      No Toyota let's another car companies do the testing while their vehicles run on 3 decades old technology. For God's sake they still using drums... That's great if you want your car to run.... If you want any kind of innovation be prepared to spend some time at dealership. My 32 year old 300 sdl got more technology than any new Toyota vehicle short of entertainment system.

    • @NukePooch1
      @NukePooch1 4 ปีที่แล้ว +38

      @guy proulx He's alluding to the idea that all other companies put new technology in their cars, and later on, when it becomes reliable, then Toyota uses it. Basically, letting all the other manufacturers beta test the new gimmicks.

    • @NukePooch1
      @NukePooch1 4 ปีที่แล้ว +14

      @guy proulx You're separating technology from the question of durability..can't be done. Durability of a modern car is directly related to the technology of the parts, materials, and systems used to build it. The most durable, reliable vehicles are generally the ones with older proven technology. Toyota isn't leading the pack on anything cutting-edge...but they are generally known for producing the most durable and reliable vehicles out there. It's a good thing! Let the other manufacturers work the bugs out of the newest stuff...

    You can't simulate 10 years worth in 4 to 6 weeks months as materials break in 10 years differently, oil, seals, rubber, plastics decay... Cannot be replicated....so soon, it will still be new in 6 months but still good to know they do that.

    Cool video, even if I'm more than a year late!
    I found the headlight tunnel interesting. Ever since I had a first gen Chrysler 200, I marveled at how excellent the lighting was despite being two single HIR bulbs in bifunction projectors. I regularly drive cars with HIDs and even LEDs, quad-beam setups etc, and the old HIR bulbs on the 200 are, remarkably, right up there in performance. While technically not as bright as HID/LED, the effective distance of illumination is very impressive, and the beam pattern perfectly shaped--all the lumens go exactly where they're most useful. The low-beams were seemingly purposely kept somewhat dim with more output allocated for the brights so your eyes aren't adjusting to a bright foreground (think of trying to look at the moon with a 60w lightbulb a foot in front of your face). Their use of that tunnel definitely pays off.. Very smart! The glare notch was new to me.. I always just assumed it was an optical effect or a tiny imperfection in the lens geometry. As usual, there's more that goes into design and engineering than most people would think. Fascinating facility!
    3:40 reminds me of Johnny Five for some reason lol.

We have owned every major off road worthy Toyota model.. I need a change!.. I definitely want to try a Wrangler, and seeing this made me respect the brand more.. Great video, Tommy!.. Jeep should be paying you lol

    • @josephsamsor1698
      @josephsamsor1698 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Lunamaria the old ones definitely did but don’t expect that out of the new ones. If it’s a vehicle you don’t plan on putting a ton of miles on, a jeep is a jeep and there’s no substitute. I can understand why you’d want it. But, I’d personally go with a manual if possible because Chrysler is known for their horrible transmissions.

    • @samanthacallaway2276
      @samanthacallaway2276 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Lunamaria new wranglers have a host of issues, from electrical to transmissions. Heck TFL posted a video of their rubicon’s battery system needing to replaced while they were filming. The Toyotas will take you anywhere, just get a new 4runner or import a new 70 series landcrusier from Australia- it’ll still be cheaper than the wrangler even then.

    It's interesting because there is a video game call the rigs of rods that is a Sandbox version of this. The only difference is the control systems. Funny enough FCA actually uses a version of that sandbox system for this simulator. It's all open source and it's very in depth.

    That machine cannot properly test 10yrs of wear and tear. Ignoring weather,heat,cold salt etc. The materials in the Jeep are all brand new and don't have 10yrs of time of deteriorating those materials. I think it's a good test for general testing or short/mid term but for long term I don't think would be truly be anything worthwhile.

    I would say both on the whole simulator because one you can feel and see how it reacts to your driving style and see from everyone's driving style and you can't really damage the vehicle because it is a simulator which would make it the best gaming rig and engineers can see how their work effects every single vehicles and outcome
