This was my favorite weapon in Red Orchestra 1&2 back in the day. One thing they had which is (still?) missing here is the barrel change. You can only hurl 1,200 rpm at the enemies for so long until the barrel starts to glow and needs to be swapped. The MG42 featured a pretty innovative quick change barrel to facilitate this. Perhaps the Hell Let Loose devs will add this in.
One reason it's not included - I have read - is mostly for game balance. Being an MG in this game sucks, as you're taking all the flak from the enemy - as was expected IRL. But having to fire in short bursts and change barrels out would render the class even less effective. Plus, each box contains about 100 rounds, too. So you're not firing too much as it is. Usually I am getting my head popped by a Sniper by the time I've even deployed the bipod, lol.

I saw a real video of Omaha beach how it is now. Most of your big bunkers were not machine nests like in the movies and video games. The actual machine guns were little sandbag areas to the flanks of the bunkers and had all the wide views with no roof above the defenders. They were also closer to the water. Theres a really good video about it that some youtube historian guy shot. I didnt realize how close the machine gunners were to the beach. That beach was also ALOT of open ground. Probably 400 meters of sand to crosss before soldiers got to the cliff.
It looks really fun. Wonder if the devs can make it more realistic by changing the amount of players on each side, so the germans were outnumbered, as would have been the case. It would make defending that beach much more interesting
It would make sense only for the point in the beach. This is an Offensive mode, which consists on 5 points one faction has to defend. If the defending faction holds a point for 30 minutes, the game is over, if the attacking faction captures it, the timer resets and the next point becomes available and the previous point gets locked under the attacking team's control. So the numbers advantage would make sense only for the beach point which is the 1st one, but not so much for the remaining 4 points. Actually Omaha and sometimes Utah Beach end in the 1st point because it's kinda hard running through the beach and forcing your way into the point to capture it.
For realistic point it would make sense but for game point its not. The beach is the only hard part of the map after u got secure the first point you just run over to the enemy if there is not enough player on the german side.

@@Briley-gc8wnNo its not 2000. Its not about the fact the barrel is gone, its just overheated. But historically the invasion wasnt a "storm" of never ending boats. They came in waves. Actually it is realistic and your facts are wrong. The artillery ended up firing at all of the beach and what firing positions they could see before they even stormed the beach but the Germans didn't loose a single man during that because they were under cover and also they had planned for beach bombing but there was fog that morning and the bombers ended up missing their targets as far as a mile instead of dropping below the cloud cover they opted not too because of heavy flack. Grow up. The german military was just doing what it was ordered to do by the political elite, just like any other military. They weren't all nazi's. It would be like calling today's U.S. military "democrats" since that is the party in control right now.
I had a Patient once. He was the sweetest guy truely, you gotta believe me on this. He was so super gentle and caring for everyone in the elderhome. Everyone loved him. He fought there. He got shot through the forearm, bone completely shattered and shot through the nose. He only survived because everyone thought he was dead, lying in a trench completely soaked in blood. At that time He was 16. A kid. He wanted to become a engeneer. He spend the whole next year in the hospital, lucky to be alive. It was the end of the war. The troops were heavily strained and the command send everyone able holding a rifle to the front. Children. Who had no political oppinion and also no choice. Many had no future.
What crack have you been smoking? D-Day was successful before it even happened. Complete Air Superiority. Both numerical and material supremacy. The German Command was an absolute shambles. It was confused as to where and when it would happen due to skillful tact on the Allied part. Poor weather hindered the landings by 24 hours, which actually played into their hand. Omaha suffered the worst casualties out of any of the Beaches, the reality was the numbers weren't all that high when compared to numbers of bodies that made it ashore across the whole line that day. Most of the main objectives were met by all Divisions, bar a few where resistance was stiff or obj's that were probably an over-stretch by Allied Command. In a sense, it was lucky that the American Paras were scattered as it helped them to work in ad-hoc units to harass and contain German rear-areas and to also confuse the Germans as to what the hell was even going on. The British flank, however, managed to practically land right on its objectives and destroyed the Germans there. If you're thinking that the Germans had it easy because "Sitting behind a wall with MG's" was going to win them a war, you are gravely mistaken. Those MG's soon run out of ammo - and did. Heavy bombing from all calibers of guns soon silenced their positions. Many positions were either destroyed, over-run or simply gave up. Once any part of that wall is breached, it's only a matter of time for the rest of that Defensive line before it's game over. Most Troops holing the Beach Garrisons were Ost-Truppen or low-grade German Troops. The beefier German units were held further inland to Counter-Attack - which was also hindered by Air Superiority. Harassment's from French Resistance and again, poor German Leadership structures. I read that some SS unit was all but wiped out by the end of the month with no reinforcements promised because Germany couldn't supply the manpower or material. The Allies absolutely dominated this and with good reason, too. Sicily and Italy were testing grounds for them to perfect what was going to happen in France. It was already over for Germany then. It was just a matter of time really. This is why some of their top Generals turned on Hitler and tried to assassinate him. They knew it was over, they wanted to try and preserve what was left of Germany at that point.

I actually had to look that up 200 sounded way too often, but I suppose with that massively high fire-rate it makes sense. That's allot of downtime, 200 rounds would zip right by in a MG-42.
@@mikejohnson555no way it’s 200 prob more every 2,000
@@Briley-gc8wnNo its not 2000. Its not about the fact the barrel is gone, its just overheated. But historically the invasion wasnt a "storm" of never ending boats. They came in waves. There was quite some downtime between the attacks. From the start of the attack at Omaha to the actual "gave up" of WN62 it took almost 7 hours. So one MG42 there shot around 10000-12000 rounds with two barrels. Which were gun after that, but they held.

By far the worst map, imo. Especially if you're on the side that's dropping from the boats. xD

Not realistic considering most the germans guns weren't facing the beach on Omaha. Most the weapons were facing up and down the beach. If the guns were facing the beach the navy could of simply zeroed in on their position with artillery and air assets.
Can you explain the difference between facing the beach and facing down the beach?
@@Omer-di1bl What he meant was that the positions always had their field of fire along the beach and not at a 90 degree angle to the shore. But I don't understand his explanation. The real explanation for this is that this means you are hitting something or providing suppressive fire with almost every shot. At a 90 degree angle most shots go into the water...
It's a game
Actually it is realistic and your facts are wrong. The artillery ended up firing at all of the beach and what firing positions they could see before they even stormed the beach but the Germans didn't loose a single man during that because they were under cover and also they had planned for beach bombing but there was fog that morning and the bombers ended up missing their targets as far as a mile instead of dropping below the cloud cover they opted not too because of heavy flack. Once they started storming the beaches the ships were ordered to stop fire against positions but one ship did disobay orders and almost ran aground to help support the infantry and bomb enemy fortified positions the uss O'Brian saved 1000 lives because they disobeyed orders get your facts strait

I know it's a videogame but I don't think I could play this from the German perspective. It hurts my soul.
Bruh
Keep in mind that the Germans actually lost on D-Day.
@JohnnyRico118 yeah, I know. But not before a lot of troops were mowed down on those beaches.
This for me is a very dull experience with this map. The gameplay seems to grey in multiple areas.

well its ABSOLUTELY atelast ENOUGH close to realism.
In all reality D Day was 100% luck that it was successful
