- In-laws can be the kind who give unwanted advice, stop by unexpectedly and use guilt and manipulation to get what they want. When people speak another language in front of a person who does not, it’s incredible rude and very hurtful. I know, my Mom and Aunt used to do it to hurt me. They did.
I view the person speaking in a foreign language on purpose (when they are also capable of talking in English) as possibly swearing or insulting someone else who doesn't understand it. Very offensive in some circles.

Fair enough if there was a good enough reason not to like her daughter in law but there's not, or if there was a disagreement (it happens) sometimes people dont always get along straight away, you could work it out somehow with good communication, but this is just a case of the mother in law thinks she is better!.& will always look down on her!. The son needs to choose between his wife or money. The choice is sadly not his mother. The Bible says to honor your mother. In this case, I think it might be best to do it at a greater distance. It’s kind of sad that it’s not his mother he loves, but the money. How would that feel, in the end, to know it’s the money, not you, he loves? I think that may be the root of the problem. She may not know it, but she is starved for real love. This situation is of her own doing because she used it as a manipulative tool. My recommendation, never use money as a manipulative tool. Make it a win win.

What a crock! I'm 66! My son in law is one of my best friends and I have a great relationship with my daughters and grandchildren. I travel, have great mates and I'm divorced, have been for 20yrs. Also have a great friendship with my ex s brother and sisters. BTW a spinster is someone who'd never been married! Just because we're older doesn't mean we're awful or out of touch
