His music is amazing he’s into his music and that’s good he’s not just about drugs but doing something you enjoy and being into it even when your sober
His enthusiasm for life is contagious. I once met him in NYC in the restaurant where I was working. He came in and had some food at the bar. I grabbed the door for him on the way out, and told him as he passed that his playing had really inspired me as a musician. His smile went from ear to ear. "Thanks man!" he said. I was beyond stoked about it, especially because of how sincere his appreciation was for my admiration of his craft. Seeing them on New Years.
The best part about this video, aside from all the guitar geeky stuff I love, is how much fun he has with everything. When he's demonstrating the Boomerang he just looks like he's having the best time. It's pretty cool that after all these years he still loves making music.
Since Big Cypress I've had a soft spot for Heavy Things. At shows you can hear Trey recording that "once" note and know that Heavy Things is coming up. Always makes me smile.
The Jibboo quote cracked me up- "I used to do that for 15 straight minutes, we don't do that anymore". Kinda wish they would once in awhile. As others have said, you have to love his enthusiasm for making music.
there's a decent amount of info around about Jerry's pedals, but I agree it woulda been nice to have a video of him explaining it all, and the banter that would've gone with it.
+Jacob Dexter LOL funny and true. I remember when he first started using that effect. I was at a show at Penn State...with that effect and the lights together, it felt like we were under water and whales were crying out. I went home and tried to figure out how I could pull off that same effect with what little I had. Loved that show.
I think the first time I heard him do that was on the Story of the Ghost tour. I remember coming back and telling my friends that I thought the 2nd set was haunted.
I've heard some people say they cannot listen to older phish because of this. I agree it can get annoying, but I won't let it stop me from enjoying the earlier stuff
It is so inspiring listening to Trey talk about music. Even that little amazing impromptu riff he created with the looper in video 1, was inspiring due to how effortlessly Trey came up with the musical idea. There's just something about watching a creative genius like Trey that always makes me smile.
My God, my goodness. I took a 20 year break from 1999 to 2019. I cannot believe how absolutely wonderful these rig videos are. Trey and Team you can imagine how absolutely amazing it is that you share this love, the engineering and the magic thank you for eternity.
I love Trey. Literally one of the coolest guys ever. That was fun to watch, having played on many unsatisfying stages. And a few comfortable ones too, it's cool to see how happy Trey is about his set up, gear and crew.
He's the reason I'm such a huge phan! He's honest and beyond truthful. He shares all his ups and his downs. Not afraid to admit his mistakes, and is proud of every one of them. Because, when he screws up once, he does it two more times!!
He's like a kid in a candy shop, even after all these years of using his equipment! He loves em just as much as day one! That's why I love Trey so much! He has so much passion for his craft. It's what drives me to be even better!
Seeing Trey geek out on his pedals is soo beyond cool! The man knows his gear and has a love for his craft that is very obvious which makes it so much better!! Love sober Trey too
I wish this was way longer as well. I love how as amazing as trey is he's just another nerdy guitar player who happens to be one of the greatest guitarist/songwriters ever.
Trey is the man. I got a chance to meat him in 98 at riverport and again Fall tour in Albany 2000. We got to chill and shoot the shit about everything from the tour to cars to up coming projects . He is just a down to earth guy. Thanks for all the great music and great times .
Thanks for sharing---i'm a nerd when it comes to this stuff :-). LOVE the placement of Treys' monitors and his explanation of why he chooses these positions!!
Great quote @ 7:41 "It's crucially important to hear what somebody else is playing and the theory is that if you just listen you'll never run out of ideas."
Thank you Trey for sharing, we will always listen...would love it if you someday made a series talking through how you compose and thinking through chord voicing, phrasing, and such.
Trey is the most fun musician to listen to talk about music... whether it's him teaching, talking about how Phish works (band dynamics), or him talking about gear
god dammit trey you magnificent bastard. i wish i was as passionate as this about anything. just makes me smile to watch him. kid in a candy store right there
'and if you push that button again?' - interviewer " ITS. STILL. THERE!!!!! " - trey " ORRRR!!!!!!! YOU CAN STOP IT. check this shit out that brian built custom for me. " -trey
could les paul have ever imagined that his cutting edge recording techniques from decades past would ever evolve into this vast array of guitar sound and texture ?
I was with em up til Round Room..every album before that is a classic..one of the best bands ever..I'm surprised no one mentions Trey as an influence, he's a master of tone and improv, while still writing some of the best solos and riffs of all time
I don't care what genre of music you're into. I know everybody in the Guitar World wants to play with Trey's rig. That's the truth. It's like a mythical toy store setup.
Ghost 10/31/1998 !!! Super Loopy Intro. I really miss the Space and loops from the OxyTrey years. The Ambient Jams of 1998 were legendary. UIC 11/7/98 AC/DC Bag!!
i wish this was like...2 hours longer.
Trey geeking out HARD. The best part is the joy the sound brings him.
YESSSS!!!
His music is amazing he’s into his music and that’s good he’s not just about drugs but doing something you enjoy and being into it even when your sober
@Rage Theatre2020 check out the Trey Anastasio Band, you won't regret it.

you still remember the new years gig?
That rug really pulls the whole rig together
+Matt Burke word.
+Matt Burke It's the secret sauce for his rig
+Matt Burke the rig rug
You're outta your element Donny!!!
The Dude abides.
Trey is like Willy Wonka bringing people briefly behind the scenes into his world. His childlike joy for playing is contagious
Only Trey would, during a demonstration of his rig, perform an entire digital-delay loop jam. EPIC.
When he uses the looper he starts playing some shit that you’d hear walking around Epcot 😂
It sounds like something out of fantastic mr Fox.
I could listen to Trey discuss guitar and the inner-band dynamics all day! Great stuff.
+Taylor D in the mind of a genius. I feel the same!
Taylor D trey is a guitar god id prefer him over john mayer with dead and company
@@bigjeff7877 All day long!! That's not even a close one!

+projmersch Just listen to some 2010 summer tour, and you will get your fill of it. Just another phase of Phisdom.
I miss those days too… 1997-2000…the same steady cow funk
Trey shows off his rig, and gives us an impromptu DDL jam? THIS is why I love Phish.
Trey is such a nut! I love that guy. He's so honest in he's music
This is so incredible. Every artist should do this. All I could think was "if only Jerry Garcia could have done this too!"
there's a decent amount of info around about Jerry's pedals, but I agree it woulda been nice to have a video of him explaining it all, and the banter that would've gone with it.
I cracked up when he demonstrated heavy things
I love how he is still so inspired and excited about the sounds he can get and how creative he is.
"I used to do that for 15 minutes. We don't do that anymore."
Yup

Never get tired of watching these vids. Wish they had done this 20 year's ago.
I love the cut away to them playing in the storage box with all the effects. They definitely burned one before that jam haha
I wish he had more videos like this, I just learned a lot. Knowing what to listen for is so huge
Wow. This make me appreciate their art even more. Love this band!
Some people just make the world a better place.
Trey - I love you, dude. Your enthusiasm is infectious. I come back to this all the time. Phish is such a positive influence in my life.
He reminds me of Adam Savage from Mythbusters
+Sacha Trey is a nerd. A very talented one.
Adam Savage does more drugs
THAT'S who it is.
@@mikecantreed lol ya but Trey can still drink him under the table lol

Trey radiates his love and joy of music, and it just fills me with joy.
He's giddy, freaking awesome!!! Love ya Trey, thank you for cleaning up and playing with your phriends again
I am SO inspired right now. Doesn't get much better than this.
This stuff never gets old. The artistic nature of blending the "colors" of sound 👌
This was enlightening, so much to be learned here in this piece! Beautiful
the amount of joy the music brings him is so special
This was a real treat! What a window into what it’s like in the Trey zone onstage!
This is so amazing to see. I love messing around with my loop pedal, it’s cool seeing Trey having fun with it.
Seeing Trey geek out on his pedals is soo beyond cool! The man knows his gear and has a love for his craft that is very obvious which makes it so much better!! Love sober Trey too
It's hard not to smile watching this man explain his gear, u can see his genuine love for playing
Seeing Trey's genuine enthusiasm reminds me in the best way about why I love Phish. What a happy dude.
The joy this guy gets out of just picking up an instrument is enviable. I could only hope to enjoy the little things this much.
Awesome! Thanks so much for sharing this, guys! As an aspiring guitarist and diehard "phan", this was one of the best videos I've seen.
