    I broke my d string first...
    After that I took the violin to my teacher...
    This was 2 months back...
    Last week when I just had returned home from my classes...
    My E string was out of tune...it sounded like D .... I tried to tune it back to E by using fine tuners...but u can't just tune D to E since it's a whole step through fine tuners...
    I was really scared...
    And my teacher didn't pick up the call ...
    Then I read it somewhere...
    Everything has a first time...if u don't learn it on ur first ...u will learn on ur second attempt...
    I was really scared and then I decided why not it's just a string...
    I successfully tuned it to E from D pitch ...
    Now I don't use fine tuners anymore( E string is an exception )...I can tune all the string by using just pegs(...and I don't break strings anymore......
    My point is....overcome ur fear and try it yourself...u may break some strings..then u can tune it by yourself... ;)

    After snapping the E string, I restrung a new one but it would never tune above D; the pegs would start slipping at C# and D no matter how hard I pushed the peg. Finally, I decided to uncoil it and keep more than 1 cm of string out from the other side and in just little effort it came to E! So thankyou Alison, you were right! The string wasn't pulling enough :)

    Just snapped a string on my violin after watching this. No one is to blame and this video is very helpful. I tell myself is like when learning to ride a bicycle.
    Point is don't get scared to snap a string. I tell myself it's better to snap as many strings and learn how to do it properly than to be scared and keep depending on others for tunning. Snap them strings till you learn😂

    Hello Alison, it’s great to see you back in the old video lesson format. You’ve taught all of us for a long time and listening to you has helped deepen my appreciation and understanding of the violin. As you reiterate, it takes patience in order to string your instrument. Unfortunately I spent an hour working on a new brand of pricey strings last week that never produced a pleasing, full-bodied and mellow sound. It was as though this set of strings refused to stretch and sounded better in the envelopes that I removed them from. Sheer torture so I went back to good, old reliable Dominants with the gold E. Even 7 years later, I’m still in search of the perfect set of strings.

    • @TheOnlineViolinTutor
      @TheOnlineViolinTutor  6 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      It’s not the strings, it’s your violin. If your violin is student quality, there will only be a small incremental effect on the sound with expensive strings. You will only get so much out of them but if the violin is not good, then those strings will be totally wasted.
      It’s why I don’t recommend those higher end strings that I use for students as it’s a waste of money. You will be better off with Dominants it Pirastro Tonica.

      The Online Piano and Violin Tutor Sadly Alison, this is my second handmade violin by my personal luthier (not too cheap, $1000K+).The weather where I live fluctuates between 20% to 90% humidity and even with a humistat and a Dampit, there are problems with most of the strings that I have bought. I will not be defeated, I am more likely to be broke from purchasing all levels of strings. 🤑🎼🎻

    I had ripped a string during my first ever lesson with a violin teacher online. So we had to continue the lesson without that string.
    Luckily she lived nearby so she replaced the string for me.
    To this day I am terrified of ripping a string while tuning. Especially since I didn't know how it happened. I started off self-taught, and the first time I've ever ripped a string was on my first lesson!
    I'll be honest, this stalled my practice since the voilin requires a lot of (stressful) preparations before even beginning to play...

    My violin was so out of tune and it got soooo loose when I used the pegs instead of the screws.Then after how loose it got, I stopped using the pegs. I did fix the loose string and tuned it wrong by accident. My tuners would not show the correct note even when I choose the violin option on the tuner. Even after that, I followed if it was supposed to be a low or high note and I seriously knew the string would break because that had happened before. It would not tune! and it was so badly out of tune that my 2 tuners and the online tuner could not tune it. My problem is it won't tune.
    Do you have any online tuner recommendations?
    I'd appreciate that! ❤️☺️

    Good day. I have an electric violin, the Bridge Aquila if it matters, and I am using an ENO Music tuner. I haven't played in Months, but today I tuned my violin, making sure the tuner's lines are in the middle, but when I place my fingers (first finger at least) on the strings the notes are the same as the open string but higher. Does this mean I have to lower the open string? Hopefully this make sense. Thank you.

      Just put the G back into the tail piece exactly as you would do if you were replacing the strings. So long as nothing has physically broken it will work.
      Make sure the ball end is properly tucked into the tail piece and dont over wind - which you shouldnt have done in the first place if you were going slowly!!😉

    • @TheOnlineViolinTutor
      @TheOnlineViolinTutor  6 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Yes you can. I prefer the D'Addario tuner personally as its small to pop in my case and it doesnt make a sound like an app would. When Im at gigs/weddings/events, I prefer to tune up subtly rather than have a great loud 'A' resounding about the place so I can tune up!
      Just my personal preference though.

      Im possible to answer - how long is a piece of string.
      You may be good enough, but it depends on many many factors. It may take you 1 hour or 10 years to play one song. Impossible for me to say.

      If they are still too low, then they are not as tight as they will go.
      I suspect you have a very cheap violin where the peg box wont move or work properly.
      There is nothing you can do about this except upgrade to a better one im afraid.

    Can someone help me? Today i was tuning my 5 year old violin for the first time in 4 years and i broke a string but i still tried to tune the other strings ( here’s my problem ) whenever i moved the things to tune the strings ( idk how they are called) they wouldn’t stay where i moved them, instead they would go back to where they first where. HELP! :(

    • @TheOnlineViolinTutor
      @TheOnlineViolinTutor  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      You either need to get a better violin (my first choice), have someone set up the peg box for you (not cost effective) or use peg paste, which might work for a time but will never solve the issue.

    • @umbramortis8310
      @umbramortis8310 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      It is normal to hear a popping sound if ur string or violin is new, once u hear the popping that means the pitch changed,u have to keep on tuning it back again so the string would get used to the stretch

    Hi, I'm new here. I'd like to ask you if when I can't have private lessons or go to music school, it means that I won't be able to play the violin well? I'm 16 if this information is important somehow.

    • @TheOnlineViolinTutor
      @TheOnlineViolinTutor  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      If you want to be a professional musician then you should take private lessons. If you just want to play, then no.

    i don't have a tuner :C i also don't have a perfect pitch.......i tried using some tuning app in my phone but i still cant tune.....the tuner in my phone doesn't match with the violin, like i have a feeling that the string is about to break because its super tight...i'm really scared, so i decided to just leave my violin offtune and not play at a moment until i got a violin tuner...and i also leave my violin string not super tight and not super loose but just normal..... :(..uheuheuhe
    atleast i got an idea from this vid...not to tune your violin fast but to tune you violin slowwwllllyyyyy ...yes....THIS VID GIVES ME AN IDEA..thanks to you miss alison :) :D

    You didn't mention anything about how to keep checking the bridge which keeps getting pulled backward, forward, crooked etc. Isn't that one of the most awkward things in tuning?

    • @TheOnlineViolinTutor
      @TheOnlineViolinTutor  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      I have many other videos that go into detail about checking the bridge. This video was a hints and tips video where I gave you just that. They were the main reasons people break strings and are afraid to tune.
      I talk about the bridge in all my other videos where I actually show you how to tune.
