What even was the point of the movie outside of the loss of the baby? Like everything that happened after the start of the movie was so weird. Shia's character starts drinking again, sleeps with wife her cousin then gets handed money and just leaves forever? Doesn't even go to the court room? None of it made any sense based on how he was acting from the start. The mother of the baby barely said anything.
I haven't seen Ellen Burstyn in far too long. I met her on the set of a film years ago, and she's one of the sweetest, most "real" people you'll ever want to meet. A wonderful soul.
Back in October, my wife and I went through a miscarriage. Watching this was incredibly difficult but I felt like I had to. It was unbelievably accurate and well acted. Shia, incredible as always, and Vanessa did an unreal job. Just want to give props to the writers/director for showing how the father deals with those emotions too, as it can be sometimes overlooked.
Even the most junior internet sleuth wouldn’t need to dig too far to learn the themes of this film and for it to make it into Netflix top 10 attests to the fact that we’re not allowing women to have these conversations and that there is an appetite to understand these stories. I loved this film. It felt like a European movie with its unfettered pathos - the use of red in the color pallet and the apple symbolism were on pointe. Can I just say, that Howard Shore score?! So exquisite! Would have been easy to throw in some melancholic piano jangling but the score was so nuanced and added a great layer to the piece. It felt like a labour (excuse the pun) of love, and it’s all the more poignant as I understand that writer Kata based it on experience. Vanessa Kirby extraordinary dead eyed performance will secure all the gold trophies, if not all the nominations... you really feel the invisible weight she carries in every frame she inhabits... for me it wasn’t the birthing scene that got me, it was in the scenes where there was no dialogue, it’s just the character ruminating: smelling an apple, touching snow on a window ledge. Great movie - probably premature but this will be on my top 10 come year end.
I like what you said about it feeling like a european film! It did. I think it was the rawness of it and the scarce use of music. I feel like silence is so much stronger than music oftentimes, and european independent films use silence a lot more than american ones. So yeah, I also got that european vibe. But frankly, I did think the music was very melancholic, especially all those strings... I wouldn't say the music was one of the best parts of this film in my opinion, but anyway.
I was touched by the story as well the strong performances and roles. Top flic! What a great great performance of all of them. I miss Mr. Labeouf, Shia, his part is also so strong and dark as is the relationsship between the woman and her mother. Top of female manipulation and emotional abuse is certainly when she offered the man, Shia, that boat of cash for him to leave, as she needs that someone who is the punching bag for all the wrongs. I dont agree on Shia beeing expelled from everywhere now, can be he also is some punching bag for those wannabees and also alreadyplayers, since he wasnt born rich. In this way America is so fatatious. I am a fan of hearing both versions, to even get an idea of what really was the case. By the way, not the first time some ex-alcoholic has realtionsship difficulties, why damn him from his craft? So stupid America.
It's an fantastic film and Vanessa was amazing! Gotta say though, the questions here were very basic and predictable. Exactly the kind of questions everybody would ask with a film like this one. Not very creative, to be honest. But whatever.
I couldn’t make it through even two minutes of this film it was just a bunch of self-absorbed people feeling sorry for themselves. I’ve lost a child many people have and I certainly didn’t act like this didn’t have an affair ,snort Coke ,didn’t treat everybody like crap. Stupid ridiculous horrible film. 🤷🏿♀️
Just watched it. Ellen and Vanessa gave great performances. Amazing film and powerful story.
One of the best movies I’ve ever seen! It was brilliant, and the acting superb. Shia LeBoeuf is phenomenal. He disappeared into his character.
and up his own backside unfortunately

The birth scene in this movie even had me contracting.
That’s funny you say that because seeing this drag 👑 pretend to know about childbirth is hilarious.

Both actresses are Gems! They are grace and kindness incarnate. They don't act like hot shots..very humble and sweet women
Massive props to the writer and director of the movie. A groundbreaking movie 👏🏻

These actresses are more talented than the famous ones. Even some unknown ones are very gifted.
I just finished watching Pieces of a Woman. I am really touched.
Great film, amazing performances from Vanessa Kirby and Shia Labeouf.
I'm manifesting many nominations and accolades toward ellen and vanessa!! they delivered standout performances for sure!
literally the most gorgeous and talented actress
GREAT movie! AMAZING actors and a very raw, truthful portrayal of a tragic loss.

"She remember who she was and the game change,"
Amazing film and raw, truthful, powerful performances!
Ellen Burstyn is a gorgeous older woman.
That old lady is going to win the an Oscar.
She is a LEGEND and has a name.
@@sexyndacityable I would have remembered her. Do you remember all the legends that are still alive.
I guess not.

It came out that he abused his girlfriend so he’s been scrubbed from the marketing

Really frustratingly "stock" kind of trailer for a movie I suspect will be so powerfully outside the norm, but I guess that's the business 😖 smh
This movie is sad
sweet!😸
🇲🇭
Grams! From Greta :)
I'd like to think that at the end of the film Shia and Vanessa get back together and have that little girl
No he made me mad cheating on her, taking the money and leaving.
@@sexyndacityable well maybe he comes back
Get woke go broke.
