Even to this day, fourth gen LT/LS CAMAROS and TA's are most respected, most intimidating and most rivaled cars bar none. 22 years of old LT1 technology still beating up on 2016 5.0's and and hemi's. That's embarrassing.
Gotta love those old lt1's. I have one in my 96 trans am and it is mildly built. All motor, heads, cam, intake, long tubes and full exhaust. it is a solid mid 11 second car! Tires and suspension help these things move. All this for less than 10k, car and all
The 2nd generation LT1 in all honesty don't take very many modifications to plant more HP and TQ from stock... I upgraded the throttle body.. heads..headers and the rear diff and clutch ... And I've managed to shave off weight.. and I tell yall my Trans Am has managed to put its foot in some high performance European ass! And some TRD weed whackers..
Sounds like you've been getting your ass handed to you by those "stupid mustangs" haha and you'll probably have a chance beating 2 valves but prolly lose to s 3v and definitely losing to a coyote car. All thst work to see a mustangs tail lights
dude! what kind of intake, headers well gears you used 373 with a 6 speed already in your car. but what bout the intake and headers? what kind did he put in his camaro? thanks
That’s me driving and that’s my old lt1 it had a cold air intake from lingenfelter with a 1le intake elbow some long tube headers with a y pipe dumped before the diff and a short throw shifter with a aftermarket clutch and some drags, sold it a while back to my brother in law he still has it
The LT1 is still one of the best production engines ever produced, they really got short changed, only produced for a short period of time, no ongoing development as GM knew the new engine was coming soon, I bought this 93 new and built this 383 quite a few years ago now, 600 HP 640 TQ, I track day road race it all the time for decades now and this thing will pretty much whip the piss out of anything.
how did you go about intake for 600 HP? I'd love to know, looking for a good intake for my mainly stock 94 Z28. Any tips on easy HP gains let me know! I want to get an LS ECM swap to be able to get it tuned reliably.
They didn’t keep it around because it was NOT a great production engine. Know for fluid leaks and faulty optispark systems. A reason they went to the LS1 which is a much better engine. And guess what? I own an LT1!

Just putting 3.73s, LTs, and 100shot with sticky tires on the LT1 and it will beat alot of modern cars. Lt1 f bodys Definitely hold their own.

@@JohnDoe-xl1ig what’s your thoughts on a LS7? I believe that’s a 427 cubic inch motor. I like that for the torque alone .but would you still prefer a LS3 to LS7?
I’ve had my LT1 Firebird for 20 years and have put SO much money into that problematic LT1 engine! 6 optisparks and numerous fluid leaks. Runs great - when it’s running - and turns heads but WOW what an expensive hobby! Buy the LS1 F-bodies and save yourself a lot of grief.
A lt1 fbody picks up 30rwhp with just long tubes. The record for a bolt on only lt1 fbody last I looked many years ago was a 11.1@118mph. Learn something about racing and you'll see that this race isnt out of the question. The fbody is a decent amount lighter, and isnt all that far off in power. Now add in better launch due to driver and possibly tires and there is no excuse. Just a clear win for the camaro that makes a more than 285hp at the wheels......
When you put it that way, it somewhat makes sense. But that Mustang still should have 80-100 HP on the Camaro (if it's even stock), and above a certain speed, that matters a lot more than power to weight
s550 mustang is pretty heavy, the older lt1/ls1 Camaros are bad news for anyone when they've had some bolt ons. This wasn't a roll race it was a race from a dig, so weight and launch play a big factor. A race from 40-140 would be interesting with these two!
