    Then follow the pattern below, then braid.
    1 --- 5 main, 1 accent, 10 main, 1 accent, 8 main, 2 accent, 5 main, 2 accent, 3 main, 3 accent
    2 --- 1 accent, 6 main, 1 accent, 10 main, 1 accent, 9 main, 2 accent, 4 main, 1 accent, 3 main, 1 accent, 1 main
    3 --- 14 main, 1 accent, 6 main, 1 accent, 4 main, 1 accent, 4 main, 1 accent, 3 main, 1 accent, 1 main, 1 accent, 2 main
    4 --- 10 main, 1 accent, 7 main, 1 accent, 20 main, 1 accent
    5 --- 4 main, 1 accent, 7 main, 1 accent, 7 main, 1 accent, 3 main, 1 accent, 2 main, 1 accent, 1 main, 1 accent, 4 main, 2 accent, 2 main, 2 accent

    8 --- 14 main, 1 accent, 16 main, 2 accent, 3 main, 1 accent, 1 main, 1 accent, 1 main
    Then String 40 beads of your accent color each on to each of the eight strands. And braid.
    Now for the next section you will add beads in the reverse order of each strand.
    For example: on to strand 1 - 3 accent, 3 main, 2 accent, 5 main, 2 accent, 8 main, 1 accent, 10 main, 1 accent, 5 main. Then continue and reverse the pattern of each individual strand in the same manner, then braid.
    Finally, string 40 beads of your main color each on to each of the eight strands. And braid.

    I don't remember how my grandmother would do it but she made beautiful things like chokers, crosses, roses, and other things. If she looks at something she could make it. She would even crochet with beads. I would do it for a bit but my grandfather would have his fishing poles and I would go fishing instead. I can make some awesome fisherman knots. But she could knit, crochet, tat, and many other things.

    I do a lot of crafts and I wanted to tryout these necklaces. I was having trouble figuring the pattern.My stitches had different size so I made a chain with just the thread and it really helped me. I thought if anyone else was having trouble with the tension it was a good exercise.

    Okay, I have to say: you really surprised me. I've been doing kumihimo for more than a decade now, the kind where you use a wooden marudai and weighted spools and silk thread and so forth, and I initially kind of looked at the title of this with kind of a "Yeah, kumihimo? She may *think* so, but..." I still would say that what you're doing is closer to the handwoven South American patternwork, but that stitch is definitely a simple kumihimo pattern, and the work is lovely. I wouldn't want to try a 16-spool Genshi pattern with beads (I'd lose my mind, it's hard enough with just silk) but your necklaces are beautiful and worth the work. Thank you!

    I love this!! I already had the disc but it says something else on it, but it’s the exact same thing! I had made a bead embroidered pendant and wanted something else to hang it on, besides a chain, to make it look classier! This is absolutely what I was looking for!! I still have to buy the clasps but I have finished my first one and it came out perfect!! • @beadaholique
      @beadaholique  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hey Caroline, welcome to the channel! So we haven't tried this sort of gradated pattern as a bracelet, but what springs to mind is doing it as a wrap bracelet using slightly smaller 10/0 beads. You really want length for this pattern so the gradation can happen slowly and you get a lot of that blended look. Take a look at this video we did for another kumi kit of ours, I think if you apply the pattern to this style of bracelet it'd be lovely: beadaholique.com/products/instructions-for-making-the-beaded-kumihimo-wrap-bracelet-kit

    Why wouldn't you pre-load all beads at the beginning instead of stopping, unwinding, and reloading beads?

    • @beadaholique
      @beadaholique  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi! You could do that but with such a long braid, the cords with all those beads became very heavy and I found the room in the bobbins got over crowded and therefore didn't hold as well. You can try larger bobbins if you would like to load them all up and keep going. The result will be the same, I just found it easier to keep track of where I was with this method. Thanks for watching!

      Some people do sell longer kumihimo pieces like this, and it's worth asking for a fair amount that accounts for the time you put into it, just like other hand crafts such as quilting or knitting. We ask people not to sell the exact patterns we provide with these kits, but we're happy for people to take the techniques they learn here and use them to make their own designs for sale.

    Besides technique, will this look different if you do a beaded crochet rope versus kumihimo?

      I don't think you would be able to tell much of a difference. From the side by side comparisons that I have personally seen, the end results look pretty much the same. It's really a matter of which one do you prefer doing. I hope this helps!

    hello I recently finished the black & rainbow teal necklace and I love it!
    however, I would very much like one that is red & black or red & white.
    how many tubes of each color would I have to buy in order to make the full necklace. I want to know before hand cause I don't want to have to stop and wait to get more beads.
    Thanks!

    • @beadaholique
      @beadaholique  8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      For your "focal color" you will need 2 tubes (possibly 3 depending on your length). For the "main color" you will need 4 tubes (possibly 5 depending on your length). Since the tubes are not the "quantities" we use for the kits, I would err on the side of safety in having more. I know how frustrating it is to get half way done with a project and have to stop because you need to order more.

    • @elisadallomo
      @elisadallomo 7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      When you say "tubes" you're talking about the 8 gram tubes, right? So for the focal color we'd need 16-24 grams and the main color, 32-40 grams..?

  • @mmap09
    @mmap09 8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    I would like to order but the website does not say the size of the beads. Also I would like to know the quantity of each color of beads.

    • @rebeccajns
      @rebeccajns 8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi Prakash, the size seed beads Kat used were Toho 8/0. The project will take 40-45 grams in total. But because beads are measured by weight when u purchase them, it's always a "Rough guesstimate" So, I personally would make sure to have 50 grams for the project. That will give you enough with a few grams left over. U don't wanna run yourself short so you have enough to complete your project.
      So, Basically there's 40 beads per gram (if your using toho brand) and it's an 8 warp project. So u multiple the 40 beads times the 8 strands. That equals 320 beads for the first 6 inches of the project. Then multiple those 320 beads by 5 (because it's a 30 inch necklace & its done in 5 separate intervals. Again, each interval being 6 inches long)..
      If you search on Beadaholique website they have the kits & refill kits for a really good price. I hope this is able to help you. :) If u have any questions, I'm always happy to help. (if I can) lol... :)

    • @beadaholique
      @beadaholique  8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The beads are all 8/0 tohos. By purchasing one of the kits you'll get all the beads and other supplies necessary to complete one necklace at a discounted price.

    I find that if I try to make a long necklace like this it starts out great, but once the braid gets long and heavy the beads start popping out and the braid collapses. Even when I take it apart and redo it that section I have the same problem. Do you have any ideas on how to fix this? Thank you.

    • @beadaholique
      @beadaholique  ปีที่แล้ว

      Oh! How are they popping out? Are they actually somehow falling off or is it that they (and the braid underneath) are bulging out? If you have a photo or can describe it a bit more, I can try to help.

      Finding the right clasps for kumihimo projects can be difficult. Glue-in clasps like these are the only option we've found that work well. We can sell and ship our kumi necklace kits internationally, you can see a list of countries we currently ship to here: www.beadaholique.com/support-center/help-shipping
      If you don't see yours on the list I'd suggest emailing our customer service, it is sometimes possible for us to add countries. If we're not able to ship directly to you some of our customers use a package forwarding company such as www.viabox.com to get a US address that we can ship to.

    Thank you for this. I have a question, though. How do you keep it from stretching out after you've woven it together? Are you using a heavy weight in order to "pull" the braid down? I am finding I get different lengths with different types of cords and weights and am rather lost :)

    • @beadaholique
      @beadaholique  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      For this project we are using Super Lon Nylon thread, size 18 (0.5mm). We recommend pre-stretching the cord just a bit. This can simply be done by wrapping some thread around your index finger and gently pulling the other end with your opposite hand. You should stretch about a foot at a time or so. You can find the S-Lon thread here: beadaholique.com/search?type=product&q=S-Lon

      The strands are not all strung identically. We decided not to show the stringing of each strand because it would have made the video 50 or 60 minutes long but we've included a write-up of the pattern in the video description here on TH-cam. If you click "Show More" beneath the video's text and scroll to the bottom you'll see the stringing pattern.

    When you start can’t you just do 4-14 foot strands and just cut them in half or is it just faster to do 8-7 foot strands?

    • @beadaholique
      @beadaholique  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Cutting strands in half like that is a good method. It can be faster for a lot of people, but that can depend on other things too like their range of motion and how big of a space they have to work in. The thing that effects speed the most is practice really, both methods can be very fast after a few years of crafting.

    Could you do this ombré type pattern but made into a bracelet? Just trying to figure out how you would adjust the pattern? I’m thinking a bracket would roughly be a 1/3 or 1/4 of the necklace? If you have a pattern for that I would love it!

    • @beadaholique
      @beadaholique  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Spinning clockwise or counterclockwise simply depends on personal preference when designing a Kumihimo project. Our particular designs go clockwise because that is the preference of our designers, but many other designers do have a preference for working counterclockwise. Thanks again!

    Hi, I just started today with this bracelet but I can do it wright😢...my thread keeps showing threw.! What am I doing wrong? I use 8/0 and same cord but the beads don't even touch correctly I did the 1/3th off the bracelet but I can stop because this isn't working *Help* (in bed now for about 6 to 8 hours than I can respond) if needed, thank you Bianca

    • @beadaholique
      @beadaholique  10 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Hi! If your thread is showing, I am guessing it's a tension issue with the cord. Do you have some sort of weight on the bottom of your thread knot? It sounds like perhaps the beads are not sinking down properly or the thread is too loose so it's creating gaps causing the thread to show. I hope some of this helps. If you do have a weight on your threads, how heavy is it (approximately)?

      Our favorite thread for kumihimo is Super-Lon (Or S-Lon as it's often called), which is a twisted nylon thread available in many different colors to make your project. Many of our kumihimo projects use S-Lon size 18 thread with Toho seed beads in size 8/0. do you have to do 40 beads at a time or can you just go ahead and string the whole strand and do this necklace that way?

    • @beadaholique
      @beadaholique  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      The reason to do them 40 at a time is that they don't stay in the bobbins. There are too many beads to wrap in the bobbin.
