- This time on Distant Shores we take delivery of our new Enksail Orion 49 aluminum sailboat and set sail for new adventures! We take delivery of Distant Shores IV at the Dutch town of Makkum where the boat was built, then head out through the sea-lock into the Wadden Sea and cross the North Sea to the UK, heading to the Solent on England's south coast.
It is nice to see Distant Shores IV has begun its adventures. We as a yard found it an honor to build this yacht for you and look back on a very pleasant cooperation. Our crew have experienced you as lovely warm persons and enjoyed building this yacht for you. We wish you and your guests many wonderful sea mile. Thank you very much for this collaboration! To quote Paul in his best Dutch: "It was gezellig, tot ziens!!"
It was very kind of you to share with us all the steps you took to create a sailboat of this quality and beauty.
I watched videos of the build of this yacht with eager anticipation but never once thought I would see the final product in person, which I did some months ago. The engineering and quality which has been bestowed on this yacht is fantastic and such a huge credit to Gebroeders van Enkhuizen. Thank you for making it possible to see and enjoy the build of this beautiful crafted yacht - baie mooi and lekker.
Likewise! It was a great pleasure to work with you and everyone on the team at Gebroeders van Enkhuizen Boatbuilders / Enksail Yachts! You have built us a beautiful boat with great care and attention to detail. She is a joy to sail and we are looking forward to many happy adventures aboard our new Enksail Orion 49 aluminum sailboat.
this company would deservedly be very proud of the workmanship and success that they produce
Excellent craftsmanship. Thanks for sharing your fine work.
Congratulations! I hope you will enjoy all new adventures! May the journeys be just as beautiful and thank you for building your ship in the Netherlands. 🥂
Congratulations , it’s your ship now.!
Going true a Dutch lock you do not need any bow truster. As mentioned use a stern line or spring line.
Getting the point bit of the boat away from the lock wal is easy with a spring line.
A bit of reverse if needed and voila off you go.
Nice vlog , perfect pictures. Love to see more .. 😊
I remember so clearly waiting for each new episode on the Travel Channel long ago and I would watch re-runs of every episode till a new one came out. Your travels were part of the reason why I wanted to see the world under sail as well. She is a beautiful vessel and I hope you have many great, safe and trouble-free sea miles. It is some time since you left the Netherlands and Sheryl's birthday, so belated happy birthday.
This is great feedback. Thank you so much! We are so glad that you have enjoyed following our TV shows and videos for so long. More to come!
Great respect. You built the boat of your dreams and the dreams of thousands of sailors. The budget is also important but the most important is the smile on your faces. You did it! Feet of water under the keel on the seas and oceans! 💪👍 Frankfurt am Main greets Las Palmas 😉
Belated happy birthday, Cheryl! Paul`s smirks speak volumes as to the experience you had in the lock.
Congratulations to you both, and to Enksail… Distant shore IV looks to be a beautiful, seaworthy vessel… 👌🏻
As an Architect, I really enjoyed watching the build. As a Sailor, I’m looking forward to your new adventures. Hoping you get to the Pacific Northwest someday. Congratulations on your wonderful new boat.
I'm not a sailor but love watching sailing videos. But as an architect, I too loved watching the build. 😊
First to Sheryl...: What a Happy Timely Birthday...! Fantastic... And, you Paul I'm very impressed with this must be the best vessel designed and built by you two GOAT...! Notwithstanding I'm hoping you guys do some sailing and taking notes and records on your Hybrid system... I'm very interested in how your elecric motor-sailing comes along especially if you're getting some regen... Excellent all 'round and Fair Winds...
Wonderful.... The boat shows very, very well. You have developed quite the perfect boat. Interior wood is lovely. Congratulations....
Have watched for many years....
Maybe the nicest mono I've ever seen. A great first sail in very busy waters, what a baptism. Cheers
5:34 can't blame you for taking a few seconds to linger on that lovely wooden boat! Great filming and great to see you both finally on your way with the new ship!
So nice to see your push off to new adventure around the world.
It's great to be back under sail once again! Thanks, John.
Really nice to see you sailing again. Cant wait to see the boat walktrough and hear all the technical stuff from Paul
Yes we are planning to film a detailed walkthrough of the boat now that we have done some sailing with her.
Congratulations OG! Your sailboat is just AMAZING. Just like the 2 of you. I'm really looking forward to a new season on your new boat. Thank you for all the great videos over the years. I've learned much from your videos. One day, I look forward to meeting you guys! Thank you
A very nice episode! I was hoping that it would be a bit longer but that's okay. I may have mentioned this before but I am half Dutch. I don't know how many people know this but the yacht, or originally the jaght, was created in the Netherlands/Holland. Interestingly, my 20 foot sailboat, a Paceship P2-20 was built in December of 1972 in Nova Scotia, Canada (and you guys are from Canada) Nova Scotia means New Scotland and according to my DNA results I am 12% Scottish - and my name is Scott! LOL And to top all of that I had my last sail of the year just this last Monday, November 18th. : - D I have never sailed so late in the year but it was close to 60 degrees F and the wind was very nice. I got up to 5.7 Kts and got just under 2 hours out on Keuka Lake here in south central New York State. Now I have to throw a tarp over my boat - which I can easily store in my driveway - to get it ready for winter. After all that I can't wait for your next episode. : - )
yup been in that lock in a 72 ft sail training ketch and its nuts Fair wind guys congratulations on the new boat
Beautiful day for sailing on your birthday as you celebrate 35 years on the sea with your new boat Distant Shores IV.
Congratulations and Happy Birthday. Thanks for sharing.
What a beautiful start to your next adventures. Glorious weather and Distant Shores IV is stunning.
Congratulations on taking delivery of your beautiful new yacht! We remember you from the early days when we were both making DVD's about sailing. This was before youtube had started and we were using actual movie cameras. 😂 We were in New Zealand filming our "Reach for the Sea" series on our Annapolis 44, Mai Tai. Great to see you are still on the water.
CONGRATULATIONS. What a milestone! What a journey it has been from design to build to handover. Thanks for all the videos. Looking forward to the next chapter of sailing. The boat is gorgeous btw.

Hi guys, I’ve been watching another TH-camr building a aluminium Catamaran call Dallas 2.0 here in Australia on the Gold Coast or we like to say GC anyway keep up the good work enjoy
So nice to see you out on the water. Happy birthday. Did you say 35 years?
I must have turned left in my sailing career. I look at RAN sailing and wonder how they do it.
I sit with my six grand kids describing sailing heroism while they try to watch SpongeBob or some other five o’clock TV. Seventy years coming up, river Rhône to Medi next year.
Happy Birthday Sheryl!
Awesome video you two. You've come a long way since Two-Step
Yes it has been quite an evolution over the years. 😊⛵
@DistantShoresTV you guys inspired us from watching you on Wealth TV....we always looked forward to watching every episode. When you came to youtube, it was even better because we can watch anytime we want. My favorites are when you were in the Erie Canal and the Bahamas on the Southerly 42, but we look forward to seeing this beauty in action too.
Wonderful
This is going to be great channel content.
I laughed...Paul, "That was nuts"
Lovely boat. I’ve been following you guys since the travel channel. Love the aluminum boat. How would you keep the unpainted hull looking that good without getting the chalky look?
Awesome!!
Awesome boat love it, are you wintering in UK or sailing in 2025 to the Mediterranean ? I will be heading down to the Mediterranean in our Bavaria first week of June 2025
We missed you for a lot of weeks, and wondered, what happened! So was the first rip to the UK just a see trial? Good to have you back! Im just a bit jealous
, would have wanted a bout just the same spec, and still want. Lucky joyful sailing for you!!
So, so happy for you guys that you are finally back on the water in DS IV! We know you will have some amazing adventures. Are you coming down to the Med at all? Would love to catch up, it’s been 4 years 😮 since the Bahamas!
Congratulations- very happy for you! Quick question- you seemed to have loved your Ultra anchor so I wonder why you switched to the Vulcan? Did any issues arise with the Ultra? Have you used the Vulcan enough yet to compare it to the Ultra? Thanks!
Great to see you on the water. Where will you go this year or the next?
Have you plans to go to Canada, or like us you find the price tag for doing so a bit steep?
congrats
On the waves again....
Wonderful video! Looking forward to watching your upcoming sailing adventures. Just out of curiosity, what brand are those lapel mics? I'm always searching for good audio, and those sound very good.
Bonne fête
❤❤❤ Canada❤❤❤
You have thrusters on a tiny 49 ft vessel with your experience?????
What marina will you be staying at over the winter?
do you polish the hull or do you just leave it natural to age
So is it England or is it the UK.?
Paul what is the brand of your sunglasses?
I watch your videos tooo😂😂🥳🥳🍾🥂👌🏽👊🏽👍🫶🏽🫶🏽
Don’t try this at home kids. 😎
I thought the whole point of sailing around the world is not to be at home... ;-)
@ it goes back to the early years when a little kid said that to Paul and Paul says it sometimes now.
