This is a great conversation. Thank you guys. I got my first well made bible from a discount shelf at my local Mardel’s. I bought a Cambridge wide margin concord, still in the classic book shelf box. No one wanted this gem, and I bought it for $9.75. Since then, I have a church bible, an Oxford USA Scofield, large print. My latest friend is a Cambridge concord I won ( blessed by Pastor Brett). I’m not KJV only, I have numerous calfskin Thompson chain bibles. But, the surprising thing is many of these gems can be had on sale for silly low prices if you’re patient. I got my Bible collection bug by my Dad. He has a Geneva bible that came on the Mayflower by a direct descendent of my Dad’s family.
What a wonderful video. Thank you so much. I love the one with the blue silk and calfskin pockets. They should reintroduce these pockets now. 😊. I also did not know that the art gilt in those days was real gold. Thank you again so much. 🙏💕
Love this! History and bibles are some of my favorite subjects and this was great. I have a couple ‘older’ bibles and always wonder what their stories are. Looking forward to more conversations!
Ive seen several other comments but wanted to chime in as well. Reproductions of these from a premium manufacture would be incredible! Alan or even CBP could definitely pull it off.
I have this same Bible {Oxford Teachers}. It is a great tool, but the text is too small. Royal Ruby text is always hard to read for me. I do not have that nice pocket in front, but the full yapp is great. Thanks for the video. God's best to you both, in Jesus name.
I love the old Bibles. I am wondering about the smell. I often find that old books don’t agree with me and my allergies. Can you “freshen up” an old book such as these?
I handle them a lot. The oils from your hands keep the leather conditioned. When I acquired them I conditioned them with Pecard Antique Leather Dressing. Then handle them regularly after that.
I have the pronouncing edition of the complete concordance Bible, created by the united states centennial commission. It's inlaid in gold throughout the entire book. All of the drawings in it are inlaid in gold too. It's truly a beautiful work of art. It's from the 1870s. And I'm trying to find a buyer. Current value is around $7000-10,000. Each picture from within the book can easily be sold for $200 each, because of the gold inlays and because of the artist work is just amazing, however to destroy that book like that for money is just dumb, so I'm trying to sell it to a collector who will care for it properly. If interested in it, let me know I can email you lots and lots of photos and you can come see it or whatever. Thank you for sharing this information with everyone!
Yes, "May-nerd" is how is was pronounced where I grew up as well. The proper pronunciation is exactly how Beau said it, "May-Nard". That is the Queen's English way to say it and that is how I now pronounce it as well.
As someone who thoroughly seeks out very old, historical items, it's frustrating these men don't know the definition differences between vintage and antique. Antique is 100+ years. Vintage is younger than 100 years. These are antique bibles, not vintage. It's small facts, but all knowledge should be properly taught.
@@crystalpitzer37 I do understand the difference. I appreciate the feedback. I generally use the word vintage because it is what most people say when referring to old bibles - I usually don't correct them and just roll with it. When I am talking with a book dealer I use the word antique.
WAO, WAO, WAO! Amazing! Thank you for sharing!
I could listen to Shawn talk about vintage Bibles for hours. Would love to see more content like this I’m looking forward to the other videos.

I absolutely love older bibles , what a great guest and collection.
Cool bible geek vid.
All kinds of coolness! Thank you so much for this video :)
That second Baxter Bible is unbelievably great! The art gilt and gilt is so bold! Thanks for this video
Beautiful vintage bibles.
I love learning the History of our Bibles!
Thanks Beau and Shawn! I look forward to the next video!
I’m reading through the D.L. Moody collection right now. Seeing those vintage Baxter Moody bibles is a real treat! Thanks for the video!

Alright! Back with a new video of a great topic and it did not disappoint! Thanks.
Thanks for another great video. I love the old Bibles.
Those vintage bibles. True treasures.
Just awesome gentlemen. Thanks for showing them !
I do love that one with the pockets. That should come back.

As a history-buff, I loved this. I can't wait for the other videos to be up!!
Excellent video, very interesting and informative. Thank you gentlemen. Very much looking forward to seeing more of these videos.
They definitely don't make them like they used to... (but I sure wish they did)
Thanks for sharing these beautiful bibles
I finally got the answer to where the softback leather Bibles we use today came from. Thank you.

Thank you very much, i really enjoyed this episode. God Bless
That was one of the more interesting bible reviews I have ever seen! God bless those publishing pioneers that paved the way for bibles today.
Those were some interesting Bibles. The fact they have held up so well is a testament to the makers.
Awesome that you guys get together and pray! That was so encouraging to hear
This makes me want to recreate a Bible that looks just like one of these older ones. I really liked the row of tooled lines with sharp corners
This was so interesting! I’d love to see more videos about vintage Bibles and Bible history.
I thoroughly enjoyed this. What amazing content. I live in Alabama myself ❤❤❤❤
Now that was an amazing video!!!!
Wow great vinage Bibles
Now that would be awesome to have one of Moody's Bible. I'm a Moody Theological Seminary Graduate.
I fell in love with all this bibles, I was just drooling over them, wish they make them again.
Awesome video Beau! Definitely looking forward to seeing more 🤓
Those are beautiful Bibles. There are several local antique shops that sell vintage Bibles. Now I want to go check em out.
Wow one of your best videos. Love vintage bibles.
@9:25 that’s a beautiful Bible, glad it held up
so awesome!
Ive seen several other comments but wanted to chime in as well. Reproductions of these from a premium manufacture would be incredible! Alan or even CBP could definitely pull it off.
I have a new testament from 1835. I love seeing other old bibles!
Man, this is so cool! Would love to pass down a bible that ends up looking like this in a hundred years or so.
Awesome!
Neat to see how those bibles have held up so well over the years! Hope I win one of your giveaways!
I really enjoyed this video. It is always so interesting to see how Bibles have changed over the years and what trends were during certain eras.
That was really interesting! Thank you

I loved this! Very interesting discussion
Such a great video. I always look for bibles when I go into antique or thrift stores just in case. But I never find any.
Have you heard of the Rare Bible Room at the Museum of Printing in Haverhill, MA? It's amazing
Thanks. Interesting.
Bless you 😃
Interesting!

where can you get bibles like that! The first one is insane. I don't know how much it costs but it must be a pretty penny
I really enjoyed the history of the Bible publishing. Any books written on it?
Looking forward to the discussion on the Horween ESVs!
It would be awesome if a rebinder put thar pocket in.
How should one store an old Bible (1920s Oxford).
It’s so great to hear more stuff about d.l moody for I go to moody bible institute
I wonder how Shawn manages to maintain the conditions of his vintage Bibles. What tools does he use to keep them somehow in good shape?
I handle them a lot. The oils from your hands keep the leather conditioned. When I acquired them I conditioned them with Pecard Antique Leather Dressing. Then handle them regularly after that.
@@shawnmaynard3964 I bought mink oil instead. Will it still have the same benefits as to the one you mentioned? Thanks for responding!
Where do you find them?
Somebody should reproduce this style/format of "study bible".
I have a Lewis Bible from Vermont. That item is no longer made...I got that in 2008. USA 2014.

I grew up around a lot of Maynards and never heard it pronounced May-Nard. They always said "Maynerd". Great video though.

Ugh, one day I’ll get first comment!
Idk how they all could read, study and preach out if that small print?
Older bibles had better text type imho
