I was one of the drivers on the 2nd Spoon Car entry (93)... Despite having some mechanical issues, the Spoon Team car also finished the race... My first time wheeling the car was friday night, during qualifying, where I qualified it ahead of the faster Civic Type R. Had we not had the mechanical issues, the car would have been a formidable force out there. Spoon cars are prep'd phenominally.. I drove exclusively at night for the team.
Thanks for the video! Really enjoyed it. I'm actually quite surprised they finished 7th considering only Hattori is/was a GT racer and the other drivers were presidents of other companies and an editor. Very nice racing. 8) Looking forward to more videos like this.
wow im glad i found this. i have always been very interested in ichishima-san and his endeavors - specifically building endurance cars to test his products. so this was a very cool find. also 2 of my favourite spoon cars cl7 & fd2! awesome, simply awesome...and ichi being a driver and taking night stints...good shit..than man is my hero.
@Liist It's a 25-hour race. So, if there is a residential area near Thunderhill, chances are at least one person will be trying to sleep when the race is on.
@astorbergonzoni I grew up in Willows, California, where the track is located, you can hear the cars at night echoing down from the hills, it wasn't a problem for me at all since I enjoyed it, but I guess its possible some people might not have held that same enthusiasm.
I was wondering the use of a rear spoiler on a fwd vehicle? usually ricers only do that but i'm sure Spoon put it there for a reason, how does it help the handling characteristics? wouldn't it make it understeer more?
They left out the part where after the race, they drove the car to 7-11. They put gas in it, and bought a taquito and a peach slurpy, then drove home. The car can still be seen to this day, driving its owner and two children around Alameda, and sometimes Emeryville to the Ikea. It might go to the oldest daughter, as she is starting college at Berkeley next fall... But as much as he loves her and doesn't want her taking public transport- He would miss the car greatly. Because even as a full bore Spoon built racecar, a Civic is still a Civic- and like the loyal sheep dog, it does what it is asked without complaint.

Noise level? That's what I like to call "fucking bullshit."
many race tracks around the country do, especially when they have to obey the local noise ordnance, yes its bullshit but its nothing new
who the fk cares about noise level when it comes to racing
exactly nascar gets too be all loud and shit. and they don't get disqualified
almost desqualified for noise problems?? wtf its a race since when thats matters?
