This is the next in my series of video short histories of famous gear. "The Fender Deluxe Amplifier, or From Woodie to Silverface and everything in between." As you might have guessed from the channel name I'm particularly interested in smaller amps or pedals but also pieces that have such a long legacy that they are sort of "do it all" items. In that spirit a Deluxe Reverb is a "big amp" in my world. I can't imagine needing more average wattage and headroom than this amp can provide if you're in a mic'd and proper PA setting... but as the saying goes, "You're mileage may vary."
I'd like to specifically thank three custom amp builders for providing me with great info when pulling this together.
Carl Carassco at Carl's Custom Amps. His knowledge of all things "tweed" has been an invaluable resource when pulling these vids together.
    carlscustomamps.com/
David Allen at Allen Amplification. I've leaned on David for his knowledge and excellent parts for about a dozen years now. His knowledge of brownface circuits in particular was a tremendous help here.
    www.allenamps.com/
And Dan Lurie of FYD Amps. Dan has been the source of nearly everything I might know about the inside of an amplifier. He has either built or shepherded me through builds of almost every amp here in my small studio set up (and it weighs on his mind that I still own an amp made by another company. :)
    www.fydamps.com/
I'd like to be clear that I was sponsored in know way by any of these fine gentlemen or their companies. Well, unless kindness to the less informed can be considered sponsorship that is.
Thanks for watching the video and thanks ... for being a part of the
    five watt world.

I inherited a late model Deluxe Reverb Amp; it is now my "go-to" amp for jazz and 60's instrumentals. That clean tone and deep reverb is ear candy!

Perfect. These videos rule. Much "Thanks" Keith!
I've tended to be a Fender fellow all of my songwriting & performing life, occasionally "deferring" to an AC-30 in the studio. It's always amazing to me that so many of the voicings of early blues & rock gear is STILL the definitive tone of much great Rock & Roll...

Thanks for all the information. I believe your videos are the best guitar gear information available today. I would like to add a Princeton or a Deluxe Reverb to my stable and knowing the history just solidifies the desire.

Own an all original ‘76 that was my father’s main amp and used to record the pedal steel on Steely Dan’s “FM”at Criteria Studios in Miami. I think that’s a testament to its incredible tone in itself. Also have a Paul Rivera hand wired ‘83 Deluxe that’s amazing. Both are great but slightly different, to my ears at least the ‘76 has more crystal clear mid punch and the ‘83 has more gritty spank. The only amp I have that is even close is a ‘93 Fender Concert and I’ll put it up against any modern amp made. It’s extremely heavy for a 60wt combo, as heavy as a 100wt Twin, but the tone is worth it, if the room will accommodate the volume. Otherwise, I don’t think you can beat either of the two Deluxe Reverb amps I own, one a silverface and the other a blackface. I have a ‘77 Marshal JCM, Soldano 100wt combo from the mid 90’s that was an artist endorsement of my Dad’s and have had the best offerings from Mesa Boogie, Engle, Dr Z and more and still don’t think any come close. Rick Gesner from Valvetrain amps went through the schematics of the Deluxe’s and the Concert to make improvements to his flagship amp, unfortunately he was only able to make a pedal he uses in front of that amp for demonstrations that could come close.

Howdy Kieth. Well, things are beginning to flower in my first full season a purpose-driven guitarist. The amp is the cornerstone of the sound I'm pursuing. I've seen all the amp histories you have done. I keep coming here. I know only my ears will tell, but I can't thank you enough for giving me a well-informed starting point.

Cheers for this instructive video. I've owned a 1979 Silverface since 1987, with a booster pedal. Not sure it's the best circuit, but it does the trick for me, esp. with pedals, and it is LOUD!

    I’ve owned a ‘65 Black Face since about 1969 & it’s great.
I recently inherited a reissue which is pretty darn good as well.
They’ve always taken a back seat to my Mark I Mesa Boogie which I bought at Prune Music in 1977 which I love to death.
And yes I’m pretty old. 75 in a couple of days.
Love this new to me channel.

As a modern guitar hobbyist I have not had the fortune to play most of the gear you cover in these videos. However, through my Line6 Helix, Amplitube, Guitar Rig5, and other plugins and modelers I do get various attempts at the emulation of that gear. I find these videos helpful to understand what my Helix means when i select a blackface vs. a brownface etc. I hope 5 watt world continues producing this excellent informative content. I find it very interesting and entertaining. Between you, Rick Beato, and Rhet Shull I've learned quite a bit for free. 🔊😁🕪

Love these gear history videos! Carl completely gutted and rebuilt a Champ 600 RI back to the original era specs for me.

I played professionally for about 20 years. Late 70's thru the 90's. Of course I had to have a 100 watt marshal. Found out real fast it was way to loud. Bought a silverface DR brand new and that was my amp for life.

around 2015 Fender released a deluxe reverb head. I own one, using it with a old marshall 4x cab and it´s fantastic! I think there was also one in blonde and as far as i know these were the only deluxe reverb heads fender ever built

    I’ve always loved Fender amps.
My 1st was a Vibro Champ in the late ‘60’s,
But my favorite was my silver face Dual Showman from the mid ‘70’s.
    It has 2 x 12 cabinet that I put EC 12L’s in.
It got any tone that I wanted.
