    TimS, i had a Tappan top load washer with electric dryer, both were purchased in 1997, they were still with me when I sold my house in 2012. The washer was extra large capacity, the only problem it had was the basket wouldn't index by quarter turns during agitation, sometimes it did. the machine otherwise worked quietly with no noises during spin. Yes the basket and outer tub was PVC, and it was made in Ohio. Oh, it washed clothes very well.

      I have a Frigidaire unified washer & dryer. 24 years old, washing machine is no longer working. Looking for a potable washing machine but right up wasn't good I.e leaking, noisy, unstable, plastic parts.

    I just picked up a frigidaire flse60rgs1 stackable unit for free from the curbside. It's a very clean unit. I figured I'd see what's wrong with it & fix it.

      Judging from the sound of that, it sounds like you wanna be a collector, like me. I've never really cared for these Electrolux built machines like this that have the indexing tub, no tub brake and that stupid lid lock thing they put on the later ones.

  • @Critique808

    I like dual action agitator better than straight vane because the load gets cleaner better. With straight vane, the top clothes mostly float at the top.

    i also had a machine like this double stack or whatever but it was kenmore, lemme tell you it had a hell of a turnover on the clothes but the dryer burned our clothes & so we had to replace it with a frigidaire unimatic with multimatic transmisson.

    I see a lot of people complaining about the indexing tub and the fact that most of it is plastic. But it is not as bad as it looks. I have ran loads from underloaded to overloaded and it worked great on all of them. This washer was well worth the purchase considering how terrible most new washers are, i just wanted clean clothes, and you will get that with this washer.

    • @lizboz
      @lizboz  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Well it may do a decent job of washing clothes, but I still think a cheap used Whirlpool direct drive would've been the best option period. If it works for you though, that's fine.

    • @the30hguy37
      @the30hguy37 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      I agree with you 100% but aren't they hard to find as a stacked unit?

    • @lizboz
      @lizboz  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Actually not really! They still manufacture these direct drives in the stacked units. You can most likely find one at a Home Depot or Lowes, or maybe just one of your local new & used appliance dealers.

  • @MyDan58
    @MyDan58 11 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    the reason being they float at the top, is becuase the basket is spinning as well- should be stationary

    It's because people want to see how effective is a washer before buying. It is a good thing that I bought a dual action top loader. There are too many complaints with front loaders and he washers on you tube. I watched a lot of yt videos about washers before I bought mine.

  • @ericgreen4610

    This washer reminds me of my mother's washer except hers was a White Westinghouse heavy duty extra large capacity washer. It had 9 cycles and a 3 speed combination. Sadly it was replaced for an LG direct drive true balance washer.

    • @lizboz
      @lizboz  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Los únicos filtros de pelusa que hemos tenido en nuestras áreas de lavado son los que están dentro de la tina de la lavadora (lo cual está fuera de discusión porque # 1, es autolimpiante y # 2, no puede acceder a menos que retire la tina interna), y el otro en la puerta de la secadora que simplemente saca y recoge la pelusa para tirar en el cubo de basura. No sé qué más decirte, lo siento.

      El "trampero" sería el filtro de pelusa con una pantalla de malla, que se encuentra en la secadora (dependiendo del tipo de secadora que tenga, se puede ubicar en diferentes lugares). Tendrás que limpiar eso después de cada carga.

      'Back in 1974 , Westinghouse Electric Corp. sold it's appliance line to the White sewing machine company, later called White Consolidated Industries. The indexing tub was a Westinghouse design that was adapted to the Fridgidaire washer in 1979 when General Motors sold Fridgidaire to White Consolidated. Westinghouse used a spiral ramp design agitatror that worked well with the indexing tub.

    the reason why the clothes just float on top is because of the rotating wash tub.. if you hold it in place you would see that the clothes would circulate towards the bottomand wash better... white westinghouse and frigidare produced these lousy types of washers.. the spin speed is decent though

    Why would anyone wash bed spreads or conforters in a conventional top load washing machine? My mother always made a trip to the Laundromat to wash them, this was done every year in the early fall. Drapes, Spreads and Comforters are to heavy for top load washing machines. And im watching some of you load washers, you all need serious lessons on how to load a washer, clothing should have mobility and should move freely.

      liz boz Go onto the Speed Queen.com web-site & take a look at their timer (dial) controlled model. A friend of ours just bought one of those a couple weeks ago & it was under $750.00 for that particular washer.

    • @lizboz
      @lizboz  8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      +Tim S That's just for the washer?? I could probably go to a used market and get a good '90s Whirlpool/Kenmore DD *set* for under $200! My dad paid $165 for a used Kenmore, and guess what, he got a good quality, good working machine. (I have a vid on that machine you can check out on my channel, it's the *80* series from 1994, not the '94 70 series we have now.) Either way, congrats to your friend for getting a new Speed Queen, I do look forward to seeing a vid on that [if possible...]

    • @tims890
      @tims890 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      liz boz Whirlpool/Kenmore (as well as most other brands) started manufacturing their washers plastic (internally) during the 90's. So that's not a reliable brand that will last for 25 years as the Speed Queen washers now do!

    • @lizboz
      @lizboz  8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Here's the thing though, the only internal parts that are plastic on the 1990's, even 2000's direct drives are:
      -Water pump assembly
      -Motor coupling fingers (even so, nowadays couplers have the metal reinforcement in the center)
      -Agitator cam in transmission
      -Agitator assembly (with dogs & dog cam)
      -Outer tub
      -Tub ring
      -Spin gear
      -Only partial of the neutral drain assembly
      -Tub wear pads
      -Brake cam
      The rest, and majority are all made of metal. Some rubber, but that doesn't really matter in this instance. Other outer-inner *plastic* components such as the fill spout and that kind of stuff don't really matter either, as in reliability. The fill spout/spigot can and will crack on any machine over time, unless I don't know if the *new* Speed Queen spouts are metal or not. But I know which parts are and are not metal on a D.D. because I've taken apart D.D.s before and put them back together.
      Either way, compare the list of plastic components on the direct drives above, to how many plastic parts the new belt drive 'space ship' Whirlpool/Kenmore/LG/Samsung/GE/Frigidaire things from another galaxy, are equipped with along with the electronic bells whistles. And tell me which is better between the D.D., and said new belt drives. Speed Queen even nowadays is out on that one because of it's quality overload.
