigeonholed for "childish" people because rObOts.

The fights with the Char clone, and 1 fight between 3 of the protagonist are the only things I really remember. Most of the characters are pretty boring compared to other series.

As a Gundam Fan, I'm actually surprised that this game got quite the attention.
Because when this game was revealed, it was seem quite negatively by the Gundam Fanbase. Because it didn't feature some things that you would expect from piloting a 18 meter tall giant robot. Such as the cockpit view, weight and...well aiming system (Because in the actual Gundam Series, Pilots aimed using some sort of camera that was linked with the Guns Scope and the Computer.)
However, it should recognized that this game was made to appeal to people who aren't familiar with Gundam, not the Gundam Fanbase. Which is why the selection of Mobile Suits..is a bit all over the place. Gundam Barbatos was definitely added because he appealed to the Western Demographics. But other Mobile Suits such as the GM Sniper II, Pale Rider, Methuss and Sazabi were added because they were pretty random selections (And the fact that you can't add the Sazabi, without adding the Nu Gundam), and in more of a way to bascially say "So, which of these Mobile Suits would the Western Demographic like the most?"
All in all, I'm planning to play this game, even with GBO2 having a PC Release, I'll try this game out and see if I like it.

Yes and no. I think this game was kinda thrown together after seeing how well Build Divers as a premise sells so well. It sells itself more to those that are in the “I don’t know anything about Gundam, but they look cool as heck” crowd. Make a easy pick up and play adrenaline class based shooter to capitalize on it.
This idea is kinda reinforced because GBO2 is coming out at the same time to sell to those who are super fans of the series. Truly two sides of the same coin and it’s super smart for Bandai to give both options. Most of my friends liked GE, but I only know two that would be willing to play GBO2.
At the end of the day, it’s all propaganda to sell more model kits so maybe we both are thinking too much into it haha.

I actually like their choice of grunts & more obscure mechs. It's amusing to think that, after this Beta test, non-Gundam-fan gamers will know more about *Methuss* & *Asshimar* than Nu Gundam, Strike Gundam, Freedom Gundam or God Gundam 😅

it'd be cool that if you hit the ms in the area where the cockpit is usually located, it would register as an instant kill or headshot. All characters have their cockpit in the torso, with the exception of Sazabi and Turn A. Sazabi has its cockpit located in the head, and Turn A has a... well... COCKpit. It'll force players to focus on protecting their chest instead of their head.
also I think it's incredible that a well known streamer like penguinz0 is doing some gundam content. I strongly believe that this will introduce a whole lot of people to the gundam franchise. Which is awesome, we need more people in our community!

The game emphasizes that your suit is disabled, NOT that you died. So in that regard, using the head unit which is typically where all the sensors, cameras, and important electronics are located, makes a lot of sense.

I did play the playtest, my one single gripe with it is that every class/gundam should at least have some sort of melee. I wouldn’t care if its on like a 5 second cool down just something for the suits to defend themselves against the melee attackers.
i dont mind a few beam saber battles in the mix, but if we are going with that barbatos should atleast have some type of range attack too no? not like exia but like throwing his huge as mace or something.

You already have a defense against melee attackers, it's called "boost backwards and shoot"

headshots shouldn't even make sense when fighting mobile suits, the pilot(the literal brain of the robot) is in the abdomen of the mecha, aside from a select few MS in the franchise whos cockpits are in the head.

The game is an absolute baller. My friends who cannot stand Overwatch ended up enjoying the hell out of this. Can't wait for the full release!
Everyone enjoys any games at start while everyone is just a casual, until it becomes competitive and the casuals get constantly dunked on by an experienced, and coordinated team. Add to that the future map, character, skill glitches that will be discovered and abused. This will then dictate the meta of the game til it gets patched and the cycle continues... Just like the way OW has descended on to the game it is now. Competitive games will always be hated by casuals.

I think it's a lot of fun, but like some people said, there needs to be a dedicated melee button instead of having some of it tied to an ultimate.
That and my poor boi Zaku needs a faster reload or something, the amount of times he's chewed through his magazine and that long reload time ended up killing me is damn near countless.
It´s good game design imo, the zaku has a lot of tools to enter and safely exit out of engagements. The need to rescource manage your mags balances it out and makes it more interesting.
Zaku needs like 5-10 more bullets and he will feel spicy. I was really starting to enjoy Zaku at the end of the play test, other than Barb and exia he is the only one with 3 dashes so you can still dance around people while reloading at least

I played Dynasty Warriors: Gundam on Xbox 360 when I was like 5. Glad to see it's still relevant in some capacity.
Oh shit I didn't know you played the playtest too! I'm really happy, this'll not only give it traction but hopefully get more people into the series as a whole. I had a lot more fun with this playtest than I thought I would at that, coming from a diehard gundam game fan who likes very grounded entries.
I think the interface could be better, it just doesn't feel like true Gundam when you have a clear screen and such. The effects and content are great though
with UC gundam at least, 360 degree monitors are pretty much standard from zeta onwards so I don't think it's too far of a stretch

The beta was great. The Dom Trooper and Zaku II were my favourite to play, although Turn A looked awesome too because you could grapple into a guaranteed kill against the squishier units like barbatos and exia.
I don't know anything about this game, but I'm getting more Halo vibes from this.
I loved playing as the cannon fodder bots- the Zaku and GM especially. Marasai if I couldn't get either of those.
I loved Sazabi so much, easy tank that can keep your team alive. I liked GM and Exia as well but I found it hard to aim the GM Sniper but I saw multiple people easily taking out thruster boosting targets
I'm a sucker for Melee units like Barbatos and Exia and having them both here pumps me up! It looks fun as heck too. I hope they adds Unicorn and Destiny in the future and yeah i agree to some people who said most of the MS should've given some kind of melee option because beam sabers fights are the pinnacle of gundam fights and the melee one already exists didn't use those beam sabers
I love the flying and all the different things the mechs can do. I'll def be playing this.

You know, some multiplayer wide scale PVE missions would be a great addition for the game. Imagine it being something like Left4Dead, going through multiple locations and fighting against just swarms of Mobile Suits. Have a limited flight option for all the Mobile Suits and and just go ham.
